Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

C'mon Deez, lighten up that's the beauty of livin' in the U S of A, the whole freedom of speech thing. We all have opinions and if you really give a hoot you express them. For the most part it's a learning experience. I'm pretty sure I've heard you're much younger than myself, but about the time I hit 40 I figured out I didn't know everything contrary to what I thought since about my late teens. Like my Pops always said, opinions are like A**holes everybodies got one. LOL.

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

I'm just trying to figure out why people have the opinions that they have. It's one thing to have an opinion. It's another thing to have an opinion and have a good reason for it. Remember, I've always dug a good debate. It just seems like today there's a bunch happening. smile People say she doesn't deserve success, well why? Let's hear it. Ain't nothing wrong with a discussion as long as it's civil.

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

Deezer. I've been guilty of making up my mind about whether I like an artist based on image alone. Mariah Carrey is one. I don't know how she was discovered however it was I just got a bad taste in my mouth and would never buy or admit to anyone I even listened to one of her songs.

I started watching Idol the first season. Only a couple of seasons I didn't pay much attention to. Kelly showed she had talent then and still does. I still can't get over the Justin and Kelly movie to ever go buy anything she has done since.

To me Idol is just a form of entertainment for that moment. Not looking there to find a new artist to support.
Idol did give her a chance at stardom but it is stardom tainted by the process.

The problem is Idol is probably the newest frontier for a major label to break artists. This formula has worked for them. Kelly benefited as well as Carrie and even Clay. I don't see anything wrong with it just not something I'm going to put on my I-pod.

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

ok...i'm glad i saw this thread. i've watched AI since season one...and anyone who really watched that season closely knows that Tamyra Gray should have won that season hands down and it was a travesty that she was eliminated when she was...she outsang Kelly Clarkson every single week...Justin Guarini was, technically speaking, a better singer than Kelly...

so why did Kelly Clarkson win? I honestly can't answer that. People voted for her for some reason or another...but regardless, she's a POP singer...for the most part a synthetic, fabricated style of music no matter how you look at it...will she ever has as much soul as say Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston? never...but will she sell millions of records to tween girls all over the world...probably...this is the era of music we live in today people. It's changed...and not for the better.

I godda say that I am still a fan of Fantasia Barrino though...that girl had an original sound with truck loads of soul behind it...

Soul is subjective. It's not something that can be measured. I've known many a blues fan that said that Joe had no soul.

well i guess with that being said...i could get away with saying i think kelly clarkson has none...

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

That's a lot better than trying to present the "a has more soul than b" as a fact.

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

although i could prove the point by comparing her to someone like Stevie Wonder...who in any circumstance would just put her to shame...

soul, i believe, is when you can tell that someone is putting everything that they have into their music and not faking it...it seems to me like everytime i watched kelly perform, she was faking it and not being real about it...i don't know how to explain it...its just that feeling you get when someone comes across as not being true to themselves...

but that's just me...

Exactly. It's all opinion on statements like that. I've known some people who've been moved by people like Kelly Clarkson. And it's really hard to compare anybody to a guy like Stevie Wonder or Aretha Franklin, they're legends. It's like saying, "You know what, Ray Allen is a great player, but he's not near as good a shooter as Larry Bird was." Legends are untouchable, that's the point. And usually, they redefined their medium. Nobody did what Stevie Wonder did before Stevie Wonder did it. Nobody did it like Aretha did it before Aretha. We've now reached the point in American music where it's getting harder and harder to redefine something, because it's almost like we've reached the end of the line as far as that goes. All you can do is do what you like and do it the best you can, and if you get lucky, you'll come across something new.

And how do we define giving it your all? Is it making a scrunched-up face, jumping up and down? Because if that's the case, then I guess players like Derek Trucks phone it in. I guess guys like Jimmie Vaughan just phone it in.

For those interested, I did find a very nice video of Kelly Clarkson and Jeff Beck playing together.

actually i agree...

it's so hard to come up with anything original these days because someone's probably already tinkered with the idea that you think you just came up with on your own...

you can tell Derek and Jimmie give it their all because you can HEAR it in their music...I don't hear that when I listen to Kelly Clarkson sing...just like in that video you posted...Jeff literally blew her off the stage with just a couple of notes...she didn't deserve to be up there with him...that to me felt like she had a hard time keeping up...

p.s. they shoulda let jeff play more...

p.p.s her voice really goes flat in those big notes towards the end...

p.p.p.s REALLY flat...

And again, that's where it's just opinion. I know many people who would disagree with you. Doesn't make you wrong, or them wrong. Just differing opinion.

yes...i believe there are a lot of young teenagers out there that would probably hate me for thinking the way I do...but alot of people in our parents' generation would probably agree with me...in fact alot of them do agree with me...and thats cool. I'm just glad there are people out there working to keep the root of all western american music alive...the blues. thats what it all comes down to...if there was never the blues, we'd have nothing else we hear today...

i chalk it up to the horrible slump the music industry is in...they don't make music like they did 40 years ago anymore....and its a shame.

Re: Kelly Clarkson annoyed by leaked tracks

To Kelly's credit, from what I've heard, she knows her blues. She apparently is very well versed in roots music. Not surprised though, her being from Texas.

I honestly believe with my heart of hearts that if she had not been on American Idol and just gotten a deal and attained the success she's had, she wouldn't get half the crap she gets now.
