Re: top other cds

Well I dont just like the blues, so here is my list of favourite albums. Some blues, some other types of music.

The Stone Roses - Second Coming
The Seashorses  Do it yourself
Back Door Slam  Roll Away
The Verve - Urban Hymns
Black Grape - Its great when you straight
Gomez - Bring it on
Fun Lovin Criminals - 100% Columbian
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Black Rebel Motorcylce Club - BRMC
Portishead - Dummy

For blues fans, open to something not really blues but with its roots there, you really should check out The Stone Roses and Seahorses albums I listed, John Squire is up there for me as one of my favourite Guitarists, and you can hear how Jimmy Page influenced him. Another one with a bluesy feel is Gomez. THe others are a mixture of Rock and some more modern forms of music, Massive attack will appeal to a lot of people.

Great Topic, always on the hunt for new listening.

Cheers

Re: top other cds

I'll give you just one.

"Variations On A Dream" by Pineapple Thief 2004

The writer ,singer and player of instruments on this album and engineer is Bruce Soord who is about Joe's age.

http://www.pineapplethief.com/

Footnotes: A bit Indie , a bit progressive. The theme of this album is the death of a close friend of Bruce's. Check out the track 'We Subside.'Bruce is a trained engineer and mixed this in his dining room. When you see the talentless rubbish picked up by the music industry it makes you want to weep for the guys with real talent who still have to do day jobs.

And further 'Off Topic '- A great local band for Colston Hall Bristol November 2008 , hint hint.
They supported Marrilion a year or so ago and went down a storm.

craig erickson-shine
lance lopez-wall of soul
wes jeans- forest of the pine

albert cummings-true to yourself
back door slam-roll away
blindside blues band-keepers of the flame
stoney curtis band-acid blues experience

also craig erickson probably has the best back catalogue of any of this generations blues rock players.  i keep getting more of his albums and they are all brilliant.  why he is so unknown ill never understand.  i mean joe is pretty unknown but has a better following than most blues players now but i don't think erickson has enough of a following after years of putting out a boatload of brilliant original material to justify a us tour.  and that my friends is sad.

Craig Erickson is a fantastic guitarist, one of the best on the scene. A lot of why he's unknown has to do with the label he's on. And in the words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that".
