Topic: Shred Says Review It
Got a call from the ShredMan last night wonderin' why I hadn't posted anything about Lynyrd Skynyrd Sat. night in Clearlake. So to make him happy here goes. As Skynyrd shows go this one was a 10 out of 10. When they play Konocti Harbor in Clearlake, Ca. they never disappoint. I've heard from some of the staff up there that Skynyrd rolls in early and leaves late since most of the band loves the bass fishing up there. Last summer I saw them in Mountain View, Ca. and gave that about a 6 out of 10, it was so mailed in I left early to beat the traffic. After that show I wondered if they were finally burned out, but I guess it's about being in the right place. I know some of the negative Nellies will respond that they're just a tribute band, but that obviously never crossed any of the 5,000+ crowds minds this night. Many rock bands have lost members along the way, but I have to admit nobody keeps their fallin' mates memories alive like Skynyrd does. As luck would have it a fellow Skynyrd fan I met up there a few years back scored his bosses front row season tix and put my buddy Matt and I in the front row. Occasionally during the show I'd turn around and see not just the people up close, but the people in the last row of the bleachers on their feet, pumping their fists in the air, and singin' along. I'd be hard pressed to name another show I've seen in past years with this kind of vibe. Sorry Joe, these guys are my all time favorites and probably always will be, but Joe shows are very close, after all my history with Joe goes back 3 1/2 years as opposed to 35 years with the kings of southern rock. That's the way I saw it 7/12/2008.
Think Sweet Home,

By the way, the skies weren't very blue due to smoke from nearby Butte Co., but then again Lynyrd Skynyrd SMOKES!!!
