Topic: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

I just discovered that my 17 year old reads music blogs and he has shown me some cool things in the last 2 days, this being the prize!  With outrageous ticket prices for some of these higher end performers, this is the next best thing!

Up unitl June 8th, there is over an hour of Paul McCartney performing in Liverpool on June 1st, available for viewing. David Grohl of the Foo Fighters is a special guest on a couple of songs playing guitar and drums!

I think Paul looks exceptionally well rested, perhaps recovered from that messy divorce and also he looks very, very, very handsome IMHO and I love his jacket, reminding me of early Beatles. The original blog this link came from, the writer referred to his ex-wife Heather as...a one legged prostitute! Can you imagine that...

About 2 years ago I met another mom of a student that rowed, like my son. You spend a lot of hours Down By The River passing time waiting for your kid to race and cheering on others. I only knew her about a minute when the conversation went to music and then she told me Paul was her first love and she practiced making out on his poster in her bedroom, I think I laughed and smiled over that for a couple days...I could totally understand what she meant, even though I didn't participate in practicing on any poster! The point is...the power of music is an incredible connection and Paul is still HOT!!!!! tongue tongue tongue

This Paul concert is awesome.  Abe Laboriel Jr. is a killin' drummer, not to mention Paul, one of rock's finest bassists.

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

Love it, Angela - you think it´s possible that we have a BIT of a similar taste in music ?! wink

I´m going to Liverpool in July - and not only to see Joe but also to visit some historical "Beatles places" with my mum who is a huge Beatles fan since day one ... by the way: she´s also called Angela smile.

I´ll take some photos for you too, o.k.?!

I don´t have a listing, but some are obvious like The Cavern Club in Liverpool or the Abbey Road Studios in London ... but I´m sure there´s also some places that don´t come to your mind right away, so I´ll also do some "research" for Liverpool wink

I´m also coming to London for the RAH next year, so we can all do a great big Beatles tour together if you like smile .

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

No, I haven´t heard anything yet - maybe Cathy and George can ask Joe about it tomorrow smile.
But I´m sure that this place will be the first place where you can hear the latest news about these tickets ...

I´m looking forward to the Beatles tour - I´ll do some research smile

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

Hi Eva,

Are you saying your mom's name is Angela?  How do you spell it in German?  Its my mom, grandmother's and grandfather's mother's name...I broke the chain with my daughter, but my hubby wanted our oldest to have his name, too much of the same...I have a brother named Conrad, is that a common name in Germany and do some people spell it with a K?  He's the only one in my family that studied German as the foreign language choice in high school.

Also bizzer-since you are not going right away, one of the the Clapton/Beatle fans I've met who lives in Calif. recently returned from a wonderful London trip and saw lots of Beatles stuff.  I've been meaning to get her itinerary, I'll relay it when I get it, hopefully in time for Eva too.  Also, talk about a small world, right after I turned her on to Joe, she was visiting wine country and while driving & playing Joe's music in the car, she swore she saw Joe near one of the vineyards...when Joe posted the next time, he mentioned being in wine country touring...;)

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

Yes Angela, my mum´s name is Angela too - same spelling but different pronounciation in German smile
And Conrad (or rather Konrad) used to be a common name in Germany, but it seems to be "out of fashion", because I don´t know any young person who has that name (but my neighboor is called Konrad!).

Would be great to have some details from your friend´s Beatles Tour - I´m really excited to travel to "Beatles city" so soon ... Oh my gosh, the Joe show in Liverpool is exactly in one month! smile -> big smile on my face!

Eva

P.S.: Are you planning to come to the RAH too, Angela?!

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

Angela,

This absolutely ROCKS!!!!!!!!  I will never forget seeing him LIVE and standing at his feet.  This is way, way cool!!!!!!!!!     Now, do you think we could ever get Joe to sing Norwegian Wood?  Still one of my fantasies wink

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

Patty-glad you were able to view the show! smile Norwegian Wood is a beautiful fantasy...maybe if we both start wishing it will give it extra power...

Eva- another thing we have in common..German neighbors RIGHT NEXT DOOR!  big_smile  I won't let my mind wander to what Konrad wears when he gardens! lol

Traditional names have also fallen out of favor in the US.  When I was in grade school I hated my name, it was too different, I wanted to be a Mary Jane, Elizabeth, Catherine, Maureen...I love your name, I think it represents you well...beautiful on the inside and out!  I made a post for Carol, hopefully she'll share her trip, she had posted how wonderful a time she had on her Beatle journey and tied it in with seeing a favorite artist, Chris Rhea.

Re: Paul McCartney/Until June 8th

This is a review from A Clapton fan Timmy that was there!

"I recently arrived back across the Atlantic Ocean from my pilgrimage from the United Kingdom where I saw Sir Paul McCartney play the Liverpool Sound at Anfield Stadium on June 1, 2008.

To see Macca perform in Liverpool was one of the most powerful musical moments in my life, no pun intended. In the set that was filled with the Beatles and Wings hits that have been heard in his last several tours there were a few surprises. Including the set opener "Hippy, Hippy Shake" by Chan Romero, made famous by the Swinging Blue Jeans, which Paul had not performed since 1963 with John, George and Ringo.

The set also marked the debut of a couple of songs, one of which was a rock and roll version of "In Liverpool" which first saw the light of day in McCartney's 'Liverpool Oratorio' which marked his first foray into classical music released in 1991.

The biggest debut of the night was the first performance by any Beatle of "A Day in the Life.” Paul did the first John Lennon verse as well as his middle section of one of the most significant songs off of one of the most critically heralded albums of all-time ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.’ June 1st, interestingly also marked the forty-first anniversary of the United Kingdom release of 'Sgt. Pepper's.' Though Macca flubbed his own line "Woke up got out of bed, made the bus in seconds flat, made the bus in seconds flat" he did it without missing a beat and even put up his two fingers and looked at them and lipped out the word “twice?”

After "A Day in the Life" Paul and his touring band of the past two tours went straight into Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" with a giant peace sign on the screen behind them. It was a beautiful tribute to John and his wife Yoko Ono who was in attendance with the other 35,000 plus fans in Anfield. Paul had performed "Give Peace a Chance" before in Liverpool in a medley tribute to his song writing partner who together helped changed the world.

June 1st not only marked the anniversary of the release of 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' it also marked the fifth anniversary of McCartney's last performance in his hometown of Liverpool. Paul introduced one song by saying "Here's a song I wrote about a road that is not too far from here" and then the band false started into "Penny Lane" and then Paul said "That's okay, now you know it's live."

To hear "Let it Be" played in Liverpool with the line "When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom ‘Let it Be’" with his mother Mary buried just a few kilometres away was another powerful moment in a night full of them.

Though I myself and I am sure many others were hoping that Ringo Starr would make an appearance at Anfield with McCartney, instead we got Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Nirvana who played guitar and vocals on the Wings hit “Band on the Run” and played drums on the Beatles “Back in the U.S.S.R.” and again got behind the kit with the set closer “I Saw Her Standing There.”

Fellow Liverpudlian band the Zutons opened the show along with the Kaiser Chiefs, who both put on good sets, but the day belonged to Sir Paul McCartney, perhaps along with Bob Dylan the most significant living musician in popular music.

After the fireworks ended above Anfield Stadium my friends and I made a walk from the stadium to the city centre of Liverpool to Matthew Street where we went to the Cavern Club which was packed with others who made the same mini pilgrimage from the concert and we listened to two Liverpudlian’s play an assortment of Beatles songs. Lennon and McCartney they were not, though I could not think of a better way to end my night seeing Sir Paul McCartney in Liverpool.
