It's sort of a combination between Mozart and Bach...it's a Mach piece.

No, no, no...you can't point at it, you can't even LOOK at it!

Fessler claims his inspiration for fenders 64 gold sparkle came from a book called "Galaxy of Strats". I've never seen the book but I wonder if JB's gold strat is in that book?

I know Fender may have done ya wrong, but I don't get mad at my wife if her parents are crazy as bats**t.  I have only 35 guitars,(not 300!) and I go through phases where I will be a gibson, PRS, Anderson guy, even, yes, a strat guy. I revisit guitars I have'nt played in a long time and rediscover a long lost friend.   At some point that guitar meant something to you, and I'll bet it was fun to play.  Even if you don't play it on stage, don't hold it against the guitar.  Leo (and even Bill) would'nt have wanted that, they were players guys.  Even if it's late at night when no one can see, play that guitar! Dave.  PS if she's left that bad a taste in your mouth. send her to me, I'm willing to adopt!  I'm pretty sure fender is'nt interested in putting out a Dr. Dave model!

If heartaches were nickels, I'd have 35 cents!

Tom Anderson guitars are nice though ... almost too perfect!

Wonder if it has the same identifying marks as the Fender one does to Joe's.

Wherever he claims the inspiration came from, it is quite clear
that Fender is well aware of Artist recognition in the sale of Guitars

I just received the latest "Fender Frontline" in the mail

Besides all the other artists tributes Fender is doing,
we now have the following new additions

Derek Whibley Telecaster
Avril Lavigne Telecaster
Pete Wentz Precision Bass
Frank Bello Jazz Bass
Mike Dirnt Precision Bass

The only name I know is Avril Lavigne, and I guess she wields a wicked Tele...I guess .
Does she even play guitar.....anyone ?

As you say fender is well aware of artist recognition. With that said then they surely dropped the ball on the Gold Sparkle. Not sure why. Guess only marketing genius' at fender could answer that. I would think that someone from JB's camp would have called fender to express their displeasure.

Regardless,,,, IMHHO this has all gotten very petty & gone much too far.

Pop star Avril's Tele is a Squire, made affordable for the young kids, also has one pickup making it perfect for teen emo power pop.

Re: 'Tis a sad day in "Strat-land" for Strat/Joe fans!!

I haven't read all the way through this thread, so if my comment was already covered, please forgive me:

I got a heads up from my brother in law on Saturday that Musician's Friend was blowing out the "60's reverse headstock stratocaster" (black only) for $399 (regular street price was $699). This was a one day deal. Now I think they have the black at $599.

A friend of mine in Chicago area has what he calls a "voodoocaster". The one I bought is essentially the same thing, only made in Mexico.  It seems that Fender stepped on the toes of Jimi's estate administrator when they came out with the "Voodoocaster" and got served with a cease and desist order. Hence the new name.
At least that's the way I heard it so Joe is not alone with the way Fender used him.

Anyhow, that's the 5th new axe this year and it's only June. Yeeow!

Major Tom to ground control...

To me its been a sad day in strat land for more years than I care to remember. People ,understand that this statement comes from a guy whose first love is the Femder Stratocaster.
Want to buy a strat? Mexican, Japanese,U.S.A.? Highway 1, Texas Special, Whats the one with the HUMBUCKER in the bridge(give me a break). Oh, wait a second I just found $17,000.00 Let me get one of those "Lennys"(I wouldn't give you $17.00 for one).
All I'm sayin is what happened to the days when you went into a music store and picked up a strat and it WAS a strat it felt like a strat and more importantly SOUNDED like a strat. I think the SRV strat is a chunk of something that SRV would have thrown away. Me? I think I'll just play "I Got Them Stratocaster Blues Because It Seems To Me Every New Fender Stratocaster I Play Is Tryin To Be Something It Shouldn't ".

My first love was a Les Paul, so when I shell out $$ for a strat, it should REALLY sound like a strat. No humbuckers. No sounding like a wet fart. lol I have the "Texas Special" pickups, don't get me started. I think Fender should make the Eric Johnson guitar their gold standard in quality and instead of the upper echelon of their current line.

Re: 'Tis a sad day in "Strat-land" for Strat/Joe fans!!

This is the first I'm seeing this thread... just read/skimmed the whole thing.  I only have two things to say that I didn't already see mentioned:

1.  What's the sense in Fender going to all that bother to duplicate Joe's strat exactly, and then not credit him?  I mean the average person wouldn't know those particular age/wear marks from ones that were randomly made up, so where's the benefit to Fender?  Joe's name would sell more guitars, even if they had to raise their price to pay Joe.  Just doesn't make sense to me... business or moral.

2.  Regardless whether or not there are legal grounds for a lawsuit and/or whether or not Joe's and his management would decide to pursue that, WE ALL should contact Fender and tell them what we think of their little rip-off, just out of principal.

Re: 'Tis a sad day in "Strat-land" for Strat/Joe fans!!

Stratlandish...

Yep... have to agree, that there is really nothing worth buying for the money out of Fender... and hasn't been for quite awhile.  The only strats I keep in possession any more is custom stuff I built from Warmoth bodies with thin finish, custom necks with big frets crowned by Mike Lull and different pickups... fralins etc. But by then your back at over $2000.- to get there.

Even older strats need to have a bone nut installed for tone and a LOT of work to get them intonated and set up for different purposes.  Now, on the other hand, when they are... they kill.  Haven't played one, but I would venture to bet the Rory Gallager strat probably has good tone just due the fact that it doesn't have very much finish and Fender would actually be forced to put a decent piece of wood in the thing.

Have to say my favorite guitar for the buck is a 58' Custum Shop Historic/Authentic Les Paul.  Yahoo!! Wish I owned more of these babies!!

Peace-

Thankfully, a lot of tone comes from the hands...

Re: 'Tis a sad day in "Strat-land" for Strat/Joe fans!!

The SRV Lenny strat was bought by Guitar Center at auction and they commisioned the high dollar replicas, they also did the same with clapton's crossroads 335, it's not always the manufacturer that's at fault.

I was laughing with Joe about people waiting outside with strats for him to sign.  As usual Joe was gracious, being much more concerened about pleasing his fans than making a grudge public.
