Saw that, count me in.  I think it's free to get into the Rib fest but maybe 10 bucks to "sit" in the area to see KWS.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

At last year's Ribfest in Indy, when Joe was playing, I didn't realize you could purchase tickets for the "seated" area until we were AT the park, and actually not even until Joe was almost ready to begin. (Thanks to Kyle and his dad!)   So I go to buy the tix at the counter, and there's some kind of deal like, buy $10 in food tickets and get a free ticket to the inner circle seating!  So my daughter and I ate ribs AND saw Joe, up close and personal....right at the stage...all to the tune of $20.  She's STILL talking about how great that was to be up front.  Except if you recall the thread where the guy who bought "front row seats" ahead of time got pretty peeved at the latecomers (ME!) who JUST bought tickets before Joe started and then stood at the stage.  Um....sorry.  Couldn't sit my butt down in a chair with that empty stage area JUST TO THE LEFT OF JOE just callin to me, even though it was mere MINUTES before Joe's opening notes.

Kenny's at Indy's Ribfest on Saturday, the 30th.  But Ticketmaster has the VIP seating priced at $30.  Think I'll wait til the day of and see if there's another deal at the ticket table!

Hey Darrin, WOW...thanks for the heads up on KWS and Dean thanks for the link to get tickets. I think Tom and I may definitely go.  Are you going to go?  Let me know.  I will see you next Friday night in Youngstown.  Please save Tom and I a spot near the stage.

i paid five bucks and was about 20 feet from the stage.  but i might has well have paid the ten for the extra 15 feet because i ate about ten dollars in food anyway.

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

It looks like he's playing in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Nov. 8 and that's the only Florida date on his schedule. And we can't go. sad
We already have tickets to see the Black Crowes in St. Augustine that night. I'm not complaining, mind you.  I just wish they would come back to Orlando. hmm

Anyway, I'm jealous.  Have fun. wink

That was definitely my intention, until I realized it was a Sunday night.  We've already started school in this silly state of Indiana, and there's NO WAY I could enjoy the show and then make a 5 hr trip back to Indy in ANY shape to be in a classroom that Monday morning!  I'm MUCH too old for all-nighters!   Should be a GREAT gig though, Nic, and I expect a full review from you!

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

I must say that I didnt leave disappointed. The KWSB put on a great show. Havent seen him in a couple of years, but played pretty much all of the old favorites from the first three albums. Only downfall was the ( do i have an idiot magnet on my back or what ) drunk guy that fell into me at least ten times, let alone everyone else, who wanted to fight anyone who told him to straighten up. Finally security led him off after about 45 mins. but by then it was only about 1 minute away from some fisticuffs between another older gentleman whos son was being hassled by the idiot and him. Enough about that. Great to see Tom & Barbara, Jim and Karen, Don and Laura again. Its been what, 9 days now ??? Sorry I didnt get a chance to talk to you Pittsburgh Jeff. I did however get to finally thank the person who turned me onto Joe a few years ago through the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band forum, Lady Oreo. Thanks Jim for summoning her over to me. I wasnt even positive that it was even her. One couldnt have asked for better weather. It is too bad summer is coming to an end. Ive been really diggin' the outdoor venues this season.       Darrin

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

What a show.......what a night in Pittsburgh!!  WOW, last night the KWSB was truly AWESOME!  From the first note Kenny played up on stage to his last, the band plucked, rocked, jammed and bent every bluesy note possible for almost to 2 hours by Heinz football stadium and the Allegheny River.  This was only the second time that I have seen the band play and they certainly did not disappoint in any way.  They were absolutely on FIRE!!!  Kenny puts you right into a trance with his unbelievable guitar playing and Noah's wonderful voice just belts out every single note of their rockin' tunes.  If you ever have an opportunity to see the band go.  Don't think twice about it.  Darrin, I was wondering what all the commotion was going on over by you.  People are so rude.  Darrin, Jim and Karen, Don and Laura and Pittsburgh Jeff great to see you guys.  Don, are you going to post a review??

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Yes it was a terrific show...Kenny Wayne was on fire 4 sure.... Too bad the only way to get an autograph is to join his fan club. (I believe it is a 50.00 yearly cost?) Nice to see all of the regular crazy blues folk too...: )

Kenny Wayne and Noah and the band put on a great show in Indy on Saturday night as well.  I was pleasantly surprised with all the great song choices from the first 3 albums, like Darrin said.  "Never Mind" is a personal favorite of mine and I've never heard that live.  Great, fun setlist!

I didn't bother getting "permission" for a meet and greet, because you're right, Don, you have to be a paying fan club member for that.  I joined the fan club when I was going to the Cleveland HOB show a couple years ago.  The meet and greet was scheduled for about 5 minutes BEFORE the boys were supposed to be onstage.  That $50 got me a 18.5 second "hey, how ya doin?...this is my favorite CD of yours....thanks...." click of my friend's camera.  (ok, not counting the fact that I was a mere CD insert apart from Kenny....hence the personal bubble reference...:P)

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Like y'all said.....it was a great show.....and yes, Donna.....I had a BLAST!!!!  Seems I always do, huh??

Always nice to see familiar faces, and it was great to see Darrin, Barbara & Tom, Don & Laura, and Pittsburgh Jeff.....plus a bunch from Moondog's and the Blues Society.  Blues junkies are just so cool.....

Sorry I missed you Bill, but I'm sure I'll see you at the Gov't Mule/BDS gig in Nov.....

Bummer to hear you had trouble with the sloshed up idiot, Darrin.....I guess the fact that it was a rib fest and not the typical blues fest is why there was a different crowd.  But I'm glad I sprung for the 15 bucks to get in the seated area, because there was no drama in there, whatsoever.....other than my chair breaking (which was a little demoralizing at first, until Karen's chair started to break, too...)  Gotta love a quality Chinese product.....

Just a word about Jill West and Blues Attack.....they're a local band that opened the show, and they were exceptional that night.  It was nice to see local talent get that kind of reaction from the crowd.  Jill West is a sweetheart with a heart of gold, and a soul that just oozes the blues.....

Great to have this outside of Heinz Field, too.....Steeler fans will understand the mood that puts you in, being able to walk through the Great Hall and view so much Steeler history.....plus the weather was absolutely stellar (again.....I swear the Earth's off it's axis...it hasn't rained on a weekend here in at least two months.  That just doesn't happen in Pittsburgh...ever...), and seeing the gorgeous Pittsburgh Skyline across the Allegheny, all lit up and smilin' down on the scene, just kicked a memorable evening up a notch into perfection.....

Before the show started, I happened to see a guy settin' up his drum kit on stage, and I had to do a double-take, and rub my eyes.....it was Chris Layton!  Somebody had said Double Trouble was touring with KWS, but I took it with a grain of salt.....until I saw the Whipper behind the kit.....I was beside myself, runnin' around, tellin' everyone I knew, then tellin' people I didn't know!  Hope I didn't look too idiotic, but to me, that was a HUGE plus!  Unfortunately, Tommy Shannon had dropped off the tour earlier, but seein' Chris Layton playin', with that same perpetual pissed-off look that he always had when playin' with SRV, was something special.....

Now, if I wanted to be catty, and comparative, I could go on and on about how Kenny Wayne doesn't measure up to JB.....that he just isn't as good technically, needs someone else to do his vocals, can't work the crowd like Joe does, too much posturing, yadda, yadda, yadda.  But I ain't gonna do that.....I'm takin' the high road here.....I think.....

Seriously, Kenny Wayne kicked @ss.....effortlessly.  It was the last gig of the tour, and the whole band was extremely loose.....and tight.....seemingly having as much fun as the crowd.  There were times when I saw KWS staring off at the Pittsburgh Skyline and almost becoming mesmerized as he shot off killer riff after killer riff.  Noah Hunt's vocals were right on the mark, even for an old curmudgeon like me that's spoiled by Joe's ability to supplement his world-class guitar playing with his world-class vocals.  (Damn it, I wasn't gonna go there...sorry...)  But there was a point when Kenny Wayne saw my cartoon JB t-shirt and smiled, then laughed when I shouted "Bring it!!!".....

They did just about everything that I was familiar with, plus did killer versions of "Oh Well", and "Come On".  Seeing Chris Layton play "Come On" was nothing short of incredible.....what a great memory that made.....

I must say though, that when I heard about the $50 "cover charge" to have a chance to get an autograph or a hand shake, I found it rather offensive.  And from what I heard, you have to pony up 50 bucks annually to stay in the fan club?  Sorry, but that's just wrong.  It goes against the whole blues culture, as far as I'm concerned.  Kenny Wayne is a great artist, but no better than Joe, Sonny Landreth, Walter Trout, Tab Benoit, Ana Popovic, Chris Duarte, or any of the others that I've met this year who were happy to sign an autograph, or shake my hand.....or talk with me like friends, with nothing fake or rushed.   And they all thanked ME for supporting THEM.  It doesn't take anything away from my appreciation of Kenny Wayne's talent, but it does leave a bit of a bad taste in my mouth as far as his appreciation of his fans.....

That being said, though, it was a spectacular show.....

And Darrin....."Lady Oreo"???  Too bad I didn't know that at the time.....I'da had some fun with that!!

That's an interesting review SRV from an artist (KWS) that I know very little about.
Very strange ot hear of a "cover charge", I've never heard of that before. Hopefully fans voted with their feet and did not pay. We would not want this idea to catch on!

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Glad you enjoyed the evening barring the seat incident. I wish I knew your chair broke, I was about 1 more getting fallen into away from breaking it the rest of the way over someones ugly head. I was starting to worry about you Jim. It took ya awhile to post your take on the show.  I was starting to think that maybe (you have been known to have some pretty wild after show experiences) something went awry that night with your back or an officer of the law, or maybe even snuck off and tied the knot in the land of sin ???? Never know about you my friend !!! Yeah, Lady Oreo. Im gettin' the vibe that it was best you didnt know her handle at the show. I know you too well ol' buddy. Which leads me to ask...IS ANYONE ALIVE OVER AT THE KWSB FORUM ???? There is not one reply to my post about the show yet. Nor is there one to the previous one about the INDY ribfest. I guess that is why I hang out here. As far as the $50.00 fan club thing goes.... If my memory serves me correctly it was Joe that came over to Jim and I at the Boardman show after the soundcheck with his nitro powered remote control monster truck and cars and started talking about different mechanical aspects of them, and then there was the autograph that Joe more than graciously signed for me when he was done having fun with his toys. That to me my friends is truely the definition of PRICELESS !!!

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

Apparently, Duncan, the only people who are "allowed" to meet and greet Kenny Wayne and his band are those that are members of his fan club.....and it costs 50 bucks a year to join.  For what it's worth, I only saw a half dozen or so fans being ushered back stage for an "audience" with KWS.  Maybe I'm makin' too big a deal about it, but it just doesn't sit right with me.  It's possible that it's a management decision, and not Kenny Wayne's, but ultimately, to me anyway, it makes him look bad.  I mean, come on.....it ain't like he's Elvis.....

A rib fest is a BIG barbeque.....with a bunch of different vendors selling their BBQ'd ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, and just about anything else you can cook on an open flame and put BBQ sauce on.  And they take it very seriously.....traveling to festivals all over the country, and competing for cash, trophies, and bragging rights.  I never considered it an American phenomenon, but I guess maybe it is??  I have, however, seen Jamie Oliver do some BBQin' on the Food Network.....as well as Nigella Lawson.  But I can never seem to stay focused on what she's cookin'.....
