Topic: Who are your favourite shredders?

Obviously Joe is a blues artist, but he also plays pretty quick, and on Sloe gin, there IS some sweeping.

I don't particularly care for shredders, except for Eric Johnson.

Fair enough, we all have different tastes, but blues is always best, we should all know that.

Re: Who are your favourite shredders?

i don't consider shawn lane or buckethead shredders.  i can't stand people like malmsteen.  i like some vai.  of those extreme style shredders satriani is my favorite.

like how can anyone think this sounds good.  yes it is fast.  it is  soulless robotic crap if you are asking my opinion.

and since you mentioned joe, that is why i love him in a nutshell.  i feel he could easily easily be a shredder.  he has no problem keeping up with them, the thing is he got the blues and knows how to play music that stands the test of time, most shredders don't.

Re: Who are your favourite shredders?

I never liked Shredders up until i saw & met Steve Vai in Glasgow in 2005.  With Steve Vai i find listening to him live, you feel every emotion anger, sadness. happiness etc... and come out of his shows emotionally drained but really enjoyed him.   Joe Satriani dont even get me started on him he's a jinx.  In saying that if it wasnt for Joe Satriani i wouldnt have discovered Joe Bonamassa and seen him live.  I also quite like Paul Gilbert who im going to see in November here in Belfast.

Re: Who are your favourite shredders?

Frank Gambale is about as close to "shredders" as I get.  Other favorites that get placed in this catergory include Eric Johnson and Jimmy Herring.

Re: Who are your favourite shredders?

Hmmm.....interesting question.

In no particular order, and some would argue with the definition....

Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Tony MacAlpine
Paul Gilbert
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Jason Becker/Marty Friedman
Frank Marino
Vinnie Moore
Yngwie (first 4-5 albums....then it all began to sound identical)

There are lots more...if you're into this kind of stuff, check out releases from Shrapnel Records, Mike Varney's label.  I discovered it by reading ads in a guitar magazine in the 80's.  There's a sister company called Blues Bureau International, on which Pat Travers has released a few discs also.  Don't know anything more about BBI than that, but might be worth checking out.  They're out of Novato, CA, I believe.
