Topic: Sometimes Bad Timing is Good

What rotten timing, having to follow our Scribe Extraordinaire in acknowledging/celebrating this particular numerical milestone in my relationship with this forum. I can’t possibly compete, so I’m not even going to try. Instead, if the (relatively) brief and possibly soppy musings of a middle-aged bald man are not for you, this would be a good point to stop reading.

I joined this board during the most deeply unhappy and miserable time of my life, as regular readers may remember. Not in my wildest dreams could I ever have imagined how my relationship with the Bonamassa message board was to transform my life!  Y’all know the ‘story’, so I’m not going to re-hash it here, except to say that Cathy saved my life from going straight down the tubes, and I would never have come into contact with her if I hadn’t fortuitously ‘discovered’ Joe’s music ,and if Marianne hadn’t pointed me here, and if…..

Everything changed for me after Valentine’s Day, the day I finally had the good sense to accept the hand of friendship that had been on  offer since the day I joined up. The subsequent discovery that that was the very day my dear friend Libby joined the forum simply underlined the utterly ridiculous number of coinkydinks that characterize my entire relationship with this forum in general, and with some of its members in particular.

After being a member here for a while last year, I slowly but steadily  found my surfing habits changing. I started spending less time on various football forums and more time here, at first because I was still ‘learning’ about Joe from so many  knowledgeable people who knew so much more than I did, later for a whole variety of reasons. This trend has continued to such an extent that I now spend more time here than anywhere else on the web. At some point I also ‘discovered’ the wondrous Aladdin’s Cave that is the ‘Other artists’ forum and began to soak up lots of music I had never heard of before – another hugely enjoyable and rewarding learning experience!

Truly, my cup runneth over. Through this forum I have met Cathy, become even more immersed in Joe’s music,  discovered a lot of other great music, made some very dear new friends and discovered that there is life beyond football!  Becoming part of this board has given me the pleasure and privilege of getting to know some exceptionally  good people, some in person (including Joe and the band), some only on the phone, and some with whom I have only emailed.  I have been lucky enough to have established some friendships here that will continue for as long as I live. And that is a really wonderful thing!

In short (get on with it), I can only express my gratitude to Joe for providing this marvelous place, and for being that once- in-a-generation musician who grabbed me by the throat and made me sit up and listen. My sincere thanks also to those to whom I have become close, and to all of you who jointly contribute to making this the most excellent and wonderful music forum on the planet, if not in the entire Alpha Quadrant.

Oh yeah, and thank YOU so much, Universe!

George,
With great pleasure it was my honor to award you with the Bonametal distinction for contributions to the forum. I have one request. May I change the title of your post. I believe Bad Timing is not how you would describe your time here and neither do we.

Oh, Dear George....please consider Jim's request....it's so true.  (And besides, you should know better than to compare yourself with the Libberator!  There IS no match for her! wink ) George, you make me laugh and you know you've made me cry.  Keep it up, elder!   The Universe is on your side!

BonaBah! Sorry George, you had it coming.  Now, as Jim says, no such thing as bad timing.  You are indeed a treasure here and treasured.

Re: Sometimes Bad Timing is Good

Geez George..(she blushes)...I think my best reply would be to tell people a few things about you. The most obvious would be your Publisher/Editor traits. Understandable considering your education and work history. I am grateful to you for teaching me to copy/paste, make paragraphs, e-mail pictures and other cyber skills most 10 year olds know how to do. Thus, the reason for most of my edited posts. (Some times I write run on sentences and one big paragraph just to annoy him..lol..try it some time)....which leads to the second trait...Even George has to admit his "stodgy" past. That's not to say it doesn't rear it's head once in a while, but he's learned how to chill!! Probably the most obvious thing about George is that he really is a NICE man. He has a big heart and a huge enthusiasm for all things Joe, including his Bonabuddys.

So congrats on the journey to become "Bonametal Hammer"..Wield it wisely!!  W4

Re: Sometimes Bad Timing is Good

Congrats Hammer Man, as I like to say it's just a number, just like our age. It's a place like this that keeps our minds occupied in a good way. If you ever come west young man I'll be there with Shred to guide you through the wonders of NorCal, hope it happens sooner than later. It would only be fitting to lead you to Laguna Seca for any type of racing action, now get out there and give us a 1,000 more!!!!

Dear George,

You wear the Bonametal crown well ?  I salute you and am sending you a big hug all the way from Iowa.  I posted a Joe Bonamassa Tribute to Mountain Time under General Topics before I saw "The Main Event" here; so it is with great pleasure to post it again here, for without this great friend cool none of us would be here...............

Re: Sometimes Bad Timing is Good

Timing, my DEAR friend, George, IS EVERYTHING - and YOUR timing is PERFECT!!!  I KNOW this, because if it WASN'T perfect, then NONE of the PERFECT things that HAVE come your way would have happened!!  Am I right??  Of COURSE I am.

I think WHAT this Forum is, and what it brings to people's lives, probably differs greatly for our many members.  Like you, I happen to KNOW of and have happily EXPERIENCED, the MIRACULOUS gifts that continue to show themselves here - EVERY DAY.  Tiny little seeds which begin with simple words and have the POWER to GROW into something LARGER and so much more IMPORTANT.  I'm thrilled that THIS place, and the PEOPLE in it have brought you SO much HAPPINESS and TRUE HEALING.  Amen.

I am so grateful that you were brought to Joe, to our Forum, to Cathy AND INTO many of our LIVES outside the Forum.  Aren't we LUCKY??!!!  Indeed George, YOU are ONE of my happiest gifts from my HAPPY PLACE..... this magical Forum.  I treasure your friendship and am always entertained, informed or MOVED by your posts.  It really is just a big lovefest in our little circle, isn't it??

YOU are an EXTRAORDINARY MAN, George.  I am so THANKFUL and HONORED that you are a part of MY LIFE.  I have MUCH LOVE and ADMIRATION for YOU!!

Congratulations on your FIRST 1,000 posts.  I'll let you go first the next time, if you'd like.

P. S.  Oh, and George - before I forget, my ever-so-CURIOUS-GEORGE, on this auspicious occasion, I've decided to put you out of at least ONE bit of your misery.  Pssssssst......you've got mail.  wink

Re: Sometimes Bad Timing is Good

Congratulations my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like your friend Libby you reached the 1000 very quickly and that says something about this great and wonderful forum.
If it wasn't so you wouldn't be here so often.

I know your past, your story etc. and I'm so happy for you things are going so well  for you now.
What a change since Joe's show in Paradiso last October. It was the first time I 've met you and I must say  for an American ....very o.k.!!
We kept in contact by mail, phone and in person. I hope we  go on this way because you became  a dear friend to me.

See you in September with CATHY. who the #%^&$ is Cathy, George??????

Thanks y'all!

Jim - How about 'Good news and some bad timing'? Or something along those lines, I'm not all that bothered about the title.

Congratiolations for being the first European Bonametal, dear George! smile

As Patty said, you wear the crown well and you have SO deserved all the good things that happened to you through this forum - you and Cathy are like the "proof" for what the magic of this forum can do! I also don´t believe in cowinkydinks anymore - the universe has a plan. smile

I´m so looking for forward to our Trans-Atlantic-Forum-Meeting in September and I hope we all will have enough time for a big TRATSCH together ...
