I was at that show, it was a ton of fun.
There are a couple of things to notice.

-The gentleman that takes John's black strat behind John in the beginning of the video is Rene Martinez, famed guitar tech of Stevie Ray Vaughan, now of John Mayer.

-Thats David Ryan Harris doing lead vocals.  He plays rhythm guitar in John's band, has some great solo records and also fronted the amazing band The Brand New Immortals.  I wrote an article on BNI and posted it here, if you didn't read it do yourself a favor and check out their album "Tragic Show".

-Also, check out John's rig.  He is using a Dumble head and a Two-Rock John Mayer Signature.

Wow, that's quite the set up. Any idea what guitar he's playing? Looks pretty authentic, I don't know too much about Van Halen though.

I've got to agree with that too, I enjoyed that. Not really listened to much of his stuff to be honest, but that cover was pretty cool. Looked like he was really enjoying himself too.

I know a guitar player tha many of you are fans of who shall remain nameless who once said to me on a tour bus...For a guitar player, John Mayer is a heck of a pop singer.

The guitar is a $30K dollar replica of the original EVH guitar from Van Halen 1.  It is an exact replica, and only 300 were made.

They sell for 30 thousand.

John Mayer has over 200 guitars.  Joe Bonamassa has had over 200 guitars, I am sure Joe has guitars just as valuable too.

Plus, with all that money JM has, why not spend it on guitars?

He is lucky enough to own one of the "Lenny" SRV custom shop guitars.

To put this into perspective, I've seen bands go through $30,000 worth of blow in a week back in the day. So tell me, which is healthier, buying a guitar or deviating ones septum? You be the judge.

i could afford a $30k guitar if I had loads of grammys, advertising deals, gear endorsements, studio appearances and platinum records...like a certain blues guitarist who dabled in a blues sound that was a bit more modern.
