Topic: Back Door Slam - Burlington, Vt 8-28-2008

Ok, so I'm a little slow getting to this.  It's been a crazy week.

Last Thursday Back Door Slam put on an unreal show at the Higher Ground in Burlington, Vt.  This is a 3 1/2 hour car ride for me, but what the heck.  My son's girlfriend Krista and I enjoyed these guys so much in July that we decided another road trip was in order [she left for her semester abroad in Italy Saturday so we decided to make this our going away fling big_smile ].  The ride up was great-beautiful scenery combined with LFNIP [and Mountain Time was perfect, though we were going north on 89 and not west on 80].  Since I had to work Thursday we arrived while the opener was on.  This guy - Aram Bedrosian - played a bass on stage all by himself and he was really good.  Kind of reminded me of what Eric is doing these days.  He is from the Burlington, Vt area.

Finally, the reason for this very long drive arrives on stage.  I managed to get up front at the corner of the stage near Adam.  Nice picture spot [except for a stupid digital clock on the wall which I had to photoshop out of all my pictures].

The boys were great!  Close to a 2-hour set.  They even played Stay [which made me cry].  Red House made me giggle thinking about Joe's comments on this song. I love Tear Down the Walls-hope it shows up on their new album. Lots of gremlins out that night-first Davey's amp wasn't working, then Adam's bass was acting up, then Davey had to switch guitars because something was off on his favorite blue F****r.  Didn't hurt their music any though.

Davey seemed really relaxed and enjoying himself.  Made a comment about how strange it felt to be playing a show that they weren't the opener, was also very happy that since his last appearance at Higher Ground he was now 21 and could have a cold one!  He is so great to watch on stage.  I still can't believe these guys are only 21.[One guy even yelled out how can you guys be so young and sound so old!] I've been to a lot of concerts in my life, including Hendrix, SRV and Clapton, and can't help but think that these guys could end up in that same league someday.  I think Govt Mule realized this by inviting them to open for them in October and calling it the "Kinder Revolution Tour."  Goosebump moment.  The age span at this show was unreal - young kids up to very white haired grandparent types and everything in-between and everybody was enjoying themselves to the max.

Nice venue, nice sound, nice lighting, UNBELIEVABLE band.

As Krista said, eight hours in the car, two hours of music, perfect. Gave her some good memories to take to Italy.

P.S.  Cathy and Libby - no tea and cookies this time, but the boys remembered them from July [in a good way].  Got my pictures from July signed and a hug from Davey! cool

Sandy,

Very nice review and wonderful pictures! I especially liked the black and white used on this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24057301@N … 111721981/

Very artsy my dear. And they played "Stay"? Oh my, I can sure understand why that one would bring the tears out. I'm so glad that you took the trip and enjoyed a late summer Slam show. Next to Joe, there's nothing like it.

Thanks so much,

Roy

AMAZING Sandy - how NICE to see and hear about the boys........  smile

I don't have a CLUE what happened to my post - I SWEAR I left one here - days ago - perhaps the same gremlins who were wreaking havoc with the boy's equipment??!!!  Thanks for the email heads up though - made me come back here to look.

Anyway - a VERY nice review indeed, and, as usual OUTSTANDING PHOTOS!!!  The COLOR, in particular, is amazing.  Thank you so much for sharing the whole experience with us.  I just can't WAIT to see them again........

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Thanks Sandy, glad the long trip was worth it, but then you knew it would be. The piccies are fab.
As Davy is 21 now someone should tell him that he's never going to grow into those jeans!

Thank you so much Sandy. You KNOW how tickled I am about the age span of the audience. These "boys" are doing so much for Bluesrock..I can't wait to hear about the show with Joe in Texas. It was nice of Joe to put out the "Live.." CD in time for the long trip. I'm looking forward to seeing them with GM soon.             Cathy
