Topic: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Hi everybody,

I recently found this board and I really like it.
My name is Alex and i'm from germany. I heard JB first time in
2005 at a friends place on cd and was blown away. Have seen Joe 3 times live here
now and the last concert was amazingly great. Good to have a guitar hero from
the "now" instead of listening the old stuff that I used to.

I'm also a guitarist since 18 years and play guitar in a Bryan Adams tribute project.
www.bryan-live.de (in case somebody might be interested...but I doubt.. ;-)
Anyway, I started a side project and here we play blues/rock. On the bottom shelf
I still have some own songs that I've written many years ago. Time to make them real.

But now to my question, I ordered after a long thought a Gigliotti GT.
The problem is that you cant play it before but after hundreds of guitars
in all these years I have a good idea of the specs.
I'm now still torn about  two things. The color and the neck.
The fatback neck is 1" thick (more than 25mm). I have a CS Goldtop Les Paul
which I love to death and its neck has a thickness from around 23-24mm.
This is comfortable to play for me but I'm not sure how a even fatter neck would play?
I'm almost afraid that the fatback is too thick. Is it playing like a 50s LP neck?
So I have the super soft vee ("0.900) as option.

The color will be either the silver/trans.blue look as on the Gigliotti site or the
tobaccoburst with trans.red for the body. I know, its just a matter taste. What do you like more? ;-)

all the best
Alex

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Alex,

Welcome to the Joe Bonamassa Forum!  We're so glad that Joe has brought so much to your life and that you have been lucky enough to see him perform LIVE several times.  There are a few VERY SPECIAL forum members from Germany who will be glad to know that there is another neighbor of theirs here now.

Might I suggest that you open a thread on the Introduction pages?  That way LOTS of members will know that you've arrived, and, you may even get more responses to your questions.

Meanwhile, welcome again - enjoy yourself - we are a fun bunch!

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Hello Alex,

As Libby already said: es gibt hier ein paar einsame Deutsche, die sich immer freuen, wenn mal wieder jemand aus der Heimat vorbeischaut wink. Wo kommst du denn her?!

If you have a look at the Introductions section, you´ll see that Patrick has joined the forum too - so maybe you´ll get some answers from him?! smile
Would be cool if you tell us a little more about yourself in that section too ... a very warm welcome to the family !

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Out of the 4 colors on the website, I like the Green/Blue (seafoam?) and silver better than the blue/silver.

They mention they have over 60 possible finishing options, so I'd like to see all of the options (possibly custom colors?) before making a final decision.

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome! :-)

Eva, ich komme aus Braunschweig (Hmm, bleiben wir bei englisch..?)
I'll complete my profil with avatar as soon I have some more time.

Libby, you are right. I posted in the wrong section. I will catch up this now.
In fact I was a quiet reader of this forum since a while and found now its the right time to join in. Great place and well thought topics as far I could see...(too many nonsense forums everywhere ;-)

Ken, I have seen different colors and yes, also the seafoam green one.
But this is not my taste of color. I think i'll decide between this silver/trans blue
or the tobacco burst/trans red. Also if it would make a tonal difference to have the
metal top made from aluminium or stainless steel. Weightwise of course but soundwise?
Pat recommended the steel version to keep the twang.

all the best

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Out of those 2 colors, I vote for the tobacco.

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

If this is for somebodys interest..
After a long thought I decided for tobacco transburst (body and neck are trans. red here).
I still like the silver/blue thing...maybe for the next Gigliotti. wink
Now the wait starts. In 4 months I will dig out this thread with pics of the baby.

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

I own a silver faced blue gigliotti Gt JB model with the fat neck.  I have large hands and have never found the circumference to be a problem.  It adds to the sustain and resonance.  My wife got me this guitar for our anniversary.  If I had ordered it I might not have gone for the fat neck.  Now that I have it I would never change it.

If heartaches were nickels, I'd have 35 cents!

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

Hi Dr. Dave,

thanks for the infos. The more the better.
Now I have orered and I first have chosen the super soft vee neck.
Its a tad thinner than the fatback. (".900 instead of "1). But now i changed
to the fatback and hope it was good so. Yes I heard from
many people now the fatback neck should play very comfortable.
My hands are medium size I would say. smile
As to the color I decided now for the tobacco transburst.

I should get mine in august (regarding Pat). On 16th august we have a very
big open air gig which i'm looking forward for. Hopefully I have it then.

What can you say about the weight of your GT?
Is it with single coils? I ordered Lindy Fralins Blues.

Re: New member says HI ans question to Gigliotti owners

It's actually quite light and yes it's single coils. I have several old LP's and a couple of PRS SC's in my collection that are much heavier.  Its very well balanced and sounds amazing.  I'm presently using it through 2 top hat  amps, one with 34's the other with 84's and an fulltone tape delay.  it's simply just an amazing sound.  I've become a huge fan of Top Hat amps. great sound.  Dave
