Topic: Vintage 50's Duo Sonic

my father-in-law has one of these. it is unmodified and completely original. no scratches or dings. it's been kept in the original case and still plays fine (pots have some scratchy spots, though). i'd say it's about a 9 out of 10. what do you think this thing is worth?

Re: Vintage 50's Duo Sonic

Hi

I recently saw an original 50's Duo Sonic in my local guitar shop for £700(1399 USD) but i wouldnt be sure exactly what yours would be worth.  The guitar i saw was in mint condition pots slightly scratchy as you mentioned and with its original case.  If you contact Fender customer services they may be able to help you.

Difficult to be exact on value. Anything 50's that's Fender or Gibson in original condition will be worth more to the right person......you just have to find the right person. It may not be the 'holy grail' (Strat, Tele, Les Paul) but because those are now so expensive there are collectors who are looking for less valuable guitars from that era. Does it have the original tags too?

You could contact Vintage & Rare to see what they think. Or....step in to my office and I'll get my cheque book out smile.

Re: Vintage 50's Duo Sonic

yeah, ultimately it's worth what someone will pay for it. and to some it is worth more than others. some guys go crazy for that old Fender stuff.

but really, i kind of doubt he would ever sell it anyway. he was in a country band in the 50's, so it has been a gateway to Memory Lane over the years.
