Vince, I used to have the same opinion, because it can really drive you nuts to see talentless puppets (not speaking of Kelly here!) earn millions of dollars with the cr** they´re selling while a lot of people who make "real" music are not even dreaming about earning millions of Dollars  ... but I´ve got a question for you: How old are you? Were you already alive in that time when the "good music" was popular?

I recently read Clapton´s book about his life and there´s one chapter where he says that the music business is basically the same like, say 40 years ago - "95% rubbish and 5% music" - that´s no exact quote, but that´s what he meant. Of course the 50s/60s/70s were a better time for good music to come out, but mainly the good stuff "survived" until now ... so we never get to hear all the rubbish that might have been there wink.

And I´ve stopped to get too excited about all the stuff that´s popular or appearing in the charts - there´s still so many artist who put out absolutely great music today ... so why should we all worry about the rest?! smile

i'm going to be 23 soon...but my parents (my dad's a musician as well) were around. They passed down real music to me while I was growing up, which is probably why at 15 years old i was sitting in my room listening to BB King and Albert Collins records instead of crap-pop and gangsta rap... and also why I never ever listen to the radio. not only that, music is well documented obviously...all you have to do is open your ears...

and to say the music business is totally the same now as it was 40 years ago is...well...not quite accurate. it's not the same at all...Amhet and Jerry from the original Atlantic records were pioneers (who else could have made Led Zepplin get back together?)...they made great music with everyone from John Coltrane to Ray Charles...those 2 knew how to run a record label...the music business is not anything like it was 40 years ago...

her biography even says she went to L.A. before Idol to try to make it and nothing happend...no big shocker there...

and she only won the show with 58% of the votes...hmmm...

Looks like we´re both 22 and grew up with the same kind of parents ... only thing is that you might play the guitar just a LITTLE better than I do. lol

I didn´t want to say that the whole business is the same (I guess you know that better than I do wink) - but that the ammount of crappy music being published in that time was maybe bigger than we think it was. I´d never doubt that the time period we´re talking about wouldn´t be a better place to live in if you´re a music fan or musician ... but I think every kind of music has its time and we have to deal with living in the "pop/hiphop/rap" time. Nevertheless there´s still so much great music out there that you can just happily close your ears to all the rubbish and leave all the folks alone who want to listen to that. I only find it a little sad that there´s basically no place to go to listen to the music you like exept going to concerts ... but maybe that´s different in America?!

Let´s just be happy with what we´ve got wink

Taylor left Jive records because they wanted too much creative control over his music...more power to him for that...

clay aiken? what exactly has he done in the last 2 years besides make headlines about  coming out of the closet? maybe sing the national anthem at a baseball game or two...

ruben got in tight with gospel superstar fred hammond and is doing what he loves and frankly...what he should be doing by singing gospel music...i mean thats what he did BEFORE idol...

That proves my point. Winning American Idol does not guarantee commercial success. Daughtry is the perfect example, and he's sold more than some of the winners. It's about the talent and cultivating the songs that connect with people. That's why Taylor Hicks, a winner, hasn't done jack, while Daughtry, who didn't win, has.

Talent is talent. There are some people who could sing the telephone book and I'd listen.
Others that I wouldn't listen to no matter what they sang.
IMO, AI has had both types (although not too many of the former).
