Topic: so, it's like that...

This is the one CD of Joe's I don't have.  What can you guys tell me about it?  How does it compare to the other CDs?  It's Joe, so how can it not be good?  LOL.  But I just wanted to know what all yinz thought about it, what your opinions of it were.  Thanks so much!

Re: so, it's like that...

It's a must have!

I really dig the Wah on No Slack, Unbroken is one of my favorite Joe Songs. So, It's Like That, has a great SRV style shuffle going and Pain And Sorrow is 10 minutes of Joe getting down. The whole album Rocks!

Re: so, it's like that...

Joe's most mainstream record. More hard rock-type songs (Lie #1, My Mistake) and more pop-oriented songs (Unbroken, No Slack). Takin The Hit's on there, Pain And Sorrow is a great Hendrix-inspired song, So It's Like That is actually one of my favorite blues songs that Joe's done. Mountain Time is on there as well in its original version, not the live version we've come to know and love. Overall, it's a good one, but just different from anything else he's done.

Re: so, it's like that...

From the songs, to the music, to the lyrics, to the production/engineering/mixing and overall sound/feel, to the bass lines and the somewhat more agressive and harder edged vocal style, I think it's my favorite JB record. Sure they're all great, but I keep coming back to this one. Add in the bonus DVD of ANDY Live (if you can still find a copy with the DVD included) and it's a no-brainer!

Re: so, it's like that...

"SILT" is my favorite as well. I like Joe's heavier stuff smile My all time favorite songs are on there: "My Mistake", "Takin' the Hit" and "Pain and Sorrow". You may have heard Joe is releasing an acoustic album someday. Well, I'm waiting for another "SILT." Well, one can dream smile

Re: so, it's like that...

I don't like doing favorites, but I'd be lying to myself if I didn't admit that for me "So It's Like That" represents the cream that keeps rising to the top.  Hubby feels the same way with ANDY hovering neck to neck.  I like everything about it and love every song, it made it to my top 5 CD's of all time, one representation of newer music grouped w/the classics.

Personally, I never understood the pop description and would love to hear Lie#1, My Mistake or Sick In Love or any song from this album not done live yet, at any point in my lifetime! Talk about lyrics, ladies, can you imagine any man you love writing "Sick In Love" about you??? LOVE THAT SONG!!!! (always grateful to Tara for the live version, may be the closest I ever get)

Banderchick-It's a must have in your collection!!!

Hi Angela, your right!  I have only come across one live recording of "Sick in Love" and one for "Current Situation" (my fav)

Banderchick...I recently found a SILT with the ANDY DVD.  So, they are still out there.  Bonus to you if you find it!

oh yeah how could I forget about pain and sorrow?  Amazing tune

Re: so, it's like that...

Great album, definitely more rock than Blues. One other thing that makes this a bit different from Joe's other albums is (if I remember correctly) that Joe wrote every song on the album, except one: Unbroken.
I would guess the other albums have about a 50/50 split of original/covers.

Buy it. It rocks.

At the above place here on Joe's website, you can hear a little bit of So, It's Like That.  If you only have time to listen to one of the samples initially, I'd recommend that No Slack be first.  Unbroken, No Slack, and Waiting for Me aren't entirely representative of all the other songs on the CD, though; there are songs more bluesy & songs that rock harder.  The common thread among all of them, as Stu said, is the more prominent vocals, which is a primo element.  This was the first CD of Joe's that I bought, mainly 'cause the first time I saw him he was touring in support of it, and loved it wholeheartedly.  Still do!

Re: so, it's like that...

To be honest, when I first heard SILT, I thought it to be a good, albeit not great album, in comparison to ANDY. However, having said that, it QUICKLY caught my attention, and is now, like a lot of posters have already commented on, it's probably the one that I put on the most. From start to finish it's great. From the production, the musicianship and the compositions(which Joe either wrote or co-wrote 12 of the 13 tracks) it's uniformly excellent. It's also the album that I use to introduce Joe to people who aren't as into the blues as they are into rock guitar. Every one I've played it to has instantly become a fan. Then I put on the DVD, which delivers the desired 'knock out' punch, leaving them stunned and open mouthed. wink So, it's the perfect package to me, the limited edition CD/DVD. Scary though, as amazing as it is, that Joe has progressed considerably in the 4 years since this was originally released.

Simply stated........... If you don't have this CD and DVD.......... you don't have the shtuff !

Re: so, it's like that...

If you find an old copy (like I did) it will have a great DVD included.  Look on the upper left hand corner of the CD jewel case for the words "2 CD" to find this added treasure.

Re: so, it's like that...

I love this CD...I'm listening to it right now.  This was my first JB CD and is still my favorite.  Funny thing was that I bought it for the DVD, and was so enthralled with the live performance, that I didn't even listen to the CD for quite a while...what a pleasant surprise when I finally did!
