Re: Hurricane Gustav

My heart goes out to the people in New Orleans. Just isn't fair.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

I saw on the news this morning how E.M.T.'s from my town had left to go to New Orleans to be on standby. Worse case scenerio, and it gets hit again, at least this time aide will be immediate. It is very sad to see people who haven't recovered from Katrina go thru this trauma again. I will be watching and hoping for the best!    Cathy

Re: Hurricane Gustav

No doubt!  My thoughts and prayers are with the Big Easy and the whole Gulf Coast.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

Its awful, GB takes it for granted that we never have any disaster, i mean, come on, new orleans has suffered enough havent they?

Re: Hurricane Gustav

Was gonna start a thread about this myself. My good friends in Alabama have a house on Dauphin Island right on the Gulf Coast, just came back from the most amazing time there. Katrina took their last house away, as well as half the island, but fortunately they were in a position to rebuild....last time. I'm really worried about Gustav being even worse!!

My thoughts go out to them, and to all of those in less fortunate positions with much more to lose, especially in New Orleans. This is just horrible news!!

Easy Shredderman, lets not tar everyone with the same brush okay. I for one take nothing for granted, especially when it comes down to the forces of nature.

Yea members of our Red Cross left the other day for the 24 hour drive. Hopefully they are just on stand-by then come home. All you can do is say a prayer (in your own way) and when you think you're having a bad day......

"Is it the new blues mobile or what?"                                                                                                                                                                                                     "Fix the cigarette lighter."

I'll say again what everyone else has said... it just isn't fair.

Re: Hurricane Gustav

This is indeed bad news.  We, here in Florida, are no strangers to hurricanes and bad storms.  Most of us know that every one of them must be taken seriously.  We just went through Tropical Storm Fay and many people lost their homes due to flooding.  It is so sad.  I've been to Biloxi, Mississippi and New Orleans since Katrina.  Nothing left but the foundation on many of the buildings and homes.  People still living in FEMA trailers.  It's very hard to see this stuff first hand.

Although Gustav is not expected to come our way, we are already feeling the winds and rain from the outer bands here in Central Florida.  We're also watchng Hannah out in the Atlantic and hoping for the best.

I hope people will heed the warnings and evacuate if asked to do so and the government at all levels will be ready to step in and help in a timely manner this time.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of these storms.

We can't stop mother nature but isn't it such a huge shame that every nation on earth isn't able to live under a 'one world, one nation' flag and offer a helping hand around the globe whenever it's needed to rebuild shattered lives.....or perhaps I'm just an old hippy.

Removing the one nation one flag reference, which appears to have caused offense, the above sentiment appears perfectly honourable Geoff.  There are also some Governments that have not provided a helping hand to their own people at times such as these.

Like the other contributors I hope there is not too much damage/loss of life. Likewise I think we should also consider countries such as Nepal, India and Burma who have also suffered recently due to heavy floods.

Real pleased to see that things have turned out less destructive than expected so everyone can go home sooner than expected!
