4 freakin' hours of blues, jazz, rock, funk, and punk rock.....

There were 27 people in the joint when he took the stage, and Jason sez..."We're here to party too...thanks for coming out, now let's have some fun..."

Blew the f**kin' roof off.....for 4 hours.....I'm havin' trouble describin' it.....you had to be there.....

Nicest guy you'd ever wanna meet, too.....as well as the rest of the band, and Mary, the CD lady.....talked with them all, extensively.....before, during breaks, and afterwards.  Just another blues thang.....it's like we're all family.....

Then, to top it off, I was sittin' in Denny's gettin' breakfast after the show when Jason and Mary walked in.  They recognized me, and came over to sit down.....we talked for over an hour.....but, I was sworn to secrecy.....sorry.....

More stories.....as the Summer of Love Tour rolls on.....

(Fletch, no disrespect to Kim Wilson, but you really gotta catch this guy.....)

(Carl, I asked Jason if he knew Crazy Carl from Maryland.....he goes "Big guy, plays guitar?  Yeah, we know Carl...")

Very good! When these guys reach a certain level, it's hard to compare them.

Just a head's up if one is interested, there are a lot of(over 40) complete Jason Ricci & New Blood shows at archive.org

They're there with Jason's blessing, as are all the shows by other artists there.

SRV:  Glad you enjoyed it....it's sort of an acquired taste....he just plays SO much stuff and 4 HOURS???  That's longer than I've seen him play in a while...2 1/2-3 isn't unusual though.  Sean Starski is a great player....doesn't quite have Joe's chops but the more I listen to him the more impressed I am with him...he's sort of a stealth genius....doesn't smash you over the head but it sorta grows on ya.

Me & the GF are probably going to head up to the Johnstown Folk Festival to catch his 2-hour Sunday night set there (for FREE...gas'll be a bit though) because that's the only thing on the schedule that we wouldn't have to basically fly to at this moment.

Definitely check out archive.org and you can stream many of the shows there to listen to before you download.  I'd recommend 5/5/06 at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck, NJ, one of my favorites.  You can search by artist and then sort by date or date added.  If you need some help figuring out how to work the downloads there, drop me a note.  If you don't mind waiting a bit, I can probably mail you a few shows on CD if the downloading stuff is too daunting for ya.

They are really cool guys....always a blast to see 'em, chat with 'em, etc.  They really enjoy what they're doing and it shows, and they appreciate their fans big-time.

If it's an acquired taste Carl, I acquired it in record time!  But I get yer point.....I imagine some people could be a little put off by some of the stuff he plays, or his appearance.  (He had blond hair last night, tipped in pink.....spiked, lookin' like a young Sid Vicious...)  But I kinda understood it.....he goes full-tilt in his music, so why wouldn't he in other thangs as well?

I like yer desciption of Sean Starski.....he's extremely talented.  And I even mentioned to Jason that he'd be lookin' for a new guitar player soon; Sean's too good to not be on his own.  Jason agreed.....

Thanks for the offer of the CDs, but I can muttle through that with me eyes closed!  Only problem I have is where to put the stuff.  I've got an 80 gig Passport external hard drive that's full, and the hard drive on here is startin' to ooze music.  I suppose I could just burn CDs and delete the files, but I tend to end up givin' them away.....

I thought about hittin' Johnstown, put I gotta draw the line somewhere.....Dallas is less than a month away.....

But I'll be lookin' to catch up with them sooner rather than later.....

Re: Jason Ricci & New Blood...

Awesome, even more impressive review considering who you've seen of late (Duarte, Trout, etc.).  I am looking forward to a short (2 hours) set from them this weekend....gas roundtrip, $40, hotel overnight $80, food on the road for 2 days, $200, seeing the amazed looks on people's faces when they hear him play for the first time....priceless :-)

My head is a bad neighborhood.....
