Topic: Crayfish

Anybody seen Robert Cray lately? Another incredible blues guitarist. I guess he's just being a family man. Maybe he's working on some new recordings.
I used to see him do gigs in tiny little bars on the west coast back in my younger days ...it was amazing, he was so good I couldn't understand why he was plying at these little places... seeing him play live, upclose was incredible, unbelievable and unforgetable.
then boom ..I see him on Johnny Carson one night...he made it!
After that I saw him at Universal studios in LA and then the Sacramento Jazz Fest...I still have most of his first releases.
I'd like to see JB and Robert Live sometime, somewhere...trust me it woulkd be "most excellent".

Re: Crayfish

I will be seeing Robert Cray tomorrow night the 20th with Keb' Mo' and the time before that I saw him as Eric Clapton's warm-up and the time before that I saw him as B.B. King's warm-up band.  I've yet to see him as the headliner, but would cherish that.  Joe has complemented Cray's talent many times on the "Cup of Joe". I would love to see them play together.  I was in a record store picking up Joe's new CD today and I also purchased the Robert Cray, Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland...haven't listened yet.

Re: Crayfish

Anglea, I had that album on tape ages ago......must get the CD. It's a great album. Have you bought 'Live From Across The Pond' that young Bob recorded when he opened for EC at the RAH last time around? It's worth the money.

Re: Crayfish

I saw him open for Clapton in April of 06, and he played at Doheny this last May, but those are the only times I've seen him.

Re: Crayfish

Hi Geoff,
I think Across the Pond is great, I think I have a complete collection, except for collaborations.  It was a wonderful show, I sat directly in front of Cray, great setlist, but its never enough...about the third song in he invited Keb' to join him and Keb' did the same.  My hubby thought he'd play Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, great song...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNeKhmsZvTk    Also wished he did Forecast Calls For Pain. Keb's show was great as well, he has such a nice groove going on, great  lyrics and towards the end of the show Keb' jumped off the stage, ran into the audience and came back with a young lady who he invited on stage to dance around the rest of the show.  I wish he did Dangerous Mood, reminds me of Bonnie's Gnawin' On It  tongue  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U37JOVoDIE

Re: Crayfish

Angela,

Showdown is a Blues classic, it won the Grammy for best Blues record in '85. I haven't seen Robert in 3 or 4 years, but the last time I saw him I talked with Kevin Hayes his drummer after the show. I asked why he didn't play any of his older stuff that I love the most and Kevin said he's such a stickler for perfection that he doesn't play much of the early stuff for fear of not gettin' it right. Personally he can play whatever he wants, it all sounds good to me, kinda like JB. Of his entire catalogue Midnight Stroll is my favorite.

Now all I wanna see of you baby, is your backside headed out that door...................Robert Cray/Young Bob

Re: Crayfish

I should have mentioned that this was on the setlist...I Am What I Am...I Am  the Back Door Slam... I was disappointed that there were no ladies shirts for sale, love my shirt from the Twenty tour...

Re: Crayfish

from cray i really like what i've heard.  he really has his own style with the blues.  the only album i have is live from across the pond, and it is very good.  i shiver is my favorite song from him, but i doubt i've heard even 5% of his catalogue.

Re: Crayfish

I've not yet heard Live Across The Pond, but I do like Cray's early albums. His first album Who's Been Taking and Bad Influence are pretty good as is Shame and A Sin.
