Topic: John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Walter Trout and Coco Montoya DVD

British blues legend John Mayall has been leading one version or another of his influential Bluesbreakers band for over 40 years now. The 1980s Bluesbreakers version may well represent the band's best incarnation since Mayall made stars of guitarists Eric Clapton and Peter Green at the dawn of the '60s. Featuring twin guitarists Walter Trout and Coco Montoya, the line-up recorded two albums: 1985's Behind The Iron Curtain, a live recording of a show in Hungary, and 1988's studio effort, Chicago Line.

On September 2, 2008 Music Video Distributors will be releasing Mayall's 'Live At Iowa State University' DVD, the disc capturing a rare 1987 performance by the Bluesbreakers with Trout and Montoya at the forefront. Clocking in at nearly an hour-and-a-half, Live At Iowa State University features nine extended songs, including Mayall's signature cover versions of Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm" and Little Walter's "It Ain't Right" along with time-tested originals like "Rolling With The Blues" and "One Life To Live." With these two fiery guitarists leading the fray, this is a performance DVD that you'll want to witness for yourself.

Re: John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Walter Trout and Coco Montoya DVD

I find it difficult to believe that this DVD is not already available in the US as it's been around in the UK for sometime. I mentioned this performance in my post on an earlier Walter Trout thread at http://www.jbonamassa.com/forum/viewtop … 16&p=2

Here's what I posted.

A couple of items I’ve picked up while browsing car boot sales and second hand music stores are the John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers live CD that was part of the Blues Collection magazine sold in the UK and the DVD of the Bluesbreakers at Iowa University. Both feature Walter in absolutely blistering form (as always) and Coco Montoya, who in the DVD seems to have been relegated to somewhere offstage big_smile I managed to find a new sealed copy of the DVD for £6, a bargain as it’s quoted at £12.99 on the link below.

It's a really historic performance by Walter and well worth getting hold of if you are a big fan of his playing.

Re: John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Walter Trout and Coco Montoya DVD

Caled round to a friends house last night to pick up a Rush DVD that I lent him ages ago. He also handed me my copy of Live at Iowa State University that I lent him 12 months ago. He was raving about Coco Montoya's playing. Have to say I'd forgotten about it as the last time I played it was before I got"introduced" to Joe's music, so I'll be giving it another listen tonight. I remember purchasing it in HMV for £4.99 at a time when I was just looking for cheap DVDs to fill my library!

Thanks for the heads up Keith, and thanks for adding the videos at the bottom of your web page.  There's a couple real beauties in there with Peter Green.....
