Sounds good. Can't wait to hear it.
Re: John Mayer to play set of blues and covers on his summer tour.
how awesome was that exit?
very cool....true blue musician right there. that guy (and his music) will be one of the very few "commercially popular" artists around at this point that will survive the tests of time...
i strongly believe my great great grandkids will be listening to his music...along with whatever may be "in vouge" at that time...
Re: John Mayer to play set of blues and covers on his summer tour.
what? no john mayer flame bait yet???
Is the JB message board getting soft? I was expecting all this nay-saying! I am impressed it's been all positive so far.
I, for one am a big fan of John Mayer - he will be playing blues tunes to an uneducated public who listens to bubble gum pop music all day. He might just get a couple converts to blues. That will be good for the industry - get some money flow and some younger blood into the blues.
I KNOW this always goes back and forth on this site, but I think JM has a valid place in music in which he tip toes on a line between pop and blues (kind of like Clapton in my opinion).

I agree with you. You can tell his quality by listening to tracks such as the live version of Gravity, which could be called a modern blues classic. I don't like everything he does but hopefully it will encourage people to explore the blues a little more.
It would be good to get him and Joe on the same bill somewhere, sometime...

Re: John Mayer to play set of blues and covers on his summer tour.
Nic,
I think that topic was just a case of beating a dead horse, yesterday's news, Mayer's a mixed bag, can play the blues, just doesn't always do it, got popular otherwise & stacked his bank account with $$$$, definitely talented and if you like his voice...voila....I'll be seeing John Mayer for the second consecutive summer. I wouldn't have bought a ticket if my daughter and her girlfriends didn't need a ride and I'm not crazy about the venue. A young girl we know ended up in the emergency room with 20 something stitches last year over a broken beer bottle. Looking forward to a different setlist! And Mayer's fan club works well for getting tickets.

No flaming the dead horse here. The sissified, bubble gum playing, twit grew up to be a blues man, thanks to Eric & BB. He's alright with me. He's a way better guitarist than most people know. AND he's come to the point where he really doesn't give a crap what people think.
Not like me who's sensitive and politically correct.

Nic, we are truly a tolerant group here. As Jeff said all our opinions have been stated before. John has many fans on here. To tell the truth I think I'm even getting a little soft and appreciating his talent more. Still haven't bought any of his music. I did see the TV show with him at Abbey Road. I thought the song I saw him do was pretty good.
I stumbled on to his forum recently and noticed they are much less tolerant of any conversations about Joe than we of John. Try this. go to www.mystupidmouth.com and search for Joe in other musicians to check out. Post something about him and see how long it takes to get mauled.

John's just got a new girlfriend, check gossip pages anywhere!

Funny thing is Jim. John knows it! A recent quote: "...is it blues? I'll leave that ...to the message boards." He's def. been getting his share and some of nic's too.

I stumbled across this on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic0FCyZU … re=related a perfect example why my generation has had a difficult time accepting John as a somthing other than a chick act. I wondered why his message board was called My Stupid Mouth.

I've heard Clapton do things like that. Change The World anyone?
For the record, I like Change The World.

I wanna be a chick act!
Somebody (guitarist) asked me one day, "I want the Funky Dr of Love to tell me...How did that goon get to be such a pimp?"
Speechless at the blues dive, was I. So I scratched my chin and said "He has a really good bass player..." the barmaid just laughed her boobs off and said awright. Everytbody else just let loose a stream of filthy invitations to commit imposible acts.

Man, don't you have any mercy? I was just having a snack. Some of it went in my mouth. Hopefully he'll clear the air with the new one coming out.

Deezer man you think that song is anything compared to anything Clapton has done? I like Change the Wold too.
It is not just that it is a pop song. It is the whole package. The Dave Mathews enunciation the strumming an acoustic. It is not just pop it is cheesy pop. Just my opinion. At least Eric sings like Eric.
The point I was making is that is what kind of artist I stereotype Mayer. That kind of song. That kind of performance. Just trying to help Nic understand why it has been a hard sell to get people like me that formed an opinion of him based on that style of music.
I love the fact that he is getting bluesy. Just hard for me to all the sudden change my opinion and jump on his blues bandwagon.
Re: John Mayer to play set of blues and covers on his summer tour.
I definitely get what you're saying. Just saying the way rhythm of the song goes, it just kinda reminds me of Clapton's song. As far as the Dave Matthews thing goes, I think he's always sounded like that, and still does a little bit. I think his singing has improved over the years though, much better now. Oh well.

I gotcha. I first read about Mayer in the very same article I first read about Joe Bonamassa....in the September 2002 issue of GuitarOne Magazine. When I downloaded tunes from him, they were "Wind Cries Mary" and "Lenny" - so I knew since then he had blues in him. But I can totally understand people's impression of him based off of record sales, radio play, and magazine covers.
