That one is nice, a good ol' cherryburst....

But good gawd man - for me it's not even close to the one I just saw that you have for sale on TGP:

That thing is drop dead mental....I've not played a Cloud 9, maybe it doesn't have the chunk factor?

BTW - here's the before and after shots of my R8 that Dave did:

After: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/s … Refin2.jpg

Anyway - good to see you over here - I'm * velcro-fly * on TGP wink

Hi Steve, that Cloud 9 is cool, but I gotta sell something

I like them a bit, it's really cool have a Les Paul the weight of a strat
very easy on the neck

and that is an awesome job Dave did in those pics
I'm a sucker for Darkburst

Gotta tell ya, I like those inlays....but man.....can't see doin it...yet :-)

Re: How close is a standard reissue Goldtop in tone and playability to...

I read all the postings now and i'm a bit amused what can be done on Les Pauls
to make them more closer to the old ones...or to the JBLP.

My short LP story, 4 years ago I found a CS '57 Goldtop VOS (the slight aged authentic model)
used in music shop and tried it. It was very light and had such a vibe and resonance.
Unplugged it sounds quiet loud. Chambered? No it isn't. Rio-fretboard, unbelievable.
I tried it over an amp and all I could say is WOW! Playability, Craftmanship and the
visual appearing is just amazing. I completely fell in love. No question I bought it.
The only thing I modified was the pickups. The bursties were a tad too thick and mellow sounding and also squealing a bit a higher gain settings. I put a set Staufer 57 PAFs in.
They are slimmer sounding but soo sweet, no squealing. Perfetto!! smile
But apart from this I love this guitar. Never had the wish to modify anything
because it does what it should.

But if I hadn't my goldtop I would certainly go for the JB LP
with no question!!! big_smile

Againsy my r8 I find the jb somehow more mellow but with bite.....love the neck....feels really worn in as if I have owned it for years!!
Went to buy two of these, one for myself and one for a mate and upon opening the boxes in the shop in front of the sales guy one opened with a broken headstock damaged in transit.
Had a r54.....could`nt get on with it.......now the r8......loved this until the Jb.....so keeping both for their differences.
