And you can have a listen to Joe's version of "Cradle Rock"!
Has 13 years past since we lost Rory Gallagher great player and performer i did get the chance to see him quite a few years back when i was just 5 years old here in Belfast. (im now 35) My uncle took me as at the time he was a biker and into his blues/rock music and had a big influence in the music i now listen to. It was only my second concert and Rory made the hairs on the back of my neck stand with the sheer energy & brilliance he put into the show. A memory that will stay with me forever. The first concert i went to was Thin Lizzy by the way.
Wow Thin Lizzy and Rory Gallagher as your first two concerts, how could you ever top that!?
I was too young to appreciate him when he was alive, but he really was a fine guitarist and appears to have influenced so many guitarists from Brian May, Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Slash to Joe and Davy Knowles.
While Rory was probably most famous for his guitar driven rock tunes he also recorded some great versions of Chicago blues tunes by Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon – including What In The World, some great folky tunes, and of course wrote the mandolin played track Going To My Hometown that BDS play, and he recorded acoustic versions of songs by Blind Boy Fuller, Leadbelly and Tony Joe White. I think the best version of Cradle Rock is Rory's version on Irish Tour 1974 - I'm sure Joe would agree.
