Re: European soccer Championship

Expect a very orange colored stadium tonight! There are apparently around 100,000 Dutch fans in Basel, 30,000 of whom have tickets for the game, while the Russians have only 4,000 tickets. The stage is set for what should be a feast of open, attacking football.

Since I'm not aware of any Russian connections here I expect you all to get behind Holland! cool

Of course they are George!! If not... not my Bonabuddies anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoping for a wonderful breathtaking game,

Re: European soccer Championship

Sorry but we have lost and I must truly say: The Russians were far better and deserved the win1

our Dutch didn't get their rythm and then it becomes difficult. They can play the best football but mentally...When they get behind , normally it's over.

But I must say the first 3 games were brilliant, best of the tournament for me!

So now EVa, Geko we support the Germans and the Rusians. Russians because their coach Guus Hiddink is Dutch and was born and raised in Varsseveld where my wife comes from, all her family still lives there. She knows him personnally and Guus father was the headmaster from her school.

So Russia or Germany for the title.

Re: European soccer Championship

Yes, saw the game yesterday (keeping my fingers crossed) - the Russians were really quick and a young and ambitious team.
I´m sad that Holland is out now, but they were the surprise if not the sensation of this Championship - I´ll never forget the game agaist Italy, that was just a joy to watch.
I think the Russians could make it to the final ... but you never know in this weird Championship wink.

Two more to go .......

Re: European soccer Championship

God, that was depressing and disappointing the other night. sad

Still, no complaints, the best team won fair and square. I now envisage a Germany - Russia final......which means that the chances of a Turkey - Spain final have just increased dramatically. big_smile

If the best footballing side were to win, it would be Russia if they could again play like they did against Holland, but consistency has been sadly lacking from this tournament so far.

Up to the Caspian Sea and the Ural mountains Russia is in Europe. If they are using any players from the other side then they are cheating smile  Lets not get started on Turkey!

My guess is Eva is dancing in the streets about now...

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: European soccer Championship

You must give some props to Turkey! They just don't give up. I can only imagine the anxiety when the camera kept getting hit by lightning! But I am glad it didn't go into overtime. Nice to still have my fingernails. Congrats to the Germans!!! Wonder who is next?    Cathy

Re: European soccer Championship

Indeed, Cathy. The Turks gave them a real game despite being decimated by injuries and suspensions and it almost looked like they would force extra time again. Wasn't it Gary Lineker who had that well known quote about football being "a simple game played by two teams of 11 where the Germans always win in the end"?

Eva’s either still out there somewhere dancing (or in recovery mode under the duvet) or she’s being extremely modest. big_smile

Very close George. Using part of your quote in google it came up with:

“Soccer is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball, and one referee who makes a slew of mistakes, and in the end Germany always wins”.

In between the outages last night it appeared they were very lucky, or was it luck? They almost always seem to pull the cat out of the bag when it matters.
