Just Got Paid/Dazed and Confused

Put simply in one word: AWESOME. I was against the fence thing the entire time, got a couple up close and personal moments with Joe's Pauls during solos. One thing I did notice is the Iced Tea R9 that Joe was playing had holes and a screw dent in the finish from a removed pickguard, and the Peter Green mod was made to it as well (flipped neck pickup (and possibly inner pickup magnets) so the magnets are closer to the bridge. The only reason I bring this up is because it's not done on any of Joe's other Pauls. The JB Goldtop he was playing was effing gorgeous though. Nice round top carve, discrete aging along the binding with a little bit of checking, historically correct headstock, black back, Top Hat's for the neck pickup, reflectors for the bridge, really a beautiful guitar.

A couple times Joe just got this evil devilish look on his face while playing, it was pretty funny, like the lick he just played was too dirty for our ears : P. He ended up tossing his glasses behind him in the middle of Woke Up Dreaming.

So seriously, great show, made my weekend. I got some (TONS of) sun, and now I'm set to relax for the rest of the day. Oh and one more thing for the gear junkies, Joe was playing through two rented JCM 2000's. They didn't want to move his stuff from the studio. On the floor he had a Dunlop Wah, Tubescreamer, this gold Fuzzface, a Boss Delay, this deal to bring his signal to both JCM 2000's, and this one pedal that I didn't recognize which had 2 big knobs that you could mess with with your foot. Joe his Iced Tea R9, JB aged Goldtop, Gigliotti, and acoustic.

I'm off to soak my body in Aloe Vera.

Wow, talk about quick turnaround. Thanks for the incredilby fresh review and the details about the guitars. Maybe the unknown pedal was the Gas Pedal he's been using lately, mainly as a gain boost.

BTW, Ibuprofen can genearlly take the edge off sunburn pain...especially if you wash them down with couple of Sierra Nevada Pale Ales.

Haha yeah, I pretty much watched Joe play, got the set list, packed up my things, came home, and posted. I may be wrong but I don't think it was his Gas pedal, that one is much smaller. This has 2 big knobs that look like they were made for your feet, prolly bout an inch or inch and a half apart. Maybe Joe'll chime in here...

Haha the whole sun situation wasn't helped by the fact that I'm on Acutane, which makes my skin CRAZY sensitive. So I'm pretty much at a constant state of pink, Libby can attest to that. I figured today was my last day to relax before the week begins, so I just took off my shirt and hung out all day, but I'll end up regretting that decision...

I want to echo Danny's sentiments that Joe's performance was off the hook.  Danny, you forgot "High Water Everywhere" on your set list.  My wife and I  Joe kick off his tour at the beginning of the year in San Juan Capistrano and Santa Ana and to me this performance was more intense.  "Mountain Time" and "Woke Up Dreaming" have become my favorite live songs, while his version of "High Water Everywhere" just left me wanting more.  You know these days the word "great" gets tossed around with great ease when describing performers, songs or whatever, but I truly believe the Joe will transcend greatness for legendary status.  In my book, he is up there with the likes of Page, Clapton and Stevie Ray.  He has his own unique sound and style and is one heck of a performer.  I can't wait for the next time I get to see him.

Ah you're right. Weird...I was just copying down what the set list I got said, but yeah, he played High Water Everywhere as well. I was in Santa Ana at the beginning of the year too, unfortunately I missed the Coach House show. I actually got to have a good chat with the guy next to me hugging the gate, and Joe's got a new fan! I heard several "You've got to be kidding me..."s from behind me when Joe went into the acoustic stuff... : P

Thanks for the quick reviews you two ! Danny, you must have spent more time analyzing Joe´s "guitars, amps and gear" than actually listening lol - great description of the guitars !
I also like the setlist (although it´s too short of course), but it´s like the whole show in a nutshell...

So you both only saw Joe at the festival? No Bonnie Raitt?? No Little Feet with Coco Montoya ? Didn´t you buy tickets for the whole day - or can you only buy tickets for the single artists ?

Eva,  The tickets were for all day.  There were threee stages set up.  I'm not a big Little Feat fan, although I am a Coco Montoya fan and I've seen Bonnie Raitt in concert already.  I was there to catch acts I'd never heard of before to find out what they were al about.  Our day started out with Jimmy Thackery on the Back Porch stage.  That guy can bring it for sure.  He played a short set of 45 minutes, in which he topped it off with a Hendrix like version of the Star Spangled Banner.  Then one stage over was Anson Funderburgh.  Little bit of Blues, little bit of soul, it was all good to me.  Then we got to see Joe for the third time this year.  It just didn't get any better.

how was the tone on the jimmy thackery set-he is playing two category 5 amps and that would have been his first show with them on an outdoor stage.

Haha Eva I had a good half an hour to analyze gear before the band actually played. After Joe played I was just kind of tired. Sunburned, tired, I just wanted to head home. I had gotten up at 6 two weekend days in a row, which is something that while it was a great weekend, should never ever happen.

Hahaha it does! Especially when you're 17, gimme a break. I've learned to enjoy the nights I actually get 8 or 9 hours of sleep in!

Yeah it's weird, Joe played it but it wasn't on the set list. Oh well, I'm not complaining about an extra song!
