Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Bonnie has a beautiful haunting voice and plays a mean slide. She learned from Lowell George did she? Only learn from the best if possible and Mr G was one hell of a slide player, and a great singer too. He is sorely missed but the Feat are still going strong.

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Just a heads up for those who don't read every thread, see Susan's Sirius post from yesterday in general topics about Bonnie!!!

This was an especially great show for me since: it was the first time I heard Joe play Bonnie and for the insight into the first time he met her at an industry function. (which I would assume to be a Blues Foundation meeting, not sure ) Anyway, Joe mentioned that Bonnie is the one that turned him on to Charles Brown and therefore that is how he came about covering Charles Brown's song Black Night on Sloe Gin.  There is just something about Black Night from the first time I heard it...it still does it for me...just that slow moving bluesy song that delivers big time on the emotional level...its still my fav after 7 months...

So, if it wasn't for Bonnie, Joe covering Black Night may not have been...

This is from Susan's post:
3) Devil Got My Woman – Bonnie Rait (by Skip James)
http://www.dailymotion.com/cluster/musi … c?from=rss

And I made up my mind, if Joe and Bonnie were to share the stage it would be awesome to cover a Charles Brown tune, maybe even Black Night. Also, for those that haven't seen or heard Road Tested, you need to check out Never Make Your Move Too Soon when Bonnie invites Charles & Ruth Brown to accompany her on the song.  Charles on keys and vocals and Ruth on vocals...killer song...one of the highlights of the DVD/CD! It be cool to do that song also...

If not, I'll try to remember EACH moment for you......

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Hey Libby,  Just thought you would want to know that Cerritos is taking orders for tickets for Joe's March '09 show at Cerritos.  They're not assigning seats until those who subscribe to their season seats get their tickets first, but then those who have orders in will get first best available.  Joe will be opening (?) for Etta James.   My wife and I will definitely be at Doheny in May for the Sunday docket.

Those big knuckleheads told me that tickets would not be sold until their new season catalogs were sent out and then people could order thru the catalog first and then and only then would tickets be sold over the phone.  Chief Knucklehead told me that he would send me a catalog as soon as they were printed.  That was only 3-4 weeks ago.  Now, I've lost my chance to be first in line.  Jeez.  You'd think that people could get their stories straight and give you the correct information the first time, and every time.  Oh well.  Hopefully I will get decent seats anyway.

Thank you Brian, for the heads up.......I would still be waiting patiently for my Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts '08-'09 Season brochure, if not for your diligence.  YOU ROCK, they don't.  smile  /  sad

Great song Hammer, written by a different Bonnie, Bonnie Hayes. Look her up, her brothers are pretty talented too. Chris Hayes was lead guitar in Huey Lewis & The News for many years and their brother Kevin has been playing drums with Robert Cray for 20 years or so now.

George- Bonnie and Keb'Mo' do a killer version of Love Letter on the VH1 Classic Decades Rock Live, CD/DVD...I hope you have that.  I was lucky I didn't have to travel far to be there.

Re: Bonnie Raitt (again)

Relaying a Bonnie mention from the "Cup of Joe" on Monday April 21st

Theme: Tribute to Tribute Records

2nd song played

Bonnie Raitt plays Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Pride and Joy"
"Stevie was my Pride and Joy." Bonnie Raitt

Joe says this is a hard song to do and compliments Bonnie's slide playing, vocals, tuning, etc. etc.  Joe mentions that he first met Bonnie in New York City and she told him about Charles Brown.  So, if it wasn't for Bonnie, Joe says he wouldn't have covered Charles Brown's "Black Night" on Sloe Gin.

Then Joe said, "KUDOS TO BONNIE,  I'M GIVING YOU A SHOUT OUT."

"Put your hands together for the one and only Bonnie Raitt...."
