Topic: Guitar Tution sites for people wanting to learn to play

Hi Guys and Gals

Just thought I would post this in a topic so everyone can see it, I hijacked Keiths Interview thread, apologies for that smile

Here is a great free guitar tuition site. www.justinguitar.com

THe website is crammed full of useful lesson from complete beginner, through to more complex ideas, definately essential reading/viewing for a beginning guitarist. Nice forum community on there as well, plenty more info coming from the users in there. I have always been fascinated by the idea of teaching myself the guitar, and have gotten to a certain point myself, but this site gave me that extra nudge to start polishing up my playing. Nice little section in there for people wanting to get into the blues, a good 10 lesson series introducing how to play a blues solo. Only basic, but will allow you to start jamming away to some 12 bar blues

I would wholeheartedly reccomend this site, and any of it products, Justin is a very nice, helpful soul, who has been part of a stones tribute band, played in Katie Melua's band and has been a tutor at the Guitar Institute in London.

For the more advanced player, who would like to study Stevie Ray Vaughan's style more, I can reccomend www.steviesnacks.com
This has premium lesson on there, but all have a 10 minute preview which usually will give you the info regarding a certain technique, and if you want a fuller explanation, with some more tips, you can purchase the rest of the lesson at a nominal cost(4 bucks I think)

Another new and interesting site I have found is www.showmehowtoplay.com
This is a new concept, consisting of a special player which has the whole band split on a 4 way screen. You can choose to learn all parts of the band. They apparently have secured original artist recordsings from their studio sessions to use on there, so you will be able to isolate the guitar parts and really hear what is being played. Reada fascinating article where the writer went on to talk about the guitarist on Bob Marley's exodus. The artist list for now is more tailored to UK pop music. Would love to see Joe on there at some point

Hope some of this is useful for any budding six string slingers out there

Enjoy, hope it helps anyone wanting to get started.

Cheers
Jamie

Tewker
Thank you for the information. I took a quick look just now and I like what I see there. I'll explore more there later this evening.

Last month was my first Joe Bonamassa concert and was so impressed. I'm in my fifties and I'd become so jaded about guitar gods since SRV. But Joe has been the blast of fresh air I've been long looking for. I already had most of his discs, but the cynicism I harbored kept me from truely turning on to this incredible talent. Shame on me.

So I bought myself my first guitar. Once I returned from seeing Joe I was so super buzzed, my best friend convinced me to give it a try. I'd been coaching her to pick up her camera and start photographing clouds that she's always wanted to do. I, on the other hand, held the notion of 'what's the use' in learning to play with such huge talents already dazzeling the world. I would seem retarded in that light. So, what's the use. {I was listening to BonamassaTV earlier to the interview Joe gave to GTM. Joe mentioned that once he'd heard Roy Buchanan play, Joe said he put away his Tele and began to ponder a serious career change. So, it isn't just me.}  I guess I'm saying that it wasn't so much about seeing Joe as much as some encouragement from the woman I love so much that's got me going. Wish me luck.

And, thanks again. And for listening, too.
