I was wondering who would chime in first!  Sorry for the stray off topic...I'm done.

Re: Guitar Tone

The Marshall Mg's are quite bad amps for anything but practise bloody unreliable too, I'd concentrate on his finger technique that will pay off in the long run, also Vintage Noiseless pups are actually quite good if there good enough for Clapton you cant really say otherwise? I like my strat with noiseless pups

I knew the Clapton reference was coming sooner or later.  Why can't I say otherwise?  If they're good enough for Clapton, great.  I'm sure that's why he uses them.  I just happen not to like them based on my experience.  Much like how you dislike the Marshall MG series.  And I also don't argue that those pups are "quite good"...I just don't think they're good for what I like - which is similar to what the OP seems to be after.  I found them to be lacking in front end attack and not being very aggressive.  But like I said in a previous post, that's just my opinion...take it with a grain of salt.  And for the record, Clapton could play a tennis racquet and make it sound good...

Yes I agree, but i admit I do like the way Blackie was. But he auctioned that off and his new guitars don't have the same tone that Brownie and Blackie did. I think he should start playing Les Pauls again like in Cream. That was a magical tone, the "woman" tone.

Re: Guitar Tone

Yeah...not sure why he completely stopped playing Gibsons. Although I did see a video on youtube of him playing a 335 for I'm Torn Down (love From The Cradle, seriously). Great clip actually...let me find it.

Apparently it's from '95, which I guess is kind of a long time ago...damn.

And I mean yeah, I'd like to see a Paul in his hands again, but that's not to say Blackie didn't sound phenomenal. In particular I'm really digging The Twelfth Night...great live album. I can't get enough of After Midnight.

And that would make sense since Blackie never had noiseless pickups...those came around in the Clapton reissues which he now uses since Blackie was retired and eventually sold.  Just sayin'...

yeah I see what you mean but I have played a Strat with the vintage Noisless pickups and it did sound great (although it was played through a Fender Deluxe Reverb...hmmm...) I don't know, the Texas Specials are great pickups. Maybe i'll stick with them.

Where've you played Texas Specials? I forgot, did you say you had the SRV Signature?

Re: Guitar Tone

why dont u get a new amp a set of pick ups set u back £175 ish Fender Champ XB is about that price and its a bloody good 15w amp rhythm guitarist uses it in my band

Re: Guitar Tone

Ah. Sorry, kind of zoned out at the beginning of the thread.  I think I forgot to ask, did you say you owned a TS808 or no? I think I wanted to ask that I one point...it didn't sound like you were using any pedals.

No I only use a Vox Classic wah and Boss 65 Deluxe Reverb pedal. I was shopping around for either an octavia (preferably the Hendrix model) or a good overdrive pedal ( maybe another solution to the tone problem???)

That's what I'm leaning towards right now.

Re: Guitar Tone

Since Stevie seems to be your thing I've got to ask what would you be doing even thinking about an octavia pedal? As far as your overdrive problem either buy a TS808 and have Robert Keeley mod it or buy a modded Keeley TS808.
