Topic: Jimmy Thackery

Went to see Jimmy Thackery last weekend. It's been a few years since I enjoyed one of his shows. I wasn't disappointed! This dude jams!!! I stood up front the etire show diggin the sound of his rig, a Category 5 Andrew and a Typhoon Joe. Whoa!! I have heard so much about these amps and this was the fist time I have heard them live. And with Jimmy jammin thru them it was an experience. (NPI) Would love a set just like them. To freakin die for sound!!! Of course Jimmy can make noise through a tin can sound sweet. ... Yea I'm jealous.

Thank You JT for a killer show. I have no idea why folks left. I stayed until the morning light.

Would the dude from Cat5 email me por favor.

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Jimmy took a quick break and I think the masses thought he was done. Bull! Those of us who stayed (and knew better) were in for a nights treat!!!!!

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Jimmy was one of the great surprises on the Blues Cruise. Always like him but lost touch with him after "Whiskey Store" with Tab Benoit. He kicked butt and took names. He jammed til sunrise. He is definitely still full speed. Nice, "cause he ain"t no spring chicken! Cathy

Re: Jimmy Thackery

I've never seem Jimmy live, but I dig his best of collection "The Essential Jimmy Thackery."  That hard driving sound of Detroit Iron gets me every time.

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Jimmy is a sensational guitarist! I've seen him a couple times.

He's got incredible tone. Never overplays. Just a real joy to listen to.

Very clever songwriter, too.

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Happily, he is on the line up (with JOE, etc.) for the Doheny Blues Festival, which we will attend in mid-May.  Looking SO FORWARD TO THOSE FABULOUS DAYS!!!  Woooohoooo!

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Jimmy is playing at the Berlin, Ct Blues Fest this June.  Also on the bill is Tinsley Ellis.  I am looking forward to both 'cause I've never seen either.

Glad to hear I won't be disappointed

Re: Jimmy Thackery

Thackery is one of my favorite ever.  He and the Nighthawks brought Stevie to the East Coast for the first time..

Re: Jimmy Thackery

MikeT:  You'll probably really enjoy Tinsley, he puts on a great show...I've seen him several times and he can do it all....sing, play lead, rhythm, slide, acoustic.  You'll get to see them all if you're really lucky.

I "borrowed" his version of "Early In The Morning" for blues jams....it works.
