Topic: Joe Cocker/Steve Miller

Sleep Train Pavillion Concord, Ca. 8/15/08. You can leave your hat on cause nobody loves you............like the way I do. Two veterans delivered the goods last night to a packed house. Now I could say I just witnessed the greatest performance ever displayed by two of the finest gentleman you could possibly ever meet, but I think you've all heard enough of that crap. I will say it was an endless string of hit songs and Steve Miller unleashed a few tidbits from his forthcoming CD he recently finished up at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch over in Marin County featuring Sonny Charles. Being in  NorCal again Steve brought out his buddy Al Jardine and closed the show with Help Me Rhonda as they did at the Fillmore last March. I ran into Al as I was chatting with Carmine at the Monterey Blues Festival in June and of course Senor Rojas, who knows everybody in the business, waved Al and his wife through the security gate to get them to their seats easier. Unfortunately for them Joe was already done.

Yeah....Joe Cocker is ace.
We're from the same city in the UK and I saw him perform there.
Awesome.
One of the best gigs I've ever seen. A mega talent on his home turf.

Never seen Steve Miller though.

Re: Joe Cocker/Steve Miller

And fell I did as my new friend Denise likes to dance, but doing it on an inclined lawn after cocktailing can be tricky. We were dancing to Help Me Rhonda at the end of the show and I spun her one too many times and down we went rolling down hill in each others arms. Aside from lookin' like a couple of fools it really wasn't all bad. Everybody was in the same frame of mind as us as well, fun and games man, fun and games.

Re: Joe Cocker/Steve Miller

I saw Joe Cocker/Stever Miller about a month ago in Maryland.  While I loved every minute of Joe Cocker, after seeing Joe play, Stever Miller seemed a little disappointing.  I know it's not a fair comparison as they are different players and play different styles, but I can't help it.  Now everyone I see, I am comparing to Joe.  I guess I've been spoiled.

Later tonight, I'll be seeing Buddy Guy and George Thorogood.  Before hearing Joe, Buddy was my favorite.  However, his live performances, while electrofying, can be annoying as he'll stop in the middle of a song and move on to something else.  Depends on his mood.  I'll let everybody know what I thought after the show.
