Topic: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Last Saturday we my friends Rudi, Johan and I wetn to the bluesfestival in Schoeppingen Germany.
It was a wonderful day, sunny and 25 degrees Celsius.
There were 5 bands, I went for Stoney Curtis in the first place.
First band on stage was Matt Walsh from Germany. very relaxed laid back blues. A nice surprise!
Second: Bradley's Circus from Holland. Never heard of them but a very good mix of all styles, the very beautiful female singer had the best voice I heard in years!!!
What was she good! Talked to her afterwards and she told me the band existed only for 2 years.
Third; Stoney Curtis band with another bassplayer, an instant.
Never saw Stoney, have his 2 albums and the Rockpalast show on DVD, the one Michael put on You Tube.
They were brilliant, great playing, great dynamics.
When they went on stage I shouted. Joe Bonamassa, Albert Cummings and Stoney Curtis: THE NEW GENERATIONS AND FUTURE OF THE BLUES!
Stoney and drummer Charles Glover did react immediately by raising their hands and the biggest smile you've ever seen.
After the show we had a very long and nice talk with Stoney and Charles, he gave me the setlist, and we made pictures and talked about the blues and Joe Bonamassa. he knew him and said he liked him very much.
I told him about Joe site and he would have a look.
He is like Joe a very very nice down to earth person and a great guitarist to, heavier, more streetblues I called it. Stoney liked that ;STREETBLUES!!

Setlist:
Angel-Coldwater-last train to Chicago-Elis-American Lady-Straighten'out (brilliant song)-Rock me- That's right-Love and money-Sometimes she-All along the watchtower.

We talked about the Rockpalast TV show from which I made a DVD and I asked if it has helped him to become more wellknown. I know that it helped Joe a lot special the DVD. Why no DVD I asked, he didn't really know. Imagine : he never saw it, only a few peces on YOU TUBE from Michael from my DVD.

He gave me his address in Burbank CA so now a send him a copy from his show he hasn't even seen !
Will do some Joe stuff too!
Very, very nice to meet both, Stoney and Charles.

Then came Danny Bryant a rather new young English bluesrocker, fat sound, Good dynamic playet, I only found his voice a bit "thin"
Give him a listen too, worth it.

The last performer was Walter Trout. He played like Walter trout, from very fast solo to very fast solo. he is a brilliant player but not toomuch difference.
He had to stop after 35 minutes because ot the thunder and lightning! It started to rain heavily so we left this very nice festival.

Will be there next year again.
Will try to put some pictures on this site if possible.

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Hey Andre,

That sure sounds good - I would have loved to be there too , but I just didn´t have the money this time (and now it´s Devon Allman in September smile). How cool that you got to talk a bit with Stoney and Charles ... and they didn´t even see a video of their own Rockpalast show!! Tsts ...
I heard that Popa Chubby cancelled the festival shortly before and that he was replaced by Walter Trout ... maybe he was afraid of you confronting him with that Joe story that came up a few month ago lol !

If you need help with putting up the pictures just call me or write a mail (I can put some of them up on my flickr account if you like).

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Sounds interesting, thanks for the review. I've heard quite a bit about Stoney Curtis recently. I think I'm going to have to track down some of his work before too long!
Like Eva said, its great that you got talking to him, it really makes your day when something like that happens!

I'm tempted to make a joke about trouts and rain, but I won't. Shame he got cut off early. I've just recently heard of Danny Bryant. He's done a few shows with Walter I believe. One of Bryant's tracks incidently is on the free CD with Classic Rock Magazine.#

I look forward to the picture link. smile

Danny Bryant is often referred to as Walter Trout´s "musical foster-son" - at least that´s what I heard about him. I believe he´s also been on tour with Walter Trout for a while...

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

hey man, awesome review.  may i make an inquiry about the setlist?  was that first song, the one labelled angel a cover of the hendrix classic?

I might keep you satisfied

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Sorry Suhl, I don't remember it anymore.

Pictures doesn't work so far, the neighbours helped but the computer got stuck after a few minutes!!
They tried Image shack? and Shutterfly. Never heard of them.

So no pictures from Stoney and Charles  and Rudi and Johan and Danny Bryant and Bradley's Circus...........

I know you all have a hard time now...but maybe later!

Stoney Curtis CD  - Acid Blues Experience
                           -Raw and real
Danny Bryant       - Black and white
                           -Live

Eva I prefer Danny Bryant above Trout, he has a more bluesrock sound, fat, darker. He sounded live tighter.
It's true they toured together .

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Just thought that you might like to know that Stoney will be in the UK shortly (currently in Germany, then UK  and Holland), you can find details on his myspace page

www.myspace.com/stoneycurtisband

Try to get out and see the man if you can, it'll be well worth the effort !

I know this is my first post and it's not JB related but as a member of the unofficial SCB appreciation society (Essex branch) I felt it was my duty........

Cheers

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Hello Andy,

I saw these dates before but they are all too far from my hometown. I have to work and I can only go in the weekends, but there are others things planned: parties, schooldisco, my wife goes away with her school on camp for a week etc.

But I agree, everybody should go and see Stoney! If you like Joe, you like Stoney no doubt!

If you want I can send you a copy from the Rockpalast show too. Just let me know and send your address. No costs for Joe fans of course!

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Andre,

Thanks you for the offer of the DVD, but I think my brother has a copy (he knows Stoney quite well).

It's shame that you can't make the SCB shows over there.  I just hope blues rock fans in the UK give the band their support.

Have a good weekend.

Me, I'm going to see the mighty Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in Cardiff, it's all part of my rock & roll lifestyle!

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

For Michael and other  Kent-based fans of SCB it looks like the Astor Theatre gig in Deal is off.

There's still two gigs in the London area and one at a blues fest in Glasgow.

Cheers.

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Hmm, I'm attending that blues festival in Glasgow on Saturday, Stoney Curtis is playing on the Sunday, maybe I should have got a ticket for two nights...
Not too late, but I don't think my Mrs will be too pleased if I disappear again!
But I'll definately consider it, and check out the myspace page when I get home.

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

You should go greenose, he's worth every penny!

He's also very nice, if you talk to him and/ or  Charles the drummer let them know the DVD and more music , pictures etc.   are going to be send around 1st of July. he wasn't home before the 4th he told me. That's why I wait till then.

Can send you a copy from the RockpalastTV show  I made a DVD fromif you like. Just let me know.

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Thanks Andre

Its not so much about the money, its family care. I am going to the festival on the Saturday and then Buddy next Thursday, so maybe another gig in that time would be too many. Funnily enough Danny Bryant is also playing Glasgow next Friday, so that could have been four gigs in a week, and a divorce! :L As I live in Edinburgh its over an hour travelling by car (and more if you want to drink!)

I'll drop you my address by PM.

cheers

Re: Stoney Curtis/Schoeppingen

Thanks Andre

Saldy I did not get across to see Stoney on Sunday, but I'll keep a look out for when he comes back. By the way I discovered one of his myspace tunes was downloadable (once accpted as a friend).
