Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I know it's already mentioned here somewhere but "Heartbreaker" by Grand Funk Railroad or even "Inside Looking out" would be cool. Honestly I think Joe has enough original material that he doesn't need to do many covers but to put his touch on those two songs would be sweet.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I did not go through 23 pages of this thread,so pardon me if someone had mentioned it before. I'd love to hear Joes rendition of the late Jeff Healey's SEE THE LIGHT.

Tell me about the car i saw parked outside your door ? Tell me what you left me waiting two or three hours for ? Tell me why when the phone rings, baby, your up and across the floor ? Please dont keep me wondering no more.....

I'm still sticking by my acoustic fantasy of Joe doing Norwegian Wood.  I can his hear voice plain as day on it.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I would like to see Joe do a Neil Young song maybe Rockin in the Free World or Cinnamon Girl.  ZZ Top Blue Jean Blues though it has been covered by Jeff Healey and as somenone has already said Good Morning Liitle Schoolgirl by Ten Years After or Fire & Water by Free. The solo Paul Kossof plays on that track is superb and Joe would do it justice.

I know Joe covers Tea For One (I'm addicted to it!), but how about Since I've Been Loving You?  I've always kinda associated those two Zep songs together and love them both, so naturally I got to wondering what a Joe rendition of SIBLY would sound like... would love to find out!  smile

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Is it just me or does anyone else think Joe should stop recording cover versions and make a album of self penned/co-written songs?

Covers are ok for a new artist looking to establish themselves, but personally I think I'd prefer some more classic Joe songs such as Mountain Time, Dirt In My Pocket, Better Days Are Coming and The River.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

OK how about these:

Funk #49 Joe Walsh/James Gang days. This should appeal the the Rocker that still lives on in Joe. He should have fun doing this one.

El Farol Santana/Supernatural - a simple melody that I think has a lot of potential for elaboration/embellishment, whatever you want to call it.

Vaseline Machine Gun Leo Kottke - on an acoustic 12 string, of course!

Joe - if you see this - when you play Art Park in August there will probably be quite a few of your Canadian fans in attendance. How about a number as a Jeff Healey tribute? Angel Eyes?  Diggit! Can't wait!

I prefer this version, recorded 10 years earlier.

That's a good one too. The studio version drags though.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Jeff Healy is dead? what a performer, i saw him open for Little Feat here in Birmingham back in the late 80's. he did sit down the entire time and that was OK, but they got him to his feet for the encore and he danced around just a little, managing to avoid cords and equipment. i did not read through all posts either, so excuse if already listed, i would like to hear Joe do "Stormy Monday" on the uber custom guitar.

Unfortunately, yes.  He passed on March 2nd (my birthday). I saw the obit in Rolling Stone a couple of months ago. Cancer again.  He was young, only 41. I'll be raising a glass to Jeff on my birthdays from now on.

His last release "Mess of Blues" is really good. He covers Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane" and Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" among others.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

There are more covers i'd like to hear him play that i could ever mention.  but i think the one i would love to hear is "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" by Allman Brothers. I think that tone he uses would be absolutely perfect for it.   "All Blues" by Miles Davis is also another cool song to cover.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Lazy by Deep Purple. GREAT rockin' blues number. With the addition of Rick, Joe & Co could rip this up...
