Topic: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

I'm just beside myself.....

Those of you that know Moondog's know what I mean.....

A room maybe 50' X 100'.....25% taken up by the stage.....

With Walter Trout.....damn BABY!!!

I sat at the end of the bar, by the door.....just cuz that's my spot.....

But there was a method to my madness.

Aside from easy access to a cigarette.....it was easier to walk up to the Starlite to use the men's room than wadin' through 200 people to get to Moondog's bathroom.....that in itself is cool.....walk 50' to Moondog's other joint to use the facilities.....seriously cool.....

Walter was home.....just havin' fun.....

2 sets, maybe 4 hours.....he kicked @ss.....

But the kicker was the encore.  I had squeezed my way to the back because I had a thang to be signed.....and I ended up next to Walter's amp.....and they tore into Goin' Down.....

And Walter decides to lay his guitar against his amp for feedback.....as close to me as you are to your keyboard.....inches.....

Lookin' me straight in the eye.....and makin' Jimi roll over.....and grinnin' from ear to ear.....

If I could have one wish.....it would be for y'all to experience Moondog's.....

Those that know, undertand.....those that don't, couldn't possibly.....

He opened with "Not Fade Away".....and from there, it was a blur.....

Seriously cool.....

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

SRV,

4 hours, WOW, that's fantastic. Apart from the first time I saw Walter when he was opening for Robert Cray (I was there to see Walter), whenever I've seen him it's always been with at least one support, so no time for a second set. I wish I'd been with you at the Moondog, it sound like no Walter gig I've ever been to. smile Going Down is one of those great tunes that's always good to hear and I bet Walter stormed through it.

I hope he gives such a blistering performance when he visits the UK later in the year, but somehow I doubt it will be as good as the Moondog sounds.

Yours jealously

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

Walter puts on a great show for sure, he is a great song writer, guitar player and entertainer.  We have been to Moondog's twice to see Joe (back in the Pain and Sorrow days), and it is an interesting/different place.

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

Was he tweeking the volume control?....I love that....hmmm seen someone else do that before...now what was his name?...yeah, I know theres been a few...but...anyhow, sounds like my kind of place to hangout...we got a liitle joint here like that, seen Foghat, Trower, Travers and others there....my favorite venues...I got to hit the east coast and find out for myself...can I crash at your crib Jim??...by the way that strat looks tiny with Walter holding it, the first time I saw him play, I told the wife it looked like a kids toy in his hands smile

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

Thanks Jim!! I will testify to the wonders of Moondog's. I love dives!! It's small enough that you can rest assured that all are there for the music. And Walter! I have never seen him when he didn't go all out. Besides being a stellar musician, he's very entertaining..such a great sense of humor!

I'm proud of you Jim. You packed alot of music into a few days and hung tight. We may be old, but we ain't down yet!!   Now, get some sleep!    Sister Cate

Oh Jim.... *sigh*

Great musicians have a language & vocabulary that transcends the usual barriers & touches us on a more primitive , basic & yet complex level....

...I'll always have London in my heart, and in my soul...

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

So SRV...how packed was it on Sunday???  I guess I would have had to be waiting in line by 5.30 again huh?
missed another great show........I need to get more !

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Walter Trout @ Moondog's...

Don, I have no idea how many people were there, but it was twice as many as Ana's show.....a couple hundred, maybe?  I wasn't kiddin' about goin' up to the Starlite to use the men's room.....I was sittin' at the bar by the door, and it took me longer to get from the door to my seat than it did to walk up to the Starlite and back.....

I got there around 5:30, the line was to the parking lot.....not very long, really.  But people just kept comin'.....and they didn't turn anyone away.....

Phil, I had seen Walter last year at the Pittsburgh Blues Festival, so I kinda knew what to expect.....but I NEVER expected 4 hours!!  He just didn't wanna quit!!!  This was one for the books.....

David, I don't know how Ronnie does it, but he has had virtually EVERYONE play there.....he won't say, but he's either got one hell of a connection, or he has some dirt on all the great acts!  I think it's a matter of a band leaving one gig, heading to another, and Moondog's is on the way.....and it's all gravy.  It's like a practice session between gigs.....good for the band, good for Moondog, and great for the fans!!

Shrederoo.....yer welcome here anytime.....we'll hit Moondog's for a show, then drive down and see Cathy at Kclinger's!!

I agree about Walter's strat lookin' like a toy in his paws.....and it's even more noticeable when he playin' it 6" inches away from you!  It was like a freakin' dream come true.....

Swami Cate.....I'm humbled.....yer proud of ME??  This Summer of Love tour is takin' a toll, but I shall persevere.....I'm on a mission.....

I can't wait until you and yer boys come back to town.....Moondog's was made for you!!

Donna.....yer a nut!!
