'Father' Of LSD Dies At 102

Author: AP   Source: CNN

Title: 'FATHER' OF LSD DIES AT 102

Albert Hofmann, father of the mind-altering drug LSD whose medical discovery grew into a notorious "problem child," died Tuesday. He was 102.

Hofmann died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland, according to Rick Doblin, president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, in a statement posted on the association's Web site.

Hofmann's hallucinogen inspired -- and arguably corrupted -- millions in the 1960's hippie generation. For decades after LSD was banned in the late 1960s, Hofmann defended his invention.

"I produced the substance as a medicine. ... It's not my fault if people abused it," he said.

I was reading about this in the news paper...he discovered it's effects by accidentally getting some on his finger....that drug was NOT fun...I saw a friends girlfriend bite off his nipple one night, and I'll leave it at that!

Conan O'Brien acknowledged Hoffman's passing by wise cracking, Hoffman's funeral will be attended by family, friends, and a giant melting spider.

Roy, the ta-ta reference is well known in the Bay Area thanks to 107.7 The Bone, whose morning show DJ's instigated Ta-Ta Tuesdays and circulated bumper stickers for the past 5 years or more to promote it. The movie Officer & A Gentleman really popularised it to as in "bodacious ta-ta's."

Re: "Father" of LSD dies

i thought the drug was very fun have seen a ton of people dose on it and have never seen anyone get violent.  i have gotten terrifeied on it myself and have seen other people get scared but it is all temporary.  by the way im not an acid freak or anything like that ive done it a few times and really believe it made me a better person.  im not saying do it every day but i truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone had at least one good trip.  i mean to say a guy bit his girlfriend is a little unfair to lsd.  the simple fact is alcohol causes more violence than every other drug combined.  and the simple fact is you have to be happy with who you are if you do it (otherwise you are going to start thinking about the worst parts, the ego protects you from that normally and this removes that from the equation entirely) and don't go in scared.  seriously i believe just about every drug outside of marijuana does far far far i cannot say far enough more harm to the world than lsd.

Re: "Father" of LSD dies

well, being from a law enforcement background, I have seen my share of bad incidents involving LSD trips.  Even saw one guy trying to saw his arm off with a hack saw (thankfully there was not a blade on it)  There is a video floating around law enforcement website that show a guy at McDonald's that was literally grabbing BOLTED down tables and hurling them at officers.  After a massive beating from the cops using batons, tazers (I think they even shot him a few times) he finally died of a massive heart attack.  The guy was like a machine.

Then, in 'hot, sandy war zones of the world'  I saw folks who had used it so much, they were quite literally in a vegetative state.

I find it amazing that so little of it can cause so much damage
