Topic: So Who Bought the Most Expensive Beer on Holiday ?

I think we expect to get "fleeced" in some holiday destinations, but what was the highest
price you saw for a beer on holiday ?

We went to Venice last month.

We found a bar called the Blues bar which we went to one evening due to its name and the strat on the wall. We thought we would hear some blues.

No music.
Draught "Beer" was 7 Euro for a glass of 40cl. Not even a pint !!
That's round about £5.50 or $11 !!!!!!

Was it hot ?
Yes. Very.
Did I buy one ?
Yes.
Did I enjoy it ?
Absolutely !!! smile

Oh....BTW. A beautiful city. Well worth the visit. You don't really need to look throught the viewfinder on the camera. Just point it somewhere, press the button and the picture is pretty good.

So, what's the most expensive beer you saw or bought on holiday this year ?

Not on "holiday" but at a concert venue seeing the band Rush for the umpteenth time:

$12 USD for a 24 oz. can of Heineken.   AAAAAAAAARGH!

Re: So Who Bought the Most Expensive Beer on Holiday ?

I was on a fishing trip in northern Ontario (about 250 miles north of the US border) in 1994.
Our first day there it was 98 degrees F, 2nd day it was 104 degrees F.
You could not be on the water after about 10:30AM or before 5PM, it was just too damn hot.
No A/C in our cabins or in the lodge. Needless to say, we drank LOTS of beer. The liquor store in town was charging roughly $30 US for a 12 pack. At the time, you could buy a 12 pack in the states for about $7. Between two of us, we drank about $180 worth of beer in 6 days.
I know this seems like a deal compared to the "single" beer costs people have mentioned, but it was more than 4 times the normal cost, which seems comparable to paying $11 or $12 for a single beer at a bar/tavern. Ouch!

Bill

I feel your pain...Hunting in Newfoundland, Canada we were in a fly-in camp......run out of beer and you have to fly more in. That really gets expensive!!

Most expensive one I bought was here in the city I live in Edinburgh. There are several additional beer tents here near to festival attractions and I bought one before seeing Jon Cleary and the Absolute Gentlemen. Cost me £4.50 - was the weather nice? Not at all, it was torrential rain! Cleary and co were good though, with some good New Orleans sounds.

Re: So Who Bought the Most Expensive Beer on Holiday ?

Friday night at the Joe Cocker/Steve Miller gig I attended beers were $8.00. That's not the most out of line price I've paid, but the proceeds were going to the Concord High baseball team a cross town rival to Ygnacio Valley High where I went. It's the principal that was too expensive. Oh well, my school has owned those guys for years. As far as being on holiday, it's never happened to me, knock on wood, but anybody who's gotten pinched for a DUI on vacation, that would be an expensive beer.

24 oz cans of Molson Canadian were going for $6 at the Joe Show Tuesday evening at Artpark. I think you can get those in convenience stores for $1.19.  But the show was free so the folks who run Artpark need to make their profits somewhere.

If they sold 24 oz. beers for only $6.00 at a venue in Ca. they'd run out before the show ended. Hell, that's like a regular 12 oz. that we pay $7-$9.00 for $3.00.

Re: So Who Bought the Most Expensive Beer on Holiday ?

Just got back from holiday 2008 part two.

Nice in South of France.
Very nice smile

50cl of beer at one restaurant was 9 Euro.
So a new record price for me.

Ouch!  Hopefully pints of ale are still going for 3-4 pounds. I'm overdue for a trip back to the UK.

Less than £3 everywhere I know.
Typically £2.20 to 2.50 a pint.
Even have decent ale at £1.78 in my local !!
