Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

I used to worry about over hyping Joe to people. Worried he wouldn't live up to their expectations. I quit worrying after awhile. He always delivered. I guess that is what I am concerned about. Recomending a band that you really like is one thing but you do lay your credability on the line if one doesn't live up to expectations.

I posted some Youtube video's of some of the bands I really like. I really like them a lot but stop short of raving about them because I realize everyone has their own individual taste. I can say because we all like our blues to rock that you probably will like The Mighty Orq and Suhler but Suhler is a young 44 so he isn't exactly the new generation we are talking about. Orq is 29 so he fits the catagory better. He like Davey is a very humble reseved guy that is very appreciative of his fans. Not as handsome as young Mr Knowles but the dude can sing with his own sytlye of playing unlike anybody I have seen. Their image needs some polishing but the guys rock.

Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

[Remember too, Davy wrote all of the songs on their album "Roll Away".]

Not all Roy, but certainly all bar one or two. Which in itself, is some achievement, to get so high in the Blues chart!

We will just have to wait patiently for them to tour over here. sulk sulk!

Anyway on to brighter things - Joe's over here on Monday - Geoff sticks thumb on nose and wiggles his fingers whilst blowing a raspberry. So there.

Of course there will be pictures and a report!

I know you love Back Door Slam and they are a wonderful group.  Saying that they are similar to Cream is a bit over the top.  There Rhythm Section is not of the caliber or musically styled as Ginger Baker or Jack Bruce.  I just see them right now as a little differently musically than Cream.  There is really no need for comparison.  They can stand on there own.

I tend to agree with you Cat, especially caliber-wise, but I think there is a comparison stylistically.....they speak to that a bit in the beginning of this vid:

And that 7 vid set from Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta is well worth divin' into.....

Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

I'm not going to go through all the posts on this thread as I'm way too lazy to do so. But, I will say this. ALL of the efforts that anybody has done on this forum to help promote BDS is GREATLY and very humbly appreciated by all three of the guys. They honestly don't feel they deserve it, but are forever grateful, and that's straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. Go ahead and try it...if you see them live, go up to any of them and mention the Joe Bonamassa forum and their eyes light up.  They also don't feel that they're good enough to share a stage yet with Joe, to which I responded to them with an epithet that can't be repeated on this forum . Are they the real deal? Yes, and they will continue to get even better with all the constant touring over the past couple of years. Will they go down as one of the greats? That remains to be seen, but they're certainly making large strides towards that direction if they continue on the path that they're on.

Congratulations go to Davy for getting recognition. Not that he hasn't already, but it's another feather in his young cap.

I can attest to that, Keith.  When I saw them here a couple of weeks ago, the skys opened up just as the show was ending.  They still came out afterwards to shake hands and sign autographs for us fools that were getting soaked.  I thought that was a good indication of their humility.....

But when Davey saw my JB t-shirt, his face literally beamed and he walked over to shake MY hand.  And stayed there talking to me, in a freakin' downpour, for at least 10 minutes while everyone else was running for cover.  I finally had to say he'd better get out of the rain before it messed with his singing for the next gig.

I attribute the humility of these Boys from the Isle of Man to their upbringing.  Clearly they have been taught that they are not the center of the universe.

That may seem trite in today's world, but in my eyes it's huge.....and quite possibly the foundation they need to stay focused on nurturing their gift.....

sniff, sniff........ me too ....... I've HEARD and SEEN it ALL and was lucky enough to be able to personally express their gratitude to Joe.  The real deal, indeed - in several respects.  It makes my heart swell - and my eyes fill.

Upbringing yes, also environment, growing up there myself I can attest to the fact that people from the IOM are more down to earth people than say main land England. Big Egos dont really go down well there smile

Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

they are by no means my favorite blues rock band going right now, but i do like them quite a bit and you are totally 100% blind if you don't think they are the genre's best shot at a band achieving mainstream success.  i say that because they are the only band i am aware of in the genre that has any sort of young fan base, and this is coming from probably the youngest member of the forum.  i'll be perfectly honest i don't think they'll get commercial success, but they have the best chance.  i wish them and all others well.

Looks that way buddy!  WOO HOO!!!

Talked to Shred last night and he told me you were gonna make it.....looking forward to meeting you and all the others that are gonna be there.....

I was gonna order 4 tickets today, so we could all sit together.....but looking at the seating chart, those G/A's on the floor look pretty good:

http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/99029/21644/

I'll still order the tickets from here and we can square up later, but I thought maybe since you've been to the HOB in Chicago you'd have an idea about seating.....if indeed all HOB's are similar.  I don't know.....

Lemme know what ya think Roy.....

Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

While driving through northern Indiana late last night, I heard mention of them on Fort Wayne's classic rock station.  Something about the station always bringing you the best of the new stuff... "and in 2008, Back Door Slam," said with MUCH emphasis.  I thought I'd hear a song by them after that advert, but no such luck.  Just more classic rock, but I got the impression that BDS is on their play rotation.

Great musicians have a language & vocabulary that transcends the usual barriers & touches us on a more primitive , basic & yet complex level....

Yeah!!

That could be a double-edged sword though, as radio stations tend to play a song to death.

Luckily for me, I don't listen to the radio.....

Here's what they did at the HOB in Chicago. They came up with something called "Gold Circle Seating". They had the same set up as Dallas with a standing area in front of the stage. So I thought I'd be looking over heads. But that was not the case. What "Gold Circle Seating" actually turned out to be was wood folding chairs that they put on the GA floor. Nancy and her hubby, Jon and his main squeeze and Dawn and I had second row. But that turned out to be first row. They considered first row the first set of chairs stage left. Then there was an aisle and the second row was actually the first row stage right of the aisle. A bit confusing.

Ya think???

I'm gonna need to put on another pot of coffee to understand that convoluted set up!!

I'll see what I can find out from the DHOB, but I think the G/A's are probably the way to go.....as long as we get there early enough.  Doors open at 7.....don't know how bad the line will be, but maybe there won't be a lot there early to see a relatively "unknown" opening act.  Wouldn't mind standing in line for an hour, though, if it meant better seats.....plus, we could spell each other in line so's the others could grab a beer or a bite somewhere.....

I was ready to go the 75 bucks/seat, but all those seats seem to be away from the stage.....higher, but not close.

I'll see what I can find out today.....but I want to get the HOB tickets today, just to play it safe.....

The tickets for the other shows will all be G/A, so we can grab them individually.  Two shows at the ACL, and one at Antone's.  Not positive about Antone's seating, but all the other shows on their calendar are G/A (BDS isn't up yet...) and the highest price I saw was $18.....

Don't waste the postage Roy.....we can square up in Dallas.....

Re: Davy Knowles in the August "Guitar Player" Magazine

Yeah, I think yer right, Roy.  No way they're going to let seats up that close go for half price.

I now have a better idea of the lay out from that link you posted, thanks.  The seating chart is a little misleading.....most of the G/A is under the balcony, and what could be considered a dance floor would be the gold circle.

Couldn't take the virtual tour on the Dallas site because QuickTime locked me up.  But I'd be willing to bet HOB anywhere are carbon copies.....

There's no mention of "gold circle" on the ticket page, and this is what came up when looking for 4 tickets:

https://www.ticketmaster.com/checkout/o … 2Cf9WR1vkA

That may time out, but they're seats 5-8 Row BB.....sounds like the second row in the second section Box Seating.  Not exactly right in front.....

Does Jaci want me to order her's too?  (Hi Jaci!!)
