Topic: JB LP string gauge and brand?

As a soon to be owner of one of these fine guitars, I'd like to know what strings the guitar is set up for.  I know that the high E is an 11, but I remember reading that Joe uses a heavy  set of strings and the low E is a 52. I can not find a set of strings for an electric guitar with these sizes in it. Usually is 11-48. Does any one know what brand and size the new Les Paul is set up for?

I think Joe uses Dean Markley, they do have 11-52.

Ken, RK's strat came in last week; not a flaw, super nice, and Novak's handwounds beat everything else I have; completely satisfied.

Great to hear Ron, congrats.

I'm loving my RK thinline tele, it may be my best playing guitar along with my pleked R8. It has Budz Purebred pickups on it. They sound good, but they have a bit of a hum that my other tele with Bill Lawrence pickups does not have. I might change them out when Bill's microcoils come out.

Thanks Ken, but I was really looking to find out what the JB LP is set up to have on it.  There is no way to put a  56 string  on a guitar that is set up for a 48 or 49. It would have to be adjusted and set up for the heaver gauge strings.  Any one know what the  JB LP is set up for right out of the box?

Under the specs it says "Vintage .011 strings. Since they went to the trouble of top wrapping the strings like Joe, and Joe was very involved in the design, I'd be surprised if they didn't use his specific string gauge. But you can always call and ask...

setting a guitar up for heavier gauge strings is a rather simple procedure of adjusting the tension on the truss rod.  It takes a second to do, let the guitar sit awhile after adjusting, make any necessary changes and you're good to go.

Danny,  it would seem to me that to go from a 48 to a 52 low E string, you might have to do some work on the nut  also. Not something I want to get into and I don't have the tools for it.  Not a big deal tho, I'll wait until I get my JBLP and see what the string gauge is. I was hoping to find out and order some strings  before I get my guitar, am hoping that is it set up for the 11-52's. I'll know soon as it gets here.

Re: JB LP string gauge and brand?

I'm sure it will be.  They (Gibson) payed attention to every other detail.  Good luck!
