Topic: Blue Floyd

Anyone familiar with Blue Floyd?

Marc Ford on guitar and vocals
Allen Woody on guitar
Barry Oakley Jr on bass and vocals
Johnny Neel on keyboards, harp and vocals
Matt Abts on drums

Past and present members of Gov't Mule, Black Crowes, Bloodline, and the Allman Bros doing blues interpretations of Pink Floyd songs...

Here's a review from Blues on Stage from Feb 20, 2000. http://www.mnblues.com/review/bluefloyd-aw.html What a trip! Wish I could have seen this lineup performing together. Didn't know the late great Allen Woody was so adept with 6 strings...he was an outstanding bassist.

Re: Blue Floyd

Never heard of the band but all the members are familiar. I would love to hear this stuff as it combines my two favourites...Pink Floyd and the blues. Any information regarding cd's live shows on disc etc would be greatly appreciated. big_smile

Re: Blue Floyd

If it's early Floyd, then it has to be psychedelic....hope it's not the Wall-oriented!!....yuukkkkkkkkk!! sad

Here is a link to shows that are available at etree. I have grabbed a few and they are good.

Re: Blue Floyd

I have seen Blue Floyd in Hartford, CT They played there last year and the band consisted of Berry Oakley Jr on Bass and Vocals, Matt Abts on Drums, Jeff Pevar on guitar and Audley Freed on guitar.  I had never seen Audley live before and really dug his stuff w/ Cry of Love.  Jeff Pevar is from Simsbury, CT and is one HELL of a diverse axe player.  The show was good.  Kind of drawn out in places, but worth checking out.  I don't know if they are still doing anything or not....it seems like a band that morphs members thru the years.  I'm not sure if they have any discs out....my guess would be they don't.

If you get the chance to see Jeff Pevar....do it.  He is unreal and it's a fun night of incredibly tight music

Re: Blue Floyd

Thanks Soitslikethis, I've got three of the shows downloading as we "speak" I'll just have to get hold of some software to convert the FLAC files so I can burn them now. I have one of my buddies looking into it. He owes me as I introduced him to Joe and Gov't Mule. big_smile:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Batmite, I recommend dbpowerAMP , it is really easy to use and works perfect.
When I first downloaded it there was supposed to be a 30 day free trial, I was going to purchase it after the 30 days were up but I didn't have to, it just kept working, how's that for a deal? LOL.

Re: Blue Floyd

Batmite:  I second the recommendation for DBPoweramp....I used FLAC Frontend for a while and had lots of problems (though it MAY have been my dying PC) but DBP is a very easy Windows-based format and works like a charm.  SoItsLikeThis...the only feature that doesn't seem to work for me using the free "trial" is encoding to MP3 for which you have to buy a license, and I have other programs that do that job fine, so no worries.

I'd heard of Blue Floyd when I first started getting into Gov't Mule (Matt Abts main band) but never really bothered to track down any of their music...I'll look on the torrent sites and see what I can find.

Carl,

I use FLAC Frontend and within a matter of a couple of minutes I have a whole show converted. Granted I have only downloaded 3 shows from dime...but it is one of the few software programs that has not given me any problems! lol

Re: Blue Floyd

It may have just been my computer acting up, but because of the DOS-like interface, I just find DBPoweramp cooler and easier to use.  If FLAC Frontend works for ya...good on ya!

Just FYI, I have almost 500 GB of shows I've downloaded off of Dime, Etree and other sites....I think I have a problem :-/

Re: Blue Floyd

Wanted to give this post a bump up, as Blue Floyd have last month released their official debut album 'Begins', and it's fantastic. I'm no fan of tribute albums, but this one transcends that genre and then some.

DISC 1:
01. HAL 9000 Intro - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
02. Have A Cigar
03. Fearless
04. Interstellar Overdrive - Wish You Were Here
05. Drums
06. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
07. Hey You - Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2
DISC 2:
01. In The Flesh - Sheep
02. Money
03. Us & Them - Jam
04. Young Lust
05. Beatjam - Come Together
06. Beatjam - Taxman

Use dbPoweramp to convert,it's the best and it is free.

I concur....piece of cake.  Also, Nero will now burn directly from FLAC and you can get a plug-in for WinAmp to listen without converting also.

Good luck.

P.S.  Is Matt Abts from Gov't Mule still the drummer?

Re: Blue Floyd

Matt is still Govt Mule's drummer.

Blue Floyd is really good. If you love PF music, you'll love their show. If you don't, well, it'll be a long night for ya!!

They are taking it more seriously than they did in the past (IMHO) and I expect their shows to get even better.

Berry, Matt and Audley are really great, top notch. I haven't checked to see if they are going to tour or are touring but with Govt Mule cutting back a little this year and ABB tour on hold, hopefully these guys will be able to pull off a decent tour sched.

Just helping to spread the word about going to see GOOD bands and GOOD live music as often as possible!!!

Re: Blue Floyd

Does anybody know whether the album just released by these guys is a studio album? I have heard a few of their torrented shows , but never anything done in the studio.
