I sure hope that when Gibson rolls out Joe's signature LP they include a lower priced option for us poor working stiffs who can't cough up $5K or more for a VOS Goldtop. Maybe a (cough) Epiphone Elitist version? I could go a grand if I had to...
Joe - can't wait until the Artpark gig in August!
I just want to know why it's a goldtop. Where are the flames ??
Goldtops all look the same, gold. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's been done to death.

at least goldtops still turn heads. i guess it just depends...

Actually, this guitar does look pretty different from most goldtops I've seen. The black back and hardware give it a different look. At first I wasn't crazy about the idea of all the black, but seeing it in person, changed my mind. I love it.
Goldtops look great!
Some folks may remember a song from 1979 by Snowy White called Bird Of Paradise? (free beer to anyone who can remember the small controvery it was partially responsible for around about 1985).
Here's a clip of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBXTNAdvGKI
Snowy uses a lovely goldtop on that.....and I always liked it because of the black hardware. Well, there's a few differences, but it's still a good looking guitar.
Looking forward to the JB sig model.....wonder what it'll cost?
I always liked the burst les pauls until i played a56 goldtop w/ p-90s. thats my next guitar.

I think they're talking about $3300 or so.
So here in the uk we are looking at £2k +
Not gonna argue about teh Strat thing being ubiquitous.
I remember the Snowy White song, don't know what the controversy was, so I miss out on the beer.
there has been some stuff in teh guitar press lately about his ancient goldtop though, though I might have seen something at the LP forum too.
Black backs are usually Stingers, are they not ??

If you listen to Bird Of Paradise, its a little/ a lot (depends upon who you ask) reminscent of Dire Straits 'Brothers In Arms'.....a song which came out a few years after the Snowy white song.
Some people said it was coincidence, some said Knopfler had 'borrowed' bits of the song....but have a listen to them on youtube and see what you think.
