If memory serves it was Jimmie what gave up his seat at Stevie's request. Jimmie's wife was with him. Stevie's girl was not.

Clapton was on another helicopter, I believe, with Buddy Guy. It's been awhile since I read Caught In The Crossfire, but I think that's what the story was. Stevie's girl Janna Lapidus was the reason he got on the chopper, he had to talk to her. Chris Layton said they had phones at the theater, but he just said he needed to get back to Chicago. And that was the difference between him getting in a limo and getting on a helicopter.
Correct...it was one of EC's roadies (I believe) who told Jimmie and Connie & Stevie there was 3 seats; one for each. But there was only one and Stevie wanted it so Jimmie said go little brother...

This is why I didn't even WANT to bring up the particulars of WHY Eva should see him NOW. I feel sick too. The losses are too tragic, too vast, and TOO many in number. I can't bear much more of this conversation - just go Little Eva and ENJOY every minute!! And Deezer, I hope you get to see him really soon yourself.
One last thing - THIS is my wish, for Eva and for you too Deezer - that you will BOTH live to take your CHILDREN to see Eric Clapton when they are GROWN. It will be about the tenth Clapton show that each of you will have seen. And, as for Eric, well...... HE will still be MIGHTY and STRONG and WELL - and you will tell your kids the story of this discussion and Eva's decision of whether or not to see her FIRST Clapton show. That's my HAPPY thought. I like it. I like THAT ending.

dawg-cool you saw Stevie twice!! Yeah, the details are fuzzy, even though I've read about it...dreadful and a terrible loss all the way around...
Back to Eva, I've been hearing there are surprises every show with changing up the setlist..hope something extra special is in store for you! This is from 5/31, in Ohio, nice intro, neat song.

It was late morning PST when sketchy details came over KFOG in SF. The first report only mentioned one of three helicopters had crashed leaving a Mich. festival site and all that was known was Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and SRV were thought to be on board. A few hours later it was reported that it was Stevie who was found in the wreckage and the others were accounted for in Chicago where they were all headed. It was a tragedy to lose SRV, but for a couple hours myself and a few co-workers thought we'd lost Eric and Robert as well. One of the painters on our job who played blues harp and I spent our lunch hour tippin' a beer lookin' across the bay and listening to Texas Flood which happened to be in my truck that day.

If we take the ticket price out of the equation, it really comes down to personal preference of whether one likes the artist or not. I don't think I would go see the FooFighters for free if I had the opportunity. I was so unimpressed with their performance on one of the music award shows about a year or so ago, Dave Grohl is a screamer, I could not understand hardly a word he sang. Maybe our good JohnB74 can enlighten me otherwise.

It was Stevie who really opened my eyes to a style of music I'd let past me for so many years, and for that I'm forever grateful. Such a tragic story.....

Im contemplating £110 to see him in hyde park... then again theres alot of other good artists there..
And angela I saw foos last nite and he is a screamer but theres so much energy in the guys gigs it makes u want to dance move jump etc, he engages the crowd and just generally puts ona good performance btw on slower songs he does sing and he has a nice voice..

That´s exactly the place where I saw Paul McCartney maybe 5 years ago - I just realized that now ... and I also payed 65 Euros to see him (you know why, Angela - he played all those Beatles songs ) and it was surely one of my most memorable concerts. Sometimes it´s just got to be the legends 
- and you´re all so right, you really never know what the future might bring.
I also thought about Stevie before he was mentioned here ... I read about the whole story in Clapton´s book just recently and I didn´t know before that Eric and Robert were also travelling in one of those helicopters - it´s all so sad... reminds you that life can be too short to wait.

Nice Johns we have here, thanks guys for the feedback ....now I've seen another side of Grohl, definitely has a nice voice and I enjoyed him as a drummer in Nirvana!! Anyone that can energize a crowd and get them up and dancing, has something going on. Maybe when he gets charged up and excited, he screams....he could fit the profile of my husband sometimes when he gets upset...:D
Eva- seeing Paul the last time was the most expensive concert I ever went to and one of the highlights of my 30 plus years of concerts ...I can remember the conversation of justifying the ticket price, we paid face value $250 each, 6th row...priceless in the scheme of things, other Paul concerts, he was just a speck on the stage, I watched a screen in a huge outdoor arena. One of my personal goals is for my kids to see the 2 remaining Beatles, starting with Ringo in 2 weeks. And now I can stop singing you a song....Should I Stay or Should I Go...:) Hope you have good weather for the show Eva and it is a memorable night!
If any of you don't own this DVD, do yourself a bif favor and buy it. My goodness, it's as good as it gets! Stevie, Chris and Tommy at a small club in Canada just tearing it up. How much would you have paid to be there? Answer: Priceless!

Yep, I have to agree with that one Deez, I sure miss Jimmie's brother too. I still pull out the The "Live at El Mocambo" DVD and just sit quiet and marvel how he could play. I believe in the interviews with Chris Layton and Tmmy Shannon they mention that this was a very special night. That they were really on and everything just fell into place. There's also some funny descriptions about Stevie in that, he was really into trying to figure things out. I think Chris said that one time in his hotel room, Stevie had taken an empty marker and put it point to point with a full marker to see if one would fill the other. I forget the term that was used by I think he called Stevie "Mr. Wizard". Makes me chuckle just thinking about it.
If any of you don't own this DVD, do yourself a bif favor and buy it. My goodness, it's as good as it gets! Stevie, Chris and Tommy at a small club in Canada just tearing it up. How much would you have paid to be there? Answer: Priceless!

They called him "Modern Man." There is also another name they had for him when he started acting goofy. Bwady. Look up a picture on Tommy's web site when Stevie's in Bwady mode, and you'll see why they called him that.
And I've never seen the Foo Fighters live, but I do love their music. You have to understand, I HATE today's screamers, but I love the Foo's. For every song that screams, they have beautiful songs like this one:

The only way to get rid of these absurd prices is not to go anymore. We discussed this about 2 years ago on this forum and as I said then:
I love their music but I'm not their sponsor, how good they may be.
We then talked about The Eagles, same story.
Saw them live 3 times, a few years ago they came back to holland and asked prices from starting 100 euro's. They didn't want to play in stadiums anymore, smaller venues Ahoy 10.000 seats but wanted the same amount of money.
I want more at my job but I don't get it so why they. Just because it's music or because they became moneymachines!
The band always says the high price is because of the promotor and the promoter says because of the band!!!!!!!!! You're not fooling me.
I can afford it but then I prefer unknown or not so famous bands who make good music.
Saturday I go to the Bluesfestival in Schoeppingen and I see - Stoney Curtis, Walter Trout,
Danny o'Bryant and 3 more bands for 20 Euro.
Even if it's Clapton!
July 4 th I see his Bluesfather John Mayall, who I think had more influence to the blues then Clapton, he wrote more, started earlier, was his teacher, sings better.
Clapton can play very well guitar but for me thats it!
I think they like him more in the USA than in Holland. Last Ahoy show wasn't even sold out, prices to high!
PS. John Mayall costs 30 Euro in a 600 venue!!!!!!!!!!and his guitarplayer Buddy Whittington is as good as Clapton, who can play but makes standard CD's, not more not less!
