Topic: Canton Blues Fest

I know at least Barbara agrees with me that there is a different (good) feel to the downtown shows as compared to either an indoor or out in the woods venue. Pittsburgh and Hagerstown are the ones I have seen before last night in Canton. I must confess that I was never a big fan of acoustic guitar before I saw Joe play one. The crowds sure never mind some either as was apparent by their reaction last night and in the past however many shows i've seen, never mind the electric stuff. I'll let you guys elaborate on how kick a$$ the show was. I think I got the list right
Bridge To Better Days
So Many Roads
Django
Mountain Time
Another Kind Of Love
Sloe Gin
High Water Everywhere
Your Funeral And My Trial
Dont Burn Down That Bridge
If Heartaches Were Nickles
Woke Up Dreaming
Just Got Paid Today
Dazed And Confused
One Of These Days
Asking Around For You
A New Day Yesterday
Starship Trooper

Forum People I Met Up With List:

Starks and her friend Corrin-thean leather (I finally got it right Susan !!! lol)
SRV
Barbara and Tom
Melissa and Dean
Libby
Photogal

Don from Moon Twp., the dude that went to Blackhawk H.S. and also a few others that I cannot remember their real names that are not "regulars" here.

I want to thank Susan (and Joe) especially for the picture "ordeal" we went through. It was such a good time with a very memorable and cherished result. Definately worth missing most of the soundcheck for. A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND THANK YOU'S !!!

Hi Darrflo-

It was my pleasure seeing you and the other friends from the forum.  I am saddened to say that we can't make it to the B.D.S. show at Harttwood Acres.  We are going to see Joe @ Kettering, OH on Sunday.  Have a Great time on Sunday and hope to see you at the 8/22/08 YOUNGSTOWN, OH  MORLEY PAVILION  show that will be FREE!!.

Dean

PS Now that the Canton BluesFest is over, we are allowed to start promoting the show at Morley Pavilion.  Also, the radio stations had to wait until Joe played at the Canton Bluesfest to begin promoting the show.  There were not allowed to say anything and even put the date on their calendar.  I will be heading to Mill Creek Park this week to start hanging posters throughout the Park for the show.

Re: Canton Blues Fest

Good deal Dean and how about playing a round of golf for me while you are at the park. Bring your "A" game with you though. Hope you can hit a draw, you'll need it there.

Re: Canton Blues Fest

It was wonderful to see some friends among the SEVERAL THOUSAND people who came to see Joe at the Canton Blues Fest last night!  What a show, huh?!  From front & center to the very periphery of the crowd--both perspectives found their way into my viewfinder--everyone was diggin' it.  Columbus was a blast, too, and I happily anticipate the Fraze show tomorrow!

Re: Canton Blues Fest

Totally agree Darrin!! Downtown Canton was an ideal place to spend a warm sunny afternoon and a perfect evening hanging out on the "green" watching bands rock the blues.  Joe, Bogie, Carmine and Rick were burning up the stage last night with their hot performance.  Canton was rockin' like crazy with Joe and the boys in town!!!  From were I stood which was a few rows back and center from the stage the crowd seemed to be truly enjoying themselves and groovin to Joe and they boys performance.  The boys seemed energized, relaxed and were having a blast performing on stage together for the large loyal crowd of Ohio fans who came out last night to again support their favorite band.

On a fashion note I will say Joe looked great up on stage.  He is trim, looks healthy and seems to be very happy.  His "Mo Jo" was definitely working big time.  He had on a really cool western shirt, blue jeans and nice pair of black shoes.  Awesome look Joe.

I was happy to see Starks, SRV, darfflo, Don, Dean and Melissa last night and I had a chance to meet both Libby and Rhonda.  Girls it was certainly a pleasure having the opportunity to talk and hang with you a little while.

Joe, Bogie, Carmine and Rick it was, as always, absolutely wonderful to see you guys again and a thousand thank yous from me for an outstanding and memorable performance last night.  You NEVER disappoint you ALWAYS rock!!!!  I will see you in Youngstown, OH in August.  Take care, travel safely, be well and have lots of fun.........

Re: Canton Blues Fest

One of these days, boy.....I'm gonna figure out what posts go where.  Sorry, I threw this onto the CBF thread on the General Topics page.....

------------------------------------------------------

The weather was perfect, the venue was great (love that little park in the middle of town), and the show was incredible.....JB and da boys had 'em by the throat from the very first note.....seriously.....

It was great to see all my buddies from the board, and to meet some new ones.....including a lovely lady that was traveling incognito.....who shall remain nameless, of course.....

Nice seats, huh Rick??  Good thang I can type, cuz I ain't got no voice left.....

I'm not great at remembering set lists, but I think he played damn near everything you could think of, and then some.  And closing out with Starship Trooper was nothing less than a knockout punch.....

Only bad note of the evening came on the way home.  I got a ticket in the village of Amsterdam.  (No, I didn't take a wrong turn somewhere.....it was freakin' Amsterdam...)  Got slapped for doin' 37 in a 25 mph zone.....at midnight.  I guess the sonic boom from that incredible rate of speed rattled the 3 windows in town.....

Talk about a speed trap.....the speed limit went from 55 to 25 in the blink of an eye.  And, the fact that I was from out of state kinda negated the possibility of a warning.  I'm sure they figure I'm not gonna drive 2 hours back to fight the ticket.  I might though.....just on principle.  Plus, I'd rather keep the 130 bucks.....

Re: Canton Blues Fest

As a huge Joe Bonamassa fan I check in frequently to the website to read show reviews and get up to date info on the latest with Joe and the band. I am becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of music news when reading the show reviews. One out of five reviews mention the set list that the band played, but for the most part the show reviews and set lists are turning into a virtual networking site for everyone to relay messages to each other on.  I am a great believer in networking, however there is a place for networking and relaying messages and it does not belong in show reviews and set lists.

Fans who are checking this part of the forum want music news on Joe and the band and comments, which have no musical relevance, should be posted in another part of the forum or better still fans should start exchanging e-mails so you can talk about how you got lost going to the show, how your best buddy could not make the show, well you know the rest. Its important to remember the premise of this website ( which to remind some) was created to support an amazing artist in his journey to become an established artist in the Blues World.

While Joe and his band are out on the road promoting his current and upcoming albums lets not forget the hard work that is involved in becoming an established artist. If we are to support Joe and the band in their musical journey we need to keep the focus on his music. Now that the website has a new look perhaps the messages left can now be all of a musical significance, something a true blues music fan will appreciate reading.

point well taken.  My apologies.  I've removed mine

Re: Canton Blues Fest

My wife Kathy and I went to the Canton show Friday.  In fact, we got there before noon to catch the other acts and make sure we were up close and center for Joe.  And we were -- right up against the "VIP" section fence smack in front of Joe in the first row of the "free" seats, nothing to block the view.

This as my wife's third time seeing Joe and maybe my 8th or 9th (I go back to when he was saying much smaller venues and touring with Kenny and Eric, as many of you do -- first show was some years ago at The Cellar in Struthers)?  Anyway, the band was very hot on Friday.  Joe did two encores with two songs in each one.  Band was very tight.  Joe is always the showman and had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.  Weather was perfect, setting was great, show was FREE!  What could be better?

Joe and the boys arrived about 2 PM and came out of the bus often -- watched some of the other bands, talked to folk.  Always friendly, personable, everyone of them a nice person who really appreciates the fans.

Joe did some new ones compared to the last time we saw him (Palace Theater outside Pittsburgh last Fall).  Brought back some I haven't heard him do live in awhile (New Day Yesterday, for example), all fresh.  His guitar work never ceases to amaze, and it's not all hot riffs, he has a real sense of blending with the band, what sounds good, etc..

We drove 2 hours for this one, from Grove City, PA.  Really looking forward to the next one we'll see -- August 22 at Morley Pavilion in Youngstown.  (Is that right -- Morley Pavilion is going to also be FREE?)

The only downside we experienced, which happens often at these shows, is drunken guys who want to carry on loud conversations (sometimes about the music, sometimes not) whenever Joe does anything more "quiet."  I like to shout and encourage Joe too (heck, I was hoarse for 2 days after Friday's show), and I'm no tee-totaler, but there's a time to shout and a time (like when Joe says "shh" because he wants to play something soft but wants you to hear what he's playing) to shut up.  And the two ladies standing in front of my wife having a loud "let's catch up" conversation about kids and work and stuff during Joe's second encore -- blocking the view and the music so they could "chat" -- was definitely not cool.  "Lady can't you take that converstation outside?"  Not Joe's fault obviously, in fact he actively discourages that kind of thing.  But you get to hear Joe for maybe a couple hours then he's gone, is it too much to just focus on the show?

Anyway, absolutely phenomenal show, Joe!

Did you take down your pictures? sad  They were awesome!  It is so nice to be able to put names to all the faces.  You had no need to apologize.
