Topic: Spokane 8/28 and Seattle 8/30

Having partly planned my summer vacation so that I could see Joe while nearly 3,000 miles from home, I was not disappointed at all.  I had the chance to see Joe 2x in 3 days, while surrounded by a lot of Bonavirgins.  Here's a little bit on each show.

SPOKANE 8/28 @ The Knitting Factory
SET LIST:
Spike Driver Blues
Bridge to Better Days
So Many Roads
Mountain Time
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
Highwater Everywhere
Your Funeral My Trial
Blues Deluxe
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid
ENCORE:
One of These Days
Asking Around For You

Great show for Joe's (and my) first visit to Spokane.  Both Joe and the crowd seemed to warm up a bit as the show went on.  By the end of the show, I couldn't get a drink b/c every time I looked for our waitress, she was rocking out by the bar paying attention only to Joe and not her patrons.  Joe looks fantastic.  He's taken off nearly 50lbs since last June.  He said that it has improved his singing.  He's doing a bit of actual jumping on stage which seems new to me.  Of course, Joe was gracious with his time and greeted and signed for everyone waiting, including a young guitar prodigy with the last name Govedare, for whom Gigliotti is making a custom guitar gratis!  Never know who you might meet at a Joe show.  My two Bonavirgin buddies were amazed at what they witnessed and I can now count on them to spread the Bonagospel.

SEATTLE @ THE BUMBERSHOOT FESTIVAL
Same set list minus the encores as time was tightly controlled.  The artist before Joe only had a few people watching, all of whom stayed seated during the performance, with about 5 people up front nearest the stage.  I was hoping Joe would have a better crowd.  I was not disappointed.  The entire audience area was filled with people who did not sit the entire time.  The upfront area, where I was, was packed 5 deep.  Joe gave an incredible show, particularly given how little time they had to get set up, etc.  Joe even performed without his "magic carpet" underneath his feet.  Rick didn't have Buddha on the edge of the keyboard either.  Poor Dave was running around like a maniac trying to keep the proper guiatar at the ready for Joe.  Joe repeatedly jumped up on some speakers at the front corner of the stage to give the people in back a better view.  I take it that most of the crowd was new to Joe, but left as fans.  I was wearing a Joe shirt and no less than 4 people came up to me elsewhere on the festival grounds after Joe's show to tell me how blown away they were.

Now, I have to wait until October when I'll see Joe 4x in 4 states in 5 days.

While I wouldn't consider myself a "Bonavirgin", I am a new fan of Joe's. My wife and I made the 2 hour drive from Clarkston to Spokane for the show. It was well worth it. Without a doubt, the show in Spokane was right up there with the greatest concerts I have seen.

I bought the CD "Live From Nowhere in Particular" and have listened to it almost non-stop since then.

I too got to meet Joe after the show which only added to an already great evening.

Re: Spokane 8/28 and Seattle 8/30

One more note for whatever it's worth:  Joe's Gigliotti seems to have been buried along with Joe's Lucille.

I had never seen the guitar Joe used for Spike Driver Blues.  I'll post some Flicker pix shortly and I'm sure everyone will fill me in.

Lately, I've seen a lot more of this gold-colored Gibson.  Joe seems to have really taken a shine to it.  I wonder why?

Thanks again to Joe and the guys for making a great summer vacation for me.

Rob -

Beautiful pictures.  Isn't it nice to have natural light?  Can't wait to see your next set.  There can never be too many pictures of Joe.

Thanks for sharing.

OOOOPS!!!!  Looks like we missed you ACAINES!!!!  A warm welcome to the Joe Bonamassa Forum, to you AND your wife!!!  We're so happy that you've found Joe and now, that you've found the Forum.  You may want to consider putting a post on an Introductions page, as, generally speaking, more members will see that you've arrived and be able extended their own warm welcomes to you.

Keep playing that CD - get yourself ALL of the rest of them, AND the DVDs and keep posting!!!

And ROB, those are FANTASTIC photos!!!!!  Thanks for sharing!!!  The black and white is my favorite, I think.  Also - that GIANT mosaic mural looks like it made for a beautiful backdrop.

Rob, your piccies are really great. That one of Joe and Bogey put a big smile on my face on this miserably, monsoon-like, Sunday morning!

Thanks a lot........Tripsy smile

Re: Spokane 8/28 and Seattle 8/30

Rob,

Those pictures are great as was your review! Joe's lost 50 pounds? Wow, no wonder he feels better. Actually, Joe's starting to look a little thin to me. I think it's time for him and the band to head over to Melissa and Dean's home where Melissa can cook up a big Italian meal for the guys. Hey, we don't want Joe to waste away, right? wink

Re: Spokane 8/28 and Seattle 8/30

Rob,

The word that kept running through my head, as I looked at this particular series of photos, was BEAUTIFUL....... they are so BEAUTIFUL and VERY EMOTIONAL....... and haunting, many of them......... NOT TYPICAL ...... but the mood - well, I must say that these are some of my favorite photos that I have EVER seen of Joe...... EVER.  Bravo.

I for one am very glad that you decided to vacation so far from home so that we could share in the pleasure of seeing THESE.  I have too many favorites to pick just one...... but even this, the first one, is so lovely.............. tonight my heart and soul are deeply touched by the visual alone.  Thank you Rob.
