Re: European soccer Championship

What a night yesterday .... it was such an exciting game - I don´t know how I managed to hold my breath for over 90 minutes lol ... The Turkish were very good and if some of their chances had worked out better, they could be the winner now. I can´t believe we made it to the final !! YEAH !
Of course there was a big party out on the streets - and considering that I live in a rather small town there were still thousands of people running round with flags screaming, endless motorcades - in short: everybody was so happy ! smile
The thing I liked the most were the very nice and fair Turkish fans, who constantly hugged us and celebrated with us - http://www.flickr.com/photos/25162871@N … 320638189/ . A little group of Turkish fans even played some Turkish music while everyone was screaming ....

I think that the Russians will win the game tonight - and I fear they could be better than us ... ah well, "second winner" is also nice, hm?! wink

We´ll know more on Sunday ...

Re: European soccer Championship

I'll be watching tonight's game with particular indecision. Both teams (can) play very attractive attacking football and both have exciting players. Since I have no real connection with either country I'll probably wind up rooting for the team that excites me the most.

Though I may just lean towards the Russians. Probably.

Re: European soccer Championship

Spain scores! I'm a "neutral", but I vote for Fernando Torres as the "best looking player". In fact, the boy's down right pretty!!! Back to the game.......        off side Cathy

Re: European soccer Championship

Wow!

What a second half performance by Spain!! Beautiful attacking football orchestrated by Fabregas, one of the classiest players in decades and still only 21. The second half especially was a joy for any neutral to watch, and in Cathy's words, the goals were all so "pretty".

Oh Cathy!  I'm with you.  And now with Villa out for Sunday, I think it's time for Torres to kick it up a notch!

Re: European soccer Championship

Re: European soccer Championship

haha dont worry.

the teams i like usally loose, just look at sweden wink

Re: European soccer Championship

After my first favourite Holland was out, I thought that Russia and Turkey would be in the final play. But again it´s the more experienced "old" football nations who made it, not the "young wild" ones.
I think the Germans will make it. Their last play with Turkey was in big parts simply horrible - but as good Germans they needed that. They go now through a slightly masochistic guilt-loaden process of confessing that they didn´t do their best, but like Phoenix they will rise from the ashes and proof all of us that they are the best, even when - better: because -  Spain is favoured as winner.

Re: European soccer Championship

Anybody who thinks they know anything about football (no cracks about West Ham please) believes that Spain has a better and more talented team. Sadly, the best and most attractive teams only rarely win major tournaments. Spain have won nothing of note since 1964 despite having numerous good and attractive teams since then. Germany on the other hand, has elevated the winning of tournaments when not the best or most attractive team to an art form.

Therefore, you can never rule out the Germans because they seem to somehow have a greater sense of team spirit and will to win than most other countries. I expect Spain to win because I think they are more 'worthy' on the basis of what both teams have shown during this tournament, but nothing would surprise me less than to see Germany win it in the end.

Re: European soccer Championship

The Spain team is special, and have a special bunch of players, which could be compared to the great teams of all time, and if there is justice in the world they will win. (If they d I will be happy as larry, got them in my office pool, and only a Germany win can stop me winning it, even then if SPain score 1 goal I will scrape the win smile )

Having said all the Hammer is right that Germany have winning down to a fine art form, so its gonna be a tight affair.

Vamos Espana!!!

Re: European soccer Championship

OMG!!! What a great game. I'm sorry my German buddys, but the best team did win!! And what a party in Spain, a country that doesn't always act united!!! Then, the goal is by Fernando the Beautiful!!  You only have to wait 4 more years for a rematch!   Cathy

Re: European soccer Championship

The wonderful witch is right, the better team won. It's also a very good point that this historic win is important for Spain, because Spanish fans are never out on both the streets of Madrid and Barcelona at the same time, as they will be tonight.

Re: European soccer Championship

Yes, the Spanish were the better team quite obviously - I´m proud that we´re "second winner" nevertheless and I´m not too sad now, because the Germans made it to the final and it was a joy to watch this Championship.

Just let me have this very little dig at the Spanish: what a lame goal for a final! big_smile
O.k., that was it with Eva´s unfairness for today wink - Viva Espana!

But look out for 2010, because my way of looking at things is:

2006 - 3rd in World Cup

2008 - 2nd in European Championship

2010 - 1st in World Cup

What do you say?! wink

Oh...no, no, no Dear Eva....Torres' goal was brilliant!  His follow-through, his drive, that SPIN! ...MAKING it happen, FINALLY, after hitting the goal post, and the missed header, and.....  Oh, he SO deserved that goal!

I say, congratulations to both Spain and Germany! When you get down to the last two teams in any competition, they both are truly the cream of the crop.

I agree!  It was a fine match, though!  And the German team never gave up!  I'm so glad I became a football fan this year!
