EVA!  My brother Bob called me from Mass.  He went to see Clapton night before last and almost gushed...We just don't do that.

He said It was like watching a Pro Team take the field and just lay waste to the entire stadium.  EC has no ego.  He let Doyle and Chris just play and play and play while he stood around and grinned with his hands in his pockets like he was being vanquished AND THEN..he let everybody see that the old lion still has the fire of the gods.  He scorched the stage and the people trembled.

All the old guitar players in the crowd just wept and bowed and scraped.

Wish I had been there.  I hate him.  lol

Oh wow, that sounds like I definitely have to go!

But now I´ve got a new problem: NO ONE is coming with me, because NO ONE else is willing to pay the ticket prizes!! I´ll have to ask Florian - he´s the only Bonabuddy who lives near Munich too ... or I´ll just go alone - hmpf!

Eva,
This is the August 17th show...I'll see if anyone from the Clapton fan club is going.  If you could meet up with someone there, is it a realistic journey from your house by yourself?

Yes it is Angela - it´s only about 200 kilometers (that´s about 125 miles) by car or 1 hour by train and I have a lot of friends who live in Munich, so I wouldn´t have to drive back home at night ... maybe I can also talk one of the Munich friends into joining me smile.

Re: Should I spend ....

Eva,
After all this talk, you need to go!  So far, one 39 year old female Clapton fan is driving up from Zurich and has seen Clapton more than 25 times!!!  She is meeting her friends about noon in Munich, none of which are going to the concert, she says she is happy to meet up with you.  smile To be continued...

Re: Should I spend ....

Saw Clapton 2 years ago in Rotterdam.
It was not that expensive, (still €45 is a lot of money).
But it was worth every cent. One of the best shows I've seen.
Clapton and his band were fantastic!

Re: Should I spend ....

Hi Eva,
I just sent you an e-mail with Nadja from Zurich's contact info, she will be parking near the train station.  Let me know if you don't get the e-mail from me. smile

EC on the radio talking about the current tour.....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/walker/

Click on "Hear the whole show" on the right.
Use the "15mins" and the "5mins" buttons to skip the first part. Eric
appears at 00:21:00-00:. The chat lasted about 5 minutes. They play Motherless Children right after the chat. Pretty cool overall, hear his reaction to the storms and fans in the US.

And from the BlondeRocker
This is what Eric said at the opening of his interview with Johnny Walker in May 2005. Program was called, "Slowhand at 60"

"I was very aware, from day one, that there was a long road until I was anywhere being fully formed....so it was best to stay out of view, until I had something proper to present....I think I am probably close to that now".

I felt compelled to join to show you this video. Why anyone wouldnt want to see someone who can pull this out of the bag is beyond me, but hey we all have our own tastes. I was going to see him at Hyde Park, but the person I was going to go with's wife has just had a brain tumour removed so I put it off(she is going to be fine btw)

Here is Eric with Buddy Guy, but Eric really steals the show with his soloing, and Buddy Guy is just oozing soul/funk with his performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5rwbkHC7YU

As an aside note, I am from the Isle of Man, and went to the same school as Davy and crew from BDS, loving the support everyone here is giving them!!!! THinking about killing my bank balance to go and see them with Joe at HOB(funny as they live near me, but never met the guys as far as I know). That is going to set me back 1500 Euros at least if I go, that might help you put it into perpsective smile I have a big Manx flag that is begging for Joe B, Davy, Adam and Ross's signatures on it smile

Hey Tewker,

First: a very warm welcome to the forum!! smile
The video is amazing - and Eric´s beard and Buddy´s hair are too wink ... do you know when that video was shot?

It´s nice to have another resident of that lovely little Island here, I think BDS are really the most loved "Other Artists" Band here on the forum... I keep on telling everyone who sees the guys to remind them that there a a few European fans also - but at least we all know that "maybe they´ll return to that island someday" wink.

If you like you can introduce yourself to us a bit (in the Introductions section) - I´m sure you´re gonna get a warm welcome from everybody!

Re: Should I spend ....

The video comes from a Panorama Special(a documentry programme from the UK) in the mid 80's I think. I wish I could get the whole show, especially with the full sound of Buddy Guy on there, as apparently the video empahsises EC's sound, but the audio mix has Buddy at full blast with Eric.

Glad you liked it smile

.... 75 Euros to see Eric Clapton in Munich in August ?

I have never seen him play live, so I think it´s about time I go and see him when he´s playing so near my hometown - but 75 Euros is a lot of money for a seat where I probably won´t be able to see too much of Mr.Clapton wink.
That´s nearly the price of 3 Joe shows (front row!) ....

I´m sure someone saw him not too long ago - so I would be thankful for some advice ! smile

Eva

It's always easy to spend someone else's money, Eva.....but my advice is to go see him.....

I went to see Cream at Madison Square Garden in New York City a few years ago.  The tickets were a couple hundred a piece, the seats sucked, but I had a blast.  There's certain musicians that are a "must see", and that was one of them.  It's a memory that'll last a lifetime.....Clapton WAS God that night.....

The way I figure, you can always get more money.....but certain opportunities only come around once.....

Re: Should I spend ....

I just got 2 tickets to see him at Leeds, figured I might as well see him whilst I have some spare cash... Really looking forward to it though..

29th June - Clapton
7th July - Joe
8th July - Counting Crows

Talk about a good 2 week line up smile

Re: Should I spend ....

Eva,
Let me know if you didn't get an e-mail from Nadja today, I forwarded your e-mail to her about it not working and she got mine.  I think you may be in the company of a Concert Queen...Nadja made a trip to the states to see Eric and SW at MSG and will be seeing him in Hyde Park shortly. (5 times this year) That MSG show will be out on DVD according to a recent SW interview.

JohnTB-looks great...we're heading to a bunch of shows, although sometimes I wish they were paced better...scheduling issues... I think some Joe fans are going to start reporting about seeing a famous face or two in the crowd...:)
