Topic: They're a MEGA musician?!!

I was just thinking about how we ALL promote Joe and there are still so many people that don't know who he is or "just don't get it." It got me thinking about artists that are huge successes that I don't care for or I "just don't get it." Now listen I don't intend to offend anyone I'm just curious to hear if you have a musician or band that has hit it big or been around forever and it makes you say "how the hell......." The 2 that I think of are Lou Reed and Bob Dylan. I'm sorry if that's someone you like, just opening for discussion.

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

Well I knew nobody would "touch" this subject. I know we all have a band that is huge, but we don't care for. Ok lets do the opposite.......What CD is still in your rotation that you don't want anyone to know you listen to. You know, that song you crank up when in your car but too embarrassed to admit.(sorta like Chris Farley and David Spade with The Carpenters HA!!)

Some of the "hair bands" in the late 80s early 90s--the ones who didn't survive when grunge started to get popular.

I don't get Bruce Springsteen!

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself cool)

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

I got my Neil Diamond greatest hits, can listen to it all day....give me some nifty 50 music any day...got a real good oldies station here in Sac town....my only problem is with there DJs, they all sound and talk like your grandfather, or the preacher at church...someone will call in with a request and thank them with a "that would be swell"....I always feel like I got to watch my language if I'm playing it in the car with the wife aboard

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

this is easy for me....people that I think are way overrated or people that i dont understand why they are so popular are in no particualr order.....

bruce springsteen
the rolling stones
REM
bob dylan
pretty much the majority of pop radio these days and most of the last decade

i would rather have toothpicks crammed under fingernails than listen to the above mentioned artists!

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

Does no one here have any respect for the bands that laid the groundwork for everything that came after it? Sheesh....

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

YES we all have respect for the artists who laid the ground work that came after it! That's why we are JOE fans. The ones that laid the ground work are mostly old blues men that aren't here with us anymore. These bands from the last 3 or 4 decades play alot of their stuff but made it "radio friendly." Those guys and gals from the past didn't get their due and these bands are selling out arenas and stadiums. You know more power to them, they made it. But to many of us "why isn't Joe selling out a 50,000 seat stadium in an hour?" Of course we wouldn't want that because we've become accustomed to almost touching him while he plays. oh the song I crank up ......Dr feelgood by Motley Crue!  DON"T TAKE ANYTHING I POST TOO SERIOUS!!!

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

But the Stones and Dylan? Those two were huge in the development of rock and roll. How can anyone say they don't understand how those guys aren't popular? The Stones defined blues-based rock n roll before bands like Cream, Hendrix, and Zeppelin came along. Back in their day, they were considered the most dangerous rock band in the genre. They might be a bit bloated today, but back then the only band that could touch them was the Beatles. And Dylan wrote some of the most defining songs of any generation. Like A Rolling Stone? Blowin' In The Wind? If you don't like it it's one thing, but to not give respect where respect is due is just wrong in my opinion.

For the record, I love the Stones, don't particularly care for Dylan. But that doesn't mean I can't give Dylan credit for being brilliant. Same with Jeff Beck. I'm not that big of a Jeff Beck fan, but I acknowledge pure genius when I hear it. It just ain't my cup of tea.

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

I never once said I didn't respect what they have done. I also understand their place in music history. I (the key word is I) just don't understand how some of those bands are where they are and some awesome musicians are still working their butts off in relative obscurity. (OW 2 big words my head hurts!) I never said the stones, I almost understand them. For the record the few I get.... Beatles, Stones, Zep, U2, and maybe The Who. They have always been above most others. It's almost like when they say Top 10 guitarists of all time. There are 100 top 10 guitarists. You'll always leave someone out. His style is different, he's the fastest etc. It's all opinion, just like this subject. WHAT YOU DON"T LIKE JEFF.......kidding!! Have a good one.

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

Just a little something to throw into this discussion......

Last night we saw a woman named Laurie Morvan open for John Mayall.  This woman is smokin' hot.  She kicked some arse, for sure.  She told a story, about being interviewed a few years ago by the top 3 or 4 guitar magazines.  She had a GREAT time, she said, they all treated her very well.  But, when she told one of the interviewers that she hoped someday to be interviewed because she was going to be on the COVER of the magazine, she was told that THE only way a woman would EVER be on the cover would be if she were naked.

She went on to tell us that AFTER she put her clothes back on....(Ha! Ha!  She's funny, too!).......anyway, you get my point.  There are even more hurdles for some artists - invisible hurdles.  This woman has GUTS and the fire and commitment to take her where she wants to go.  I don't doubt that she will be the first woman to grace that unnamed magazine's cover.  We loved her and will support her efforts.  SHE was GREAT!

Re: They're a MEGA musician?!!

I give Dylan And Bruce (Boss) credit for something...genius songwriting.  But to me they never touched some of the stuff that came out of Chicago, Detroit or Philly.  Different times.

The Stones are old blues dogs that made it white enough for radio and greasy Americans.  Love 'em.  The Beatles are in a class of their own.

Super groups?   hmmm  They're doing it.  I'm yanking it in cyberputty if all I have is a forum to moan on about what I don't get.
