Topic: Hey - From kyle

Im a fourteen year old kid from connecticut. The reason i know about Joe is from my dad actually (he has an account on here too: thestepchild).

Anyway, a few years ago, he randomly went to one of Joe's concerts, and was amazed. He was telling me for weeks after how amazing he was. He then let me borrow one of the CD's he had bought, and I started listening to it. I had a small taste for blues before then, because any time i was in the car with him, or camping, or just sitting at his house, we would be listening to either Bluesville on his XM radio, or a multitude of CD's he had.

I didn't expect much out of the CD. The word "Blues" kind of had a bad taste in my mouth before then. As soon as the first song started playing, "You Upset Me Baby", my jaw dropped, and I cranked my stereo to the point where my mother who was 2 floors below me called my cell and told me to turn it down.

That right there was enough to inspire me to learn guitar myself. I started on my sisters acoustic (which she never played), about three months before christmas. Christmas day, my dad had a Squier Strat waiting for me.

A few months after that, my dad brought me to one of his concerts at Toad's Place, in New Haven. Now, thinking i knew what to expect, I sat eagerly on the left corner of the stage (literally within arms length of his sample speaker). The first song on the set list was Bridge to Better Days. It started with the drum beat, and then he walked on stage, and the small building went crazy. As he started playing, i realized instantly that what i was hearing far surpassed anything i had heard before. Even though it was my first concert, i still knew that this was amazing.

After a few hours, which seemed so short, he walked off stage, and we eventually left. The whole car ride back home, i was in awe.

I bought my own copies of his CD's from iTunes, and put them on my iPod. Of course, if someone ever flipped through my songs, they would ask, "who the hell is Joe Bonamassa?". Id only respond with "Listen, and tell me what you think". My friend, who is into bands like Iron Maiden, and Led Zeppelin, listened to some of his songs, and being a good guitarist himself recognized Joe as an inspiration.

The next christmas, my dad upgraded me to a Epiphone Les Paul, which he said looked just like Joe's. My birthday is also 6 days after Christmas, so as a birthday present, my dad bought us tickets to another one of his shows at the Academy of Music in Massachusetts. This show completely blew me away...no more words necessary.

I'll be honest, i am not too fond of most blues music, but Joe's music is different. I can really enjoy listening to any of his songs. They have a different feel than say, traditional blues. My dad, being a major fan of SRV got me into a lot of blues artists, but Joe stands out to me as his own genre.

Wow, thats a lot longer than i expected i'd feel like typing.

Anyway, Hi.

Mr. kuwacs, GREAT to meet you cybernetically, speaking!  You wrote an excellent and moving introduction of yourself and your integration into the blues via Joe Bonamassa's (to quote you) "own genre".   The male teen market is now where I am conducting some of my Street team efforts. I had an inersting incident just a few days ago.  A couple of guys were hanging in public, a group of 5, with 2 of them wearing Jimi Hendrix T-Shirts.  Very cool ones too.  One with hair that made me just know he was a player. Being the kind of Street Teamer who is often literally taking it on in the streets,  I engaged in conversation and of course the l first repsonse, one I often get from teen guys, was he was "into metal".  And he "liked blues". The window of opportunity was now wide open, and I had quickly written before all Joe Bonamassa albums on a note paper and siad "Check this guy out"...before the words were out of my mouth, one of the guys was grabbing the note before the guy read it and another was going for it too.  Hopefully they listen.  Said they would... keeps me thinking I should-Rock On & Keep the Faith,

Re: Hey - From kyle

Hi Kyle,  Welcome to Joe's Fabulous Forum. That was a very eloquently written introduction. I'm very happy that you, like many others, find Joe's music so inspiring.

My birthday falls five days after Xmas, admittedly a few decades before yours. But I still feel like a teenager. Great music keeps you young. Have fun here fellow Capricorn, you can learn a lot from the good folks here. Your Dad's obviously given you a good start. Good on him.

Keep practicing young fella

Re: Hey - From kyle

Hi Kyle and welcome to the forum. To quote a friend "The blues is a big house with many rooms". What will be called the blues when you turn 50 is beyond my imagination. But I do know that artists like Joe will blaze the trail.
It makes me immensely happy when young fans join. There are others here from around the world so stick around, practice, listen to your Dad and "Rock on"...   Cathy

Wow!!!  Another articulate, thoughtful young man in our midst!  Allow me to extend a very warm welcome to you, Kuwacs!!  Your first post had me smiling, laughing, nodding in familiar agreement and - well - just plain IMPRESSED, overall.

All of us here, who have had the opportunity to see Joe live, certainly understand the jaw-dropping-awe-stricken state which you spoke of  ......  and, I have sat on that left corner myself and know EXACTLY how you must have felt!!

How wonderful that you were inspired to play and that you have been so supported by your Dad.  That's GREAT!!!  Keep up the hard work!

It's also incredible that you are passing along the gift of Joe to your friends.  I'm going to include a link to Kevin "Caveman" Shirley's Diary so that you can show your friend (the Iron Maiden fan).  (Interesting timing........)  Check out the diary entry here from Sunday, June 1 -

P. S.  Two questions:

1.  What in the world did Moms do before the invention of cell phones??  LOL!!!

2.  Will you please ask your Dad if he would consider adopting me?  OR, just putting me on his Christmas list??

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-
