That's funny. I saw the interview with 41 year old Dara Torres, who finished 2nd by the same margin (.01 secs) in the 100m freestyle. When they asked what she might have done differently considering the small margin, she said (in jest, of course) "I guess I shouldn't have trimmed my nails yesterday".
All in all, not a bad Olympics for a 41 year old: 3 silvers, if I'm not mistaken, bringing her career totals to 11 medals in 11 chances.

Big congratulations to Michael Phelps. What an amazing achievement, 8 gold medals. Still can't believe how close some of the finishes are.
Also can't believe how well Team GB are doing, third place in the precious metal charts at the moment. Well done to them all.

I coached kids in different sports when my son was growing up...they would always have a draft, and it was a crapshoot at times...us coaches would watch a kid walk, then try to isolate him in different drills...the kids that walked on the balls of their feet almost always were the fastest runners....tonight I watched the super slowmo of the Usain Bolt in his world record performance on The NBC website...the heels of his feet NEVER touched the ground, he's 6 feet 5 inches, unusually tall for a sprinter....I agree, he will destroy Michael Johnsons record...my only thought is a negative downer, I pray that he was clean...yeah I know, but anyone that blows the world record away that easy is suspect...and that makes me sad

That's the beauty of the "Games"..You get to see the heroes from all over the world. I get an extra warm fuzzy when I watch somebody win their country's FIRST medal. In the grand scheme of things, it's monumental for them.

Careful George..A bit of attitude in your statement about the US being shell shocked? Are you being a Euro-snob again? This isn't the first time the Jamaicans have won races. (We'll talk about this later!) AND, Don't even get me started on Michael..it took more than long arms..it took power....

Did anybody check out Kobie?  My son and I sat their with our mouths on the floor not because of his performance, which one comes to expect...but his interview with Collinsworth was unexpected by me.

He speaks several languages and stated quite clearly when Chris asked him (baitingly) "...is that really cool, nowadays to claim pride in America...is it cool to be American in this day and age?..."

Kobie never even blinked!  "IT IS TO ME."  that's what he said.  I said to my #2 "I'll take back half of what I said about him last year."

To see Jim Lefebvre ( ex Los Angeles Dodger and coach) as the manager of the Chinese baseball team looks odd...but the man was asked to help the Chinese learn our game, and to have them compete on the Olympic spotlight has been phenomonal!!....I never thought he had much of a chance in succeeding...it takes decades to develop skills good enough to compete...he really has done what many say is "miraculous"....I feel proud for him!....I want the game I love played world wide...just a few years ago, the Chinese team struggled against high school kids...they now have one victory under their belt...there 1-4 in the games...the US beat them 9-1 yesterday, and the Chinese learned a little about the baseball tradition (covering your teamates backs).....there were 3 ejections, and one player was hit intentionally with a pitch ( I dont care what Lefebvre said, that was intentional )....but hey, it's all part of the machismo, whether it's right or wrong

Hi Jeff,
I didn't see the interview, but I do know that Kobe lived in Italy for awhile and speaks Italian fluently.  He attended a very elite public high school, better than many private schools, 1/2 mile from where I use to work...the real estate in that area is some of the most expensive and exclusive on the east coast and the cars in the high school parking lot...wow...lots of old money, (railroad money) the area is known as "The Main Line" of Philly.  I met a girl he went to the prom with. He's a great talent, he should be proud to be American...my kids think he's abandoned his Philly roots, his dad played for the 76ers... I don't follow the NBA as much as college and I guess his wife proved money can buy you love roll...

Yeah Michael he was incredible!.....my only problem with him was all the clowning around before and after the race...one person came to mind immediately....Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys....after awhile I lost respect for him....I always appreciated the athlete who is the humble sole, just greatfull to god for giving him his time to shine in front of the world....but thats just me....I cant help but root hard against him when he runs the final leg in the relay race...I always respected the athlete who could smile whether they won or lost a race by 20 meters

I've been enjoying watching Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor kicking some butt. Golden Girls again. What's that, like 108 straight matches witout a loss? Talk about dominance!  And the USA softball team is on a roll too. Japan took them into extra innings yesterday but they ultimatly prevailed. They're going for gold in their next game.
