Topic: "New" Little Feat on tour

Well, "new" is very relative. I used to be a big LF fan, had all LPs up to Lowell George´s death, bought one or two more, was disappointed, lost them in a way until I bought lately a remastered "Waiting for Columbus". So I didn´t really know if to buy tickets for yesterday´s Nürnberg show. Motivated by good reports of our Dutch forum friends about LF performing in the Bospop(?) festival Eva and I decided to go.
And it was worth each €. Such a full load of good music!! They played mostly the good old songs and they did it in a new and fresh way. Embedded in "Fat man" was a little excursion to Bob Marley´s "Get up Stand up", even "Willin´was re-done in a wonderful more Mexican way.
But the songs served anyway as a base for long improvisations: based on the powerful and dynamic rhythm base of Sam Clayton, Richie Hayward and Kenny Gradney Paul Barrere, Fred Tackett and Bill Payne did long wonderful journeys changing light-featedly from Funk to Blues to Jazz to Latin to Cajun to Reggae to Rock´n´Roll. Before I was not sure at all if I would like the female singer, but Shaun Murphy has got a good voice and did a very good job.So we had a wonderful evening and recommend everyone - especially in England, where they are touring now - to enjoy the "new" Little Feat.

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

I completely agree with you Gunther. George and I saw them in Bospop, as we said before on the forum and it was great.
We already gave a review there and I understand how you feel about the New Feat. It was much better than I expected too.

So you see that the Forum is a great thing!

As you probably read I tried to make a copy from the videotape Rockpalast 1977 with Lowell george  on DVD but still not succesful. I managed to put it on CD, that worked. Will send Eva 2 copies, one for you too if you want .Will last 2 weeks, go on holiday to France with the family tomorrow.

Have a nice day and enjoy the good weather that  is coming.

Thanks a lot, Andre, for helping me make up my mind. Yes, the forum is an excellent place for communicating.
Have nice holidays

You'll be pleased to hear their concert here in Edinburgh (Scotland, not England) is virtually a sell out!

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Excellent news Gunter!! I was very pleasantly surprised too, though we'll have to differ about the lady singer fitting in with the 'Feat sound'.

Feat, Feat, Feat!

Have a great holiday Andre, I'll call you tonight.

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Let me say this first: There was a new Little Feat Fan born yesterday evening! smile

As Dad already mentioned we weren´t sure if we should go in the beginning - but then I remembered Libby, George and Andre talking about them in such a positive way and so we finally bought tickets on the day of the concert. Thank God we did!
It was such a fabulous concert night ...

I didn´t expect anything, because I didn´t know too much about Little Feat before (exept for the songs that you just know without knowing where you know them from...) - and I also knew that the band would have a hard time to impress me, because they had to follow up Joe (whom I had seen just 2 weeks ago). Oh well - it took them about 30 seconds to impress me wink. I loved the Band from the first minute on - I forgot my hurting Feet right away listening to the Feat...!
I wasn´t bored for one single second - I just stood there amazed by their joy in playing music. The crowd wasn´t big (Wednesday night...), but they absolutely loved them too - everybody was clapping and cheering and singing along. I also thought that the femal singer fitted in very good - but as I didn´t know the Feat before I don´t know how they sounded like without her. I thought she was a cool rock-lady! smile
The two things I probably enjoyed most about the Feat was the diversity of musical styles that just poured out of them and their harmony as a big band - everyone is a great musician for him/herself, but no one has to be to the fore, they´re just so good together.
It was a night to remember, really. I´m listeing to nothing but Little Feat today - it´s the perfect "happy mood music" for me!
Here are some of the pictures I took yesterday - the quality is not good, because it was pretty dark and those guys and gals were moving all the time, but here they are smile: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25162871@N … 328389797/
Look out for the dude in the cool shirt lol!

To our big surprise my Dad discovered this morning that he actually HADN`T sold all those Feat LPs that he used to have (he thought he´d sold them all...) - so maybe there´s a Little Feat LP session coming soon wink.

Thanks to Libby, Andre and George ... !

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

You have no idea how happy it makes me that you have 'discovered' the Feat, Eva!!! big_smile I also enjoyed your beautiful pictures, but I have one question - I may be going mad, but I don't think so - the picture of the drummer with the LF caption - that's never Richie Hayward. Who the hell is it then? I saw them not long ago, as you know, and that is NOT Richie. Or, I'm losing it completely.

Shall I post some Feat links for you, or are you trawling youtube yourself?

edit - I had to share this little treasure, that I've never seen before, with you - the Feat doing a John Hiatt song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Th9ww8 … re=related

Gunter, get live from neon park. It is Waiting on Columbus good. No Lowell but a very good live show of the new Feat.

You know we don't talk politics here but your comment on Bill Payne was funny.

Aside from politics, to wear a politician's t-shirt is not very rock n roll, and not very appropriate outside the country in which the candidate is standing!

Little Feat play here tomorrow night

George,

I don´t know which drummer you´re talking about because I didn´t take a picture of the drummer lol! In fact I couldn´t see him well enough from the place I was standing to take a proper photo ... could you post a link of the photo that you´re talking about?!

Thanks a lot for the "little treasure" - I´m absolutely in Feat-Fever!! smile

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I'm SO glad you liked the Feat. They were my #1 band in my youth. It's all about the way they layer their sound. The rhythm grabs you and carries you on a smooth, joyous ride. They are all incredible musicians and after playing together for so many years, they complement each other well. But, I do miss Lowell. That's nothing against the current line up..I'm glad to see them still gaining fans. They deserve it!  Cathy

Just one of 'our' many coinkydinks! big_smile

I couldn't put it better than Cathy has, that's exactly how I felt. It's ok, Eva - I didn't read the small print under the photo where it says 'The opening band'. roll

Some more treats for you, dear Eva! big_smile

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Me loves the Feat, me loves Bonnie and me loves the Dixie Cicken Song smile !
Thanks for that George - might have been the first time I saw the Godess without a guitar in her blessed hands!

Do you guys have a favourite Feat song - or three of them if you can´t decide?!
My list would surely contain "Willin´" and "Dixie Chicken" at the moment - but I haven´t even started to scratch the surface of Feat-world yet...

Don´t think twice, it´s allright. lol

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

Eva.."back in the day"..we only had vinyl records. So, I learned to love the way Feat songs slid right into place!! I will bring you copies of all the Feat that I have. I love too many songs for too many different reasons (like JB)...best to let you take a ride on the Little Feat Train and pick your own. Soon, Cathy

0rdered it from Amazon Marketplace - thanks for recommending. Meanwhile I´ got "Join The Band", excellent CD with a lot of guests like Sonny Landreth, Bob Seger, Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris. It´s still without George but his daughter is singing "Trouble", and singingwise she seems to be a perfect daughter of George.

Re: "New" Little Feat on tour

One more question: Did the Feat ever release an album where "Dixie Chicken" is NOT the first song on the album? lol... just kidding!

I will have to add "Fat man in the bathtub" to my current three favourite songs - but I´m sure that list will change and develop further the more songs I listen to - and I´m still in "Feat Fever"... I feel like there´s a new Feat CD arriving here every day! Dad, how MANY of them did you actually order the morning after the concert?! lol
