Topic: Favre Drama

I was willing to tip my hat to Brett Favre when he tearfully announced his retirement. This has now turned into a soap opera, understand, I'm not a Packer fan, but an outsider looking at this with my head not my heart. I gotta give the media, namely ESPN, credit for making this front page news. I'm sure the Packer faithful will validate his decision, but to me it appears as turmoil for the team. I really don't want to see Brett on the list of guys that hung around too long. If he can't stay away from the game take a coaching or advisory position. I don't see a Hollywood ending resulting here, but crazier things have happened in the NFL (No Freakin' Logic). I was happy to see Brett go out as a champ not a chump.

Jota Doble,

Just tune in the next Sports Center on ESPN after the Sun. night ballgame. I'm sure it'll be a lead story.

I will lose all respect for Brett if he "unretires"....if you said you were done, then move on

Re: Favre Drama

Sorry Double J,

I'm watchin' Sportscenter and apparently it's yesterday's news already, at least until Favre makes his next move. I heard coach McCarthey was trying to enjoy a brief vacation when this story broke.

Re: Favre Drama

Going to see Skynyrd this weekend. I learned the same lesson years ago at the resort we're going to. When Skynyrd hits the stage everybody stands and sings along to every song. So paying $100.00 for a reserved seat is futile. We sit in the bleachers about 10-15 rows up and not only see and hear better, but also enjoy the stunning view of the lake in the background. This is pretty much exactly where we sit in this shot on their home page. www.konoctiharbor.com   It's all about learnin' the ropes.

Re: Favre Drama

I like Brett, but he's breaking folk's hearts up there. He wants to play, and he can't expect the Packers to just let him come back after they told Aaron Rodgers he's the starter. So he wants to play for another team? Trust me, as a Dallas Cowboys fan who watched Emmitt Smith, my all-time favorite player, struggle through two seasons with the Cardinals, that is the most heartbreaking thing you can watch. Come on Brett, go out at near the top of your game. Don't be like the dude in Semi-Pro who got traded for a dishwasher.

Re: Favre Drama

I'm not a packers fan but I have to say it would wrench my heart out to see a guy like that go out like this. Being the Bronco's fan that I am, I say that Elway went out perfectly. He did what he set out to do (defend the Super Bowl title) and then retired when he was done... Brett should do the same.

thats just it!

anything less than a superbowl win would be considered a failure.  so what are the chances?

Re: Favre Drama

How does one get Farve out of Favre???

Just askin'?

You Can Do Anything You Want To Do

Re: Favre Drama

It appears that Mr. Favre has the Packers management in a tough situation.

If they don't take him back, they look like idiots. If they release him and he signs with Minnesota and kills Green Bay...they look like idiots. If they trade him and he plays well, the first Aaron Rodgers interception and  Green Bay will go nuts. If they take him back they risk alienating Rodgers who is only signed through 2009.

It appears the team has issued a statement saying that if Favre wants to come in and compete for a job with Rodgers, then he is welcome but that Rodgers is currently #1 on the depth chart. If that's the case it is not conceivable that Favre wouldn't win the job back. At the very least there will be a fan revolt if Favre isn't named the starter the first time Rodgers struggles.

Sure the right thing to do would be for Favre to stay retired, as others have said, it will almost be Super Bowl or bust when he comes back.

Keep in mind he has 3 years and $39 million left on his contract, which will actually pay him almost a third of that this year. If Favre is on the opening day roster, the $13 million would be guaranteed. The only way for Green Bay to get out from under that obligation would be to release/trade him prior to opening day.

$13 million dollars is real money. Certainly he's already rich, but $13 million is enough to make many people delay retirement a year or two. I'm sure Favre would dispute money as being a reason, but normally when all is said and done you can follow the money and find the real answers.

This will probably get uglier before its all over.

Re: Favre Drama

It's Ted Thompson's job to put the best team on the field - if he feels that's Aaron fine,
then release Brett or trade him.  It's a tough decision for sure, but that's what Thompson
and McCarthy are paid to do.  Many teams won't touch Farve because of all this
contoversy - so if Brett is traded to a team he doesn't want to play for he'll retire
one more time.

Re: Favre Drama

But then you have to deal with psycho fans. How do I know they're psycho? Because that's the only game in town there. I can relate, being down here in Arkansas, where the Razorbacks are the only game in the state. They ran the football coach out after he had a pretty good run. I mean, we got Bobby Petrino, which I guess is an upgrade, but still, the fans can get crazy. They even looked into the coach's phone records to try and dig stuff up on him.

All it takes is one team to be interested.

13 million is real money.

I would say there's a competition between 4 and 12 and have Rodgers 'barely' win the starting job. Or keep #4 inactive until GB needs him wink

You're right Deez - they had hundreds of psycho's protesting outside of Lambeau Field Sat.
but Thompson can't worry about the fans - every Packer game is sold out for the rest of
time anyway - we've been on the waiting list for 29 years and will never get season tix's
in our lifetime.  Sherman spoiled Farve (his own locker room etc) and I'm guessing the
team might even be sick of the whole mess by now and they might be on Aaron's side.
