Reggae (Page 2 of 3)

I really do dig reggae, and reggae-influenced/crossover music, although I don't own too much of it and can't name too many artists besides the Marleys and Tosh.  Last Nov when I saw Sam Bush with JB, he did a bluegrass-reggae number (on a mandolin?) that was pretty wild.

Speaking of reggae-influenced music, is anyone else here into Sublime?  Now there's a unique-sounding band who could mix up lots of different genres of music (reggae/ska included) and somehow make it work.  I only own one of their greatest hits CDs (Millenium Collection?) but I love every song on it, in fact it's one of my favorite CDs.

And how about Dread Zeppelin?  For anyone who isn't familiar, think Zep music played in a reggae style with an Elvis inpersonator on vocals, lol.  I know they're kind of a joke band, but they're actually very good at what they do and I really enjoy them... they rock and they groove and they're fun, all at the same time.  And they guys from Zep approve too... I remember an old interview with Page where he said something like, "Finally, somebody got it right!" and supposedly they're Plant's favorite Zep tribute band.  I understand they're still around and now cover much more than Zeppelin, but I'm not familiar with any of that, as I only have their first two CDs from the early 90s.

Ok, back on the topic of reggae...

I have a friend who is a master show taper, and I just posted a link to his MP3 site in another thread, which reminded me I should post one here too.  He often records reggae artist George Wesley, who plays in his general area a lot... you can listen to his recordings here... one of the George Wesley shows should play automatically... good stuff...

There are a wide variety of other shows there too... go ahead and explore... his recordings are always top quality, and most are available for lossless download on either bt.etree or dimeadozen.  If anyone sees anything they want, let me know and I can probably get you a direct link easily enough.

Good grief! More than 18 months since this topic was 'live'

Bill S. posted a reggae link on FB last night, to which I responded by saying that I'd start a topic here today - but then thought, 'hey, didn't we already have a reggae topic?'. Yup, we did, though a few of the links I tried have since been pulled from youtube.

So, welcome back Cathy, Bill S, Steve A, Andre and Jdawg. I'm sure there must be a number of new members in the last 18 months who share our 'secret' passion, so that we can hopefully breathe a little life into this topic.
