Topic: Johnny Winter Live In The '70s DVD Due Out In October

Blues artist Johnny Winter is a familiar name to anybody that appreciates slash-and-burn guitar, and Winter aficionados seem to be equally split between the musician's 1970s-era blues-n-roots-rock material on Blue Sky Records, and his later houserockin' recordings for the Alligator and Point Blank labels during the 1980s and '90s. Fans of the former will rejoice come October 28th, 2008 when Music Video Distributors release Winter's Live Through The '70s DVD.

Live Through The '70s collects official archival video of a number of classic Winter performances from disparate sources, such as a 1970 appearance on Danish TV and a Royal Albert Hall performance in London that same year. The 111-minute DVD also includes a 1973 broadcast of Winter from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert; a 1974 Winter performance from the Blues Summit in Chicago; a 1974 performance at Musikladen in Bremen, Germany; and a 1979 appearance on Rockpalast in Germany. Among the songs captured on tape are Winter faves like "Johnny B. Goode," "Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo," and "Mean Town Blues."

Johnny Winter's Live Through The '70s features gorgeous 5.1 surround sound, and mixed throughout the various video clips is interview footage of the talented guitarist filmed in 1970 at the Detroit Tubeworks. Live Through The '70s deserves a place next to the television for any Johnny Winter fan, or even for those that appreciate lively and electric blues-rock guitar.

THANK YOU KEITH - as usual, for keeping us updated and well informed.

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

You're welcome Libby. Johnny's just a fraction of what he used to be these days, but he is getting better. And with what he's gone through, and from being through years of a drug induced haze forced upon him by his former manager, it's a miracle he's still around in any shape. But in his prime, Johnny was the baddest, (and definitely the whitest of the white blues guitarists) and had a huge role in bringing blues rock to the masses in the late 60's and early 70's.

Here's Johnny in his prime, with a pre Double Trouble Tommy Shannon on bass and the late Uncle John Turner on drums, live at Montreux 1970 :

I know, I know...... we've been fans for a LONG time....... just didn't get to SEE him in those days........  and 'Mama Talk to Your Daughter' is on one of my favorite CDs....... "Breakin' it Up, Breakin' it Down" with Johnny, Muddy, and James Cotton....... Steve was lucky enough to see James while I was immersed in the bath of Bonamassa in Ohio this past June....... so, the CD has ONE autograph on it, and will soon have two.

NO MATTER what shape Johnny is in, it WILL be great, and it WILL be an honor to hear him, see him, and, hopefully, to meet him.  Can't wait........

Re: Johnny Winter Live In The '70s DVD Due Out In October

Johnny is one of my heroes too. Saw him last year the first time and he still can play!.

As keith said , not the Johnny from the seventies, but who from his age is...............
Look in the mirror!!!!!!

he sits on a chair but his fingers are fast as ever.

That DVD will be great but I have The rockpalast show on DVD from the show I saw as a young man on TV in the middle of the night in 1979 , can still remember it!!!

If you have the chance to see him, do it :he's a true legend!!!!
