Topic: Another UK fan

Hi all,

Been lurking for a while but only just registered.

My name's neil and I do guitar/vox in a three piece in the (UK) deep south.

Like many of you we play a couple of Joe numbers, Bridge To Better Days and So Many Roads ...although not as well as he does!

Hi Neil

Glad you've decided to quit lurking and join this wonderful forum, a warm welcome!  So, where abouts are you from, what's the band's name, what other stuff do you play?  Questions, questions ... but we're all just eager to hear.

Re: Another UK fan

Hi LynB,

I live on Kent/Sussex border in a very rural area....about 12 miles from Hastings.

My band is called Doctor Sin and we play pubs around Hastings/Rye/Ashford/Folkestone etc.

We play Hendrix/Cream/Zep/TheWho/BlackCrowes/Steve Marriott/Rory/Kravitz etc etc.

At our favourite venues we can get away with playing slightly less mainstream stuff....a bit of Govt Mule and even the Groundhogs on occasion.

But many pubs want the more jukeboxy stuff. On the other hand a few months ago at a pub in a very sleepy seaside town a guy came up between sets after we'd played So Many Roads and asked for more Joe! Proof positive that the word is spreading.

To my shame, and frustration, I've yet to see Joe live. Tried to get tickets for Crawley earlier this year but they sold out. Was offered press tickets (I'm a journalist) for Shepherd's Bush but there was a mix-up and they never arrived. Then was due to go to Cornbury but called into work at last moment. I'm beginning to think I'm jinxed.

Re: Another UK fan

Hi Neil, get your tix ordered for Manchester or the NEC, my guess is they will be all standing. Top tip get as close to the middle at the front as you can to see Joe and the boys at work. I GUARANTEE you will be blown away by the experience. You MUST see him live. It's great that live bands are selecting some of Joe's track to play - it's my bet they go down well - anywhere! Welcome to a super friendly forum. Hope to meet up with you at either of those two venues mentioned above, glad you've stopped lurking!

Hi Neil and welcome to the forum.

Good to hear that not only do you enjoy Joe but you play some of his songs too! You keep trying to play that blues rock stuff and you might convert a few more people too.

Hoepfully you will get to see Joe before too long, although Joe's gigs later this year are not too well placed for you. Whenever you do though, it will be worth the wait. Glad you said hello, enjoy the forum. Duncan

Welcome Neil,
I love that setlist! Be sure to check out the gear section, where all of us guitar nerds hang out!

Re: Another UK fan

Hi Neil, from the North of England. Glad you decided to join in and quit lurking. It's great that you're playing some Joe songs in your set, helping to spread the word. Really sorry for you that you haven't made it to a Joe show yet. I've had four helpings of the best live music ever so far this year and two more coming up in November at Manchester and Gateshead. You just can't get too much of this good thing.

Hi Neil ,

Welcome aboard, brother.

I'm a bassman in a band ALSO in the deep south of the UK and we're doing JB as well.

Just polished up So Many Roads this afternoon.

Looks like we'll have to have a little 'JB appreciation' gig sometime.

Or maybe a bunfight at the O.K. tearooms.

Sounds like a good idea. if Joe goes ahead with his gig at the Royal Albert Hall next year (fingers crossed), maybe we should organise a JB tribute night at a (far) smaller venue somwehere nearby in the same week. That way all the "Bonamasses" who have come from far and wide to see Joe at RAH could also come and see you all play. Who knows, maybe Joe would turn up to!?

Re: Another UK fan

Yeah, I think my band would be interested or maybe perhaps someone would like to promote a classic rock / JB/ Blues festival ? Not us though, been there ,done that with prog rock , lost lots of money - although I did get to drive an ex-member of Genesis to the gig.(Another story , another step further off topic.Oh! Lordy ! I'm sure to get busted !)

In fact, we have discussed gigging in Bristol the night before JB plays at the Colston Hall.

My guitarist actually wanted our band to support Joe at Colston Hall, ignoring the fact that we are not in that league,he is still rehearsing us 'till we drop,we don't have the gear for a big venue, or the support and we wouldn't be able to play our four best tracks.Apart from that, great idea.

If the men in white coats come for him , i'll just say "it's ok mate, he's a lead guitarist."

Ha, ha. its always good for aspirations. Like you I think the Bristol gig may come to soon and I'm sure a support band has already been negociated, but a gig the night before could be a good idea. This is his only southern English gig in November, so there's bound to be plenty of fans around. I guess you won't be playing one in Newcastle/Gateshead though!
